Richardson Set for Midfield Start
Saturday, 26th Apr 2014 11:24

Frazer Richardson has been handed a central midfield role in the Town team taking on newly-promoted Burnley at Turf Moor in today’s must-win live Sky game (KO 12.15pm).

Manager Mick McCarthy moves the on-loan Boro man into his midfield alongside Cole Skuse with Anthony Wordsworth missing out having suffered a dead leg during Monday’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth. Luke Hyam is out with a hip flexor strain.

Christophe Berra is back at the heart of the defence with skipper Luke Chambers moving to right-back, while Paul Green comes in for Paul Anderson, who suffered a hamstring injury against the Cherries.

Freddie Veseli is on the bench for the first time since he returned from his loan spell at Bury. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Alex Henshall and Alan Lee all made the trip but aren't included in the 18.

Burnley: Heaton, Tripper, Shackell, Duff, Mee, Arfield, Marney, Jones, Kightly, Barnes, Ings. Subs: Cisak, Edgar, Wallace, Treacy, Baird, Stanislas, Long.

Town: Gerken, Chambers (c), Cresswell, Berra, Smith, Skuse, Richardson, Green, Hunt, Williams, Murphy. Subs: Loach, Mings, Veseli, Tabb, Taylor, Marriott, Nouble.

We've got to sort that midfield out in the summer.

Go for it lads, there's no value in a draw today.

Agreed midfield continues to cause headaches and has done all season, strange he's put another player out of position (Richardson) although accustomed to the right side - personally would have liked to see Taylor get a start.
Also worth a mention in a game we MUST win he continues to play Murphy up top on his own. Wish the lads all the best and let's hope the Burnley boys find it difficult just getting to the pitch!

I'm reliably informed they will line up as per the story, although obviously there's the flexibility to swap things about if necessary.

Doesn't look like Henshall is even going to get a kick this season.Shame.

Wonder if Mick doesn't consider SEB in his future plans given that Marriot and Taylor ahead of him in the pecking order?

Funny isn't it how magilton took us to the edge of the play offs playing square pegs in round holes and here we find ourselves again seven years later!

I'd like to have seen how a 3-5-2 worked as well, after all, it's the best fit with those players. We'll see...

How ridiculous playing Richardson in midfield - yet another player playing in an alien position.

Why not Taylor in the frame - we need to WIN.

Can someone get thro' to MM that a draw is NOT AN OPTION.
Oh well, a leopard will never change it's spots I guess - so why expect anything else.

You could all just wait and see what happens I suppose... but why let that get in the way of a good pre match moan?

Does nobody understand the concept of versatility anymore? FR can play as either a defender or a midfielder. Remember a chap called Wark? Used to play for us, was quite good, played anywhere? He was versatile FR whist not in the same league, like many players in the modern game can play in numeroys positions. Square peg my a**** he should be more than capable.

To-day all our boys need to be on their very best form. Then anything could happen.

Agree with Mark's comments above.

I quite fancy Richardson as a player for us next season. He looks better and better every time I've seen him play,

Go for it guys!!!!!!

Ipswich slightly better 1st half. Richardson and Hunt doing well with their full backs and forcing them through the middle. Could go either way, no hang over from Burnley yet. Agree Skuse not at his best 1st half. They look vulnerable from set plays with Big Berra and TS looking like they could get on the end of one
