Marriott Nets Two in Woking Comeback Saturday, 16th Nov 2013 17:02 Striker Jack Marriott netted twice as his loan side Woking came from two goals behind to beat Hyde 3-2 at the Kingfield Stadium this afternoon.
Marriott, who scored one and created one on his debut as the Cards beat Dartford 3-0 on Tuesday, made it 2-1 in the 40th minute then, after ex-Cambridge man Scott Rendell had equalised, added the third on 74.
The 19-year-old was replaced in the 88th minute and as on Tuesday received a standing ovation from the home fans. There's a post-match interview with Marriott on the Woking official website here.
Elsewhere, right-back Elliott Hewitt made his debut for his loan club Gillingham as they beat Sheffield United 2-1 at Bramall Lane and impressed Gills manager Peter Taylor: "Hewitt looks like the real deal."
The 19-year-old played the full 90 minutes and picked up a second-half booking for a foul.
Young left-back David October, 18, played the full 90 minutes as Histon were defeated 3-0 at Guiseley in the FA Trophy third qualifying round.
Meanwhile, academy first-year scholar Jonny Smith is likely to be in action for Northern Ireland’s U17s against Luxembourg in the European Championships mini-tournament they are hosting at Solitude in Belfast this evening (KO 7pm).
Smith came on as a sub in the Northern Irish youngsters’ 1-0 defeat to Latvia in their opening game on Thursday.

Went to see Jack play yesterday - he was by some distance the most effective player on show - was man of the match (he has been that both times he has played for Woking) and even had the small crowd singing "we have jack Marriott, we have jack marriott" Impressions - he is usefully quick - but doesn't blast past players - the standout thing was just how often he was involved - he probably had over 10 chances and scored 2 - intelligent use of the ball (often passing to better placed player), seems genuinely 2 footed, and plays off the defenders making intelligent runs into space. He did seem totally knackered after 60 minutes - so not sure about his stamina yet - and he doesn't seem great in the air - but completely bossed the show at this level. Talking to other woking fans - they totally love him - and rate him after 2 games as one of their best ever players ! If he can half as effective at our level we have a player here

Hewitt looked very comfortable and was rarely troubled by the lacklustre Sheff Utd forwards. A decent debut.

Would like to see how Marriott gets on in league football rather than non-league. Two goals against a team who have got 3 points from 20 league matches is all well and good, but could he do it in league 1? Needs to be loaned out to a league club, do well there and then offered a new deal. He may be the next Jordan Rhodes, but lets not get carried away just yet because there was a lot of hype surrounding Dean Bowditch when he first came on the scene, and where is he now?

What an oddball bunch of fans those woking lot are. Cheering their team on even though they're 2-0 down, what a strange concept! ;) Well done Jack keep it up

Thanks for posting the video Phil. Also listened to the interview. Jack seems to be enjoying the experience, is learning about the significance of winning games (versus the developmental objective of U21 games) and is exposed to the physical side of the game. This is all good for him at this stage.

This lad looks good. He is natural & reminds me of a young Alan Brazil. Its a good job we dont have Keane to of load him for peanuts & waste the money on some foreigner

Maybe a good idea to let him stay out on loan for the rest of the season if this form carries on..he'll be all the better for it next season. Keep it up Jack.

I think the crowd are singing "we've got Jack Marriott" which says it all. He really stands out as a class player lets hope he continues to shine at higher levels. Great performance.

He's got to be loving this, he will come back full of confidence and I suspect he'll get a chance pretty soon afterwards. As for the level he's playing at, it looked pretty reasonable from, what is admittedly, the highlights. BBC website stats said Woking had 6 shots with 3 on target, I think Marriott alone had more than that in the 10 mins on youtube.

Young Jack should be here at ITFC showing the lazy lack luster over paid strikers how the game should be played. Yes he's a kid but if you are good enough you are old enough. Same goes for Elliot Hewitt both of them should be playing for us.

carsey - Murphy, Nouble and Taylor all scored at Blackpool, be a bit harsh to say the least to leave any of them out of the squad at the minute wouldnt it ? And you cant possibly mean McGoldrick?
carsey added 12:46 - Nov 18
Agreed it may be a bit harsh but Nouble hasn't done much else all season and neither Murphy nor Taylor seem particularly dynamic. Problem is I am so old I can remember being in Europe every season and the kind of players we had then playing for the club and very few of the current crop look up to the task. Whatever else I would like to see Marriott and Hewitt given a proper opportunity here.

Great - the lad's doing well at Woking, but I would be concerned if he wasn't! This isnt a Rhodes situation as Marriott is being given the chance to show his potential by going out on loan and doing the buisness. MM is not just relying on what he has seen in training like RK did with Rhodes. Just becuase he is banging in the goals doesnt mean he should be given an immediate call back! Cambridge Utd have a young guy on loan from Palace called Appiah who has fired in 8 goals so far this season and scored about 30 Goals for Margate last season. Palace are not clambering to get him back. Whilst these guys are doing well on loan and enjoying themselves there is no argument to be had. Are people forgetting we had Townsend on loan not that long ago and now he is playing regularly for Spurs and England!!!! A good move by MM in my opnion. Glad we have a gaffer that knows how to manage people and the squad properly.

GavTWTD Love it! Sums it up at Ipswich these days really. We have some amount of moaners and groaners who don't appreciate the true enjoyment of following your team through thick and thin, cheering them on, willing them on to grind out results, and it doesn't matter what league you are in ultimately. Because not everything depends on us getting to the Prem League. God knows we've been away from it long enough now that we shouldn't have some unreal expectation that we ought to be there. I'm not even from from Ipswich, but I love the club and all of its traditions, all of its strengths and weaknesses. Maybe there are some from the town who take it for granted, I hope not, but its a wonderful club and it makes me happy even thinking about it :-) IPSWICH TILL I DIE
