Edwards Interesting Wolves
Monday, 6th Jan 2014 12:42

Town skipper Carlos Edwards is reportedly a loan target of League One title challengers Wolves.

The 35-year-old, who previously spent time on loan at Molineux in the 2008/09 season when a Sunderland player, made only his eighth start of the campaign in Saturday’s 1-1 FA Cup draw with Preston.

The Trinidad and Tobago international is out of contract at the end of the season and given his lack of involvement seems unlikely to be offered new terms.

Edwards joined the club in the summer of 2009 when the Blues, then managed by his former Black Cats boss Roy Keane, paid the Wearsiders a fee of £1.35 million.

If we let him go we have to call Hewitt back

Carlos Edwards has served the Town really well and it is always sad when an era comes to an end .. but as a cover player these days (and seemingly little match-winning spark when on from the bench) it may be better FOR HIM to go and get games - and certainly if Stearman could come the other way that replaces the Right Back cover with a natural and proven right back !

This would be good business all round if it happens - even though I recognise that there is no mention of Stearman in the actual news post !!

Exactly Raymondovic, he is our longest serving player and has always been a great ambassador for the club. His level of fitness at his age is incredible, but this guy has also survived the Keane and Jewell eras unscathed. That itself is an achievement.

Of all of our players, he at least deserves a little bit of respect from us.

He has always presented himself in such a good manner and despite not being the most gifted player in the squad has always been 100% committed to the cause. Also giving us a few quality goals over the years, Sheffield Wednesday away and Derby away spring to mind. Been a brilliant servant of the club but it is time for both parties to move on.

Agreed - he's been a good servant. Don't think we ever got the best out of him, especially playing him at RB. He's good back up, especially with Anderson yet to shine - but we should let him go. Probably a relatively high earner too. Should help oil the wheels of Stearman deal

He'd need a lift of course.... suggest dropping him off, on the way back from Preston away.

Joking apart, I'm sure he'd be great for Wolves, even at the age of 34 he is in great shape, good luck Carlos :)

top lad, always given his all. I wonder if he will fancy going on loan at his stage of his career? Doubt it.

one of the most natural players on the ball Town have had in the past five or six years. always looked very cool under pressure

No point in this. He may be 35, but Carlos is still one of the most reliable squad players we have. Still super-fit and the most technically gifted player in the squad. I hope this doesn't happen.

Is he our only player with an original chant? seems a very nice bloke- at the Bournemouth game he made an effort to shake hands and congratulate the Town fan who won the cross bar challenge. Edwards was on the pitch having a kick in at half time

I like him but If I was him I would want to be playing -at 35 he won't have many matches left in him.

Is he our longest-serving player? I'd have thought that Tommy Smith and Luke Hyam had been around longer, but I guess it depends whether you count joining the academy or making your first-team debut.

Always been a good player for Town, especially given that he was played out of position at right-back for far too long.

Has been a good player for the club. I wish him well, whatever choice he makes.

On a different subject, Any news on SEB'S injury?

One of our most naturally gifted footballers, but I guess that a move now would make sense, as long as we either get Hewitt back or Stearman from Wolves. We need more players with his ability to run at players with the ball

Great servant, 100% committed.. but I expect "He's taking the bus, he's taking the bus, Carlos Edwards, he's taking the bus".

No chance, club captain and still very much part of the squad.

No worse than Anderson.

Carlos has served us well as a lot of you guys have pointed out. I think his impact could have been greater if he wasn't played out of position for so long. But £1.35m does seem like an aweful lot of money to spend on him. Just shows how bad the previous regimes were at financial control.

what about taylor at 1.75 mill then , Stearman is not a RB he is a CB who is a decent RB and better than chambers at RB and possible CB. See roger jiohnsons gone to the PL with west ham from wolves !

Still worth a starting place in my opinion.

Agree with majority who have posted sesible quotes regarding Edwards. Having attended the dire FA Cup match on Saturday it is now very clear that we have a wafer thin squad with many back up players not good enough. It would be a bad decision to allow Edwards out on loan unless Stearman is the carrot. Edwards is still a very good footballer and dare I say it one of our quickest players

Don't want him to leave, very consistent, class player, class attitude and comes across as a real genuine guy. I'd much rather have him stay on with us in a player/coach role.

He's been a good and solid player for us, a loyal club man. Would not like to see if go until we have somebody like Stearman in place.
