Town Keen on Tunnicliffe Return
Friday, 21st Feb 2014 11:12

TWTD understands that Town are keen to bring former loanee Ryan Tunnicliffe back to Portman Road. The 21-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan with the Blues from Manchester United but was recalled close to the end of the January transfer window and sold to Fulham.

Since then, the midfielder has started the last two Cottagers’ games, a 2-2 draw with Manchester United and a 3-2 home defeat to Liverpool, but the manager who brought him to Craven Cottage, his former Old Trafford mentor René Meulensteen, has been sacked.

New boss Felix Magath may be less inclined to field the inexperienced Tunnicliffe as he tried to keep the bottom-of-the-table Londoners in the Premier League and at a press conference yesterday suggested his squad was too big: “If we have too many players, then we have too many influences.”

Town look in need of central midfield cover in the short-term with Luke Hyam out for around a fortnight with the hamstring injury he suffered in the game against Blackpool, while manager Mick McCarthy may also want to increase the competition in his midfield in the final months of the campaign.

Tunnicliffe joined Town on a six-month loan in August and had his loan extended until the end of the season at the start of January before being recalled in order to make his move to Fulham.

The former England U16 and U17 international made 24 starts and five sub appearances for the Blues without scoring.

Poor lad, doesn't know whether he's coming or going!

At least he is wanted here.

Still young and learning his trade, but despite all his appearances he failed to find the net or provide to many assists. He also played better out wide when he is a centre mid by trade, didnt think we would miss him when he left but was hoping for a better replacement than green

Was getting better with each match imo, would welcome back with open arms. Just needs to add goals to his game which will come i'm sure.

Given that he went to Fulham to renew his contact with Rene Meulensteen, I would think that he would now relish the opportunity to escape from Felix Magath's boot-camp. I would love to see him back here.

Can't see this happening as I thought the whole idea was to replace Tunnicliffe with Paul Green. But never the less I would welcome him back with open arms.

Did he ever post his appreciation for Ipswich Town,if so I missed it,liked him when he was here but felt that he believed he was to good for us and was doing what he had to to keep himself in the shop window. If we are gonna use mercenaries I'd like to think we could find better ones.

Play Wordsworth give him some games we are not going to make playoffs this season, a good chance to see if he really is good enough and why Nouble I would rather see Taylor play

I think he was improving here and we lost him just as he was starting to show what he was made of. I would welcome him back most certainly.

No thanks. No goals and never created anything. Think Green will prove to be a better loan signing when he's fully fit.

Would rather have a striker on loan who could get us some goals

to TRACTAMATT -
TUNNERS -
He leathered ball into lower north during warm up and sent a full coffee over the supporter, after warm up finished and team went in , he came back out over to North and asked a steward to give the supporter a fiver and apologised for the incident.
He is a young lad who had a lot going on in a quick time , give him a break .
Nice touch , how many other pros would do that ???

We'll done son ,

Thanks Ryan but we have enough workhorse midfielders at the moment,We are going nowhere at this time but if we were to get a loan in it would be a back up striker for SEB cant see goals coming from anyone else.

@snipes

A fiver for a miscued shot hitting a supporter? Blimey, Shefki must owe me about 200 quid.

nah, dont fancy this much, not creative enough. I think green will be despite being afflicted with gingerishness.
were ok in midfield for an average champ side, which IS what we are.....cant see a sustained play off push this year, not enough quality in the side at the moment, maybe next season.

I've nothing against the lad, far from it; when he was here he worked hard, did his best and behaved well.

However, if there was any point at all to signing Green it was to replace Tunnicliffe. Adding another loaner will just reduce still further any opportunities for our own youngsters.

Get Wickham in for rest of season , did a good job at Sheff Weds

With injuries, having a small squad is nw becoming an issue .... As was feared by many posters on here. Now it looks like more loans. We need them, as we need players, but this should have been considered by the board sooner.

Snipes you ask how many other footballers would do that the cynical would say any others who didn't wanna go to court and the more cynical would point out our midfield is closer to killing the crowd than finding the back of the net but I take your point, Until he was sold out from under us he was doing ok but his performances were slipping.

If this report is true I cant for see for the life of me what Micks thinking on this is other than playing 4 central midfielders across the park and that wouldnt supprise me.Mick said we dont have a natural right back signs Richardson dosent play him there, signs Green I think as a replacement for Tunners and put him out wide at the expense or Anderson or Taylor for that matter Clearly if a loan was to come in it has to be a striker because if we are to rely on SEB who is getting over a serious injury then a hamstring problem if he goes so does the goals.

Get him back asap. Ship Hyam off to Colchester or someone. Offers very little IMHO

Green, Skuse, Tunnicliffe, Hunt
