Swansea McGoldrick Bid Claim as Tunnicliffe Fulham Link Persists
Thursday, 30th Jan 2014 22:55

Swansea City are reported to be showing late transfer window interest in Town top scorer David McGoldrick.

According to Sports Direct News, the Swans are set to make a deadline day offer for the 26-year-old, who has scored 14 goals this season.

The Blues are said to have put a price of £4 million on the striker, who has 18 months left on his contract.

Meanwhile, on-loan midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe continues to be linked with a permanent move from Manchester United to Fulham.

Earlier today, it was reported that the Cottagers had made a joint bid for Tunnicliffe and his Red Devils team-mate Larnell Cole, who Fulham manager René Meulensteen worked with during his spell as assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

While Tunnicliffe was watched by Fulham during his time with the Blues, it had been understood that their interest had cooled, however, unconfirmed reports this evening claim the 21-year-old and Cole are amongst a number of players set for deadline day medicals at Craven Cottage.

Tunnicliffe has been a regular in the Town side since joining on loan in August, making 24 starts and five sub appearances. He extended his spell until the end of the season earlier this month.

The January transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday, while Mick McCarthy's regular pre-match press conference is scheduled for 1.30pm.

"According to Sports Direct News..."

I'm sorry. Who? I won't be worrying about this until it comes from a more reputable source.

The only way to make this acceptable would be to use the lot to get McCormack from leeds

I would take the 4 million price tag in a heart beat.
Could we replace him with some one as good for free? No. But half as good, yes. We're not going up this season so would represent an excellent piece of business for someone who in the summer only has a year left on their deal.

This in theory would explain why we were linked with Doyle as otherwise I couldn't understand the point of that link. All we can do is hope the phone lines and internet goes down in Ipswich tomorrow and doesn't reappear until midnight.

Just rumours again so far, but selling your best players is what happens to championship clubs. As I loved pointing out to my Norwich supporting colleagues when Lambert left, don't expect loyalty in football except from fans. And for all we know he may have a clause that allows him to move to any club that offers a certain fee. If he does go good luck to him, I wouldn't begrudge any footballer wanting to play at the highest level they can achieve.its what we all do in our own work so why should they be any different? More money, better stadiums, better football, it would be hard to resist.

"Sports Direct News"? That's surely a made-up website? Def info? Def not.
Meanwhile, Tunnicliffe is not the answer to any Prem club's problems IMHO. Can't see it.

If it was a true report and we did let him go,we might as well pack it all in and go home now ! 4 million would just go into ME's account anyway

If its true it will not be MM making the final decision, it will be ME!

I suspect if £4 million is offered McG will be on his way. Every player has his price, particularly at a club like ours which has massive debt and an owner who has clearly decided to limit investment in the squad!

it's just paper talk.Big Mc.to be honest is not good enough for Swansea.Good Championship player though. The only player to leave if any might be Cresswell.Unless Mick has plans for loans to come in.Dont worry,3points tomorrow though.COYB

Why is it so called fans get out of their prams with stories like these. Lets be perfectly honest here there is not ONE player in the current squad who would cut it in the premiership. Cresswell is a good championship player but he is no where as good as Luke Shaw. McGoldrick is a good championship striker but would be found out in the top league.

We as a team are not good enough to go up. We are a team of too many OK players.

Tunnicliffe is not a top league player so if it went to Fulham would go for the money and a player in the squad. McGoldrick would go to Swansea as a squad player and the money, Cresswell if he went to Villa or who ever would go for the money and a place in the squad.

Come on boys get real!! ME is not going to put his hand in his pocket and can you really blame him. His money over the past few years have been badly used by Keane and Jewell and MM is paying the price for their waste

Still will be an interesting last few hours of the transfer window

Is this why we made the offer for Doyle?

We lose him and its kissing goodbye to any hope of play-offs for this season. As we have no link up from midfield, Diddsy is integral to how we play even without his goals.

IF TRUE- It is all very well saying NO to the transfer but then you may have a disillusioned McGoldrick for 20 games.
If I was offered a chance of playing in the premier League, a signing on fee and pay rise then I would probably want it.

Not surprised to see this at all.
Contrary to what many on here have said, I believe he would do very well at a club like Swansea. He is a class player, and I'm surprised we've held on to him for so long. I would be very sorry to see him go, of course, but would wish him well. He's knuckled down and done whatever we've asked of him. I'd be pleased to see him go to Swansea because of the way they play their football... it'd be a good fit IMO.
Those shouting 'No'... there's no way you can ever stop this. It's always been the case with our best players... Wark, Mariner, Butcher etc.
I think he'll go...but I'm pleasantly surprised to see we still have Cressy and Tommy Smith, both of whom would do well at a higher level.
The challenge for the club is to be able to move forward after selling such key players...through shrewd signings or player development.
Let's hope that's the case.

@floridaboy - well that's your opinion. Let's agree to disagree shall we? I think in the right team, and with the right support, he'd thrive.
