Tunnicliffe at Fulham
Friday, 31st Jan 2014 09:20

Loan midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe is at Fulham's training ground this morning to undergo a medical with the Cottagers having agreed a fee with Manchester United.

Having played down Fulham’s interest in Tunnicliffe yesterday, a source at the Premier League club confirmed that the move was on earlier this morning and the move looks set to go through well before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

Fulham are also believed to have made a move for another Manchester United youngster Larnell Cole. Cottagers manager René Meulensteen knows both players well from his time as assistant boss at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Tunnicliffe has been a regular in the Town side since joining on loan in August, making 24 starts and five sub appearances. He extended his spell until the end of the season earlier this month.

Losing the 21-year-old former England U17 international will be a blow for the Blues, although they are already believed to be talking to a potential replacement, Leeds midfielder Paul Green.

Meanwhile, Wolves striker Kevin Doyle, reportedly the subject of a rebuffed Town bid earlier in the week, continues to be linked with a loan move to Middlesbrough, along with his former club Reading, while QPR are said to have joined the chase. Rangers are in need of a striker having lost Charlie Austin for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

Midlands sources are now linking the Blues with another Wolves striker, Iceland international Bjorn Bergmann Sigurdarson, who Town were keen on prior to his move to Molineux during Terry Connor’s brief spell as manager in 2012 following Mick McCarthy’s sacking.

Sigurdarson, 22, has made 21 appearances for Wolves this season — the most recent last month - but the former Lillestrøm man has said he wants to leave the League One club.

Swansea, linked with a move for Town’s David McGoldrick last night, are now reported to have made a £2.5 million bid for Leicester striker Jeffrey Schlupp, perhaps reducing the chances of an approach for the Town top scorer.

I can live with that, just not McGoldrick please. I liked Tunnicliffe initially, but sort of expected him to be more of an attacking and goal scoring midfielder. Good but not really improved over time.

Good news about Swansea's reported move for Jeffrey Schlupp - hopefully means they'll leave McGoldrick alone.

Would prefer to see someone come in on a permanent transfer if (when) the Tunnicliffe deal is complete, especially someone with a little creativity - can't see it happening though, Paul Green on loan seems to be nailed on.

Not sure that this makes sense for Tunnicliffe as he surely needs games at his age
No doubt financially it does though

Thought Moyes was keen to keep him at United...

Either way we need to get a dynamic midfielder in alongside Skuse.

Gutted about this has lots of energy and cant see Paul Green as a similar replacement !! With respect Hyam out who does that leave to partner Skuse ? the opnly one unless we get someone is Tabb but personally not a centre mid to me. Or is he going to have Didz play in that role hence the reason looking for a striker !! Seriously why not have a look at Trotter i know ex player but could do a good job been out and come back a better player >?

Oi, Swansea, leave our Didz alone

Just wonder if Mick and TC could work with Taylor to have him bring some creativity in the middle, probably not a long term option, but we are running out of options.

He scores a goal when he chips it - over the wall!

So in summary of the 3 Tunnicliffe stories, no one really knows what is going on. Firstly Fulham were interested then 4 hours later Fulham weren't interested. Then all of a sudden this morning he is on his way. Sort it out

Midfield now looks threadbare. Pick up another injury at the weekend and like it or not mm will have to look at some youngsters.

Youngsters now that's an interesting concept!

It's a bit pantomime speed. He's signing for Fulham. Oh no he isn't. Oh yes he is.

Not that bothered re Tunnicliffe..20+ appearances for an attacking midfielder and not 1 goal at championship level isn't much use to us tbh plus Hunt is a decent replacement anyhow.

Time for Wordsworth to step up then, if he's fit.

Time to give Wordsworth a decent run in the team maybe!

Shame, think he's done a good job for us! I think we will certainly notice his absence!!

Any other exciting midfielders Man U can loan us as a token gesture? ;)

Not too bothered. Tunnicliffe has been OK but certainly not set the midfield alight. No goals from him is quite disappointing. Expect MM will get in another loanee (hopefully not Green). For the Bolton game, Tabb can play central mid, maybe even Wordsworth if he's not injured or ill.

Looks like he'll be back at Portman Road next season then - in a Fulham shirt

What a poor move for his career, would have expected him to stay with us for the season to get regular football to help his development. Can maybe see him getting on the bench at Fulham but nothing more. The Meulensteen connection is the main factor here, I would think he is still being paid a very nice wage from Man United. I think we need to get in two more midfielders before the deadline.

Not bothered bout this in the slightest. Bearing in mind he is a centre mid by trade, but played worse in the centre than he did wide left, out of position and the fact he's not scored having started a lot of games means he's done ok but nothing more. Not a premiership player either in my view. I just hope we dont get paul green, a player who cant get in a team lower than us in the table and out of form too. Bring back trotter or try and get dorrans, thats dream land though, coz requires ambition from ME and thats not forthcoming
