McCarthy: Taylor Can Leave
Saturday, 2nd Aug 2014 17:33

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that striker Paul Taylor is available for transfer or loan having been left out of the Blues’ 21-man squad at Leyton Orient today.

“He’s available for transfer or loan. He won’t be playing for me,” McCarthy said afterwards. “He’s not for me.

"That was made clear at the end of last season, so I’m not saying anything that I haven’t already said and it’s not ‘shock, horror, that’s a good story’ because that was the case last season.

“I thought that I’d have a look at it, assess it. He came back really fit, he’s a had a go, but he’s just not for me.”

Taylor, 26, joined Town from Peterborough for an initial fee of £1.5 million in the summer of 2012 but, having suffered a serious foot injury soon after signing, has been unable to break into the first team on a regular basis.

Great shame as he's the type of player to make things happen - something we seriously lack.
I suspect he's not the most pleasant of individuals off the pitch so would be a disruptive influence long term. Ho hum.

I support MM 100% and think he's doing a fantastic job, however I just don't get this at all.

Every time I've seen the boy play I think he offer's something different from the workmanlike Murphy and intelligent Mcgoldrick. He's strong on the ball and likes directly running at defender's.

I think something must have happened early on because he's never fancied him.

Another big money signing who will go for buggar all, who knows, perhaps he could go the way of some of our other cast offs and be successful.

I think we'd be lucky to see £200,000 back from that £2m wasted on him. I bet he'll sign for someone and do well. You have to look at the big picture though, if he's a bad apple in the dressing room then it doesn't matter how talented you are.

I don't mind if its a loan player we sign to add the attacking flair in the middle as long as we get to keep them all season. A player of Jonny Williams quality probably wont be affordable unless its a loan. I see he's still at palace and MM unlike the dark lord and PJ seems to have a good relationship with prem clubs managers.

What evidence do you all have that Taylor is the type of player we need? Apart from the odd sub appearance where he ran the ball into the corner or into the back of a defender. He is easy on the eye when on the ball due to his style but that doesn't make him a quality attacking player. We all trust MM and TC I assume, and those two have seen him training almost every day for the last year or so. I think they are in a better position to assess who is going to benefit this club, and they don't get much wrong. He also has had legal problems and commitment issues in the past. What more do we need to see that this guy is a bad egg? We have Bajner, Murphy, Mcgoldrick, Marriott and Nouble (who has been scoring goals). Taylor doesn't even feature in this squad. It's admirable of Mick for being honest and offloading rather than having him rot in the reserves. Which is bad at his age after his injury.
Also, about Tabb: Tabb has played in the Premier League, quite successfully. Taylor has not. He also works his socks off and played better in his first spell with us than Taylor has done at all. That's the different class.

Such a shame. A MUCH better player than Nouble.

Talbs77... Its noticeable that there has been no stampede since MM put him on the list in May to sign Taylor. I keep hearing he's talented, but seen little evidence of it being of use. I guess its like the keepy-uppy guys who can do all those tricks. Very impressive, but feck all use on the pitch and if it was they'd be playing for a club, not doing demos at the summer fair.

Don't put the effort in training.
Bad attitude.

Really people?

For what ever reason for not fitting in Taylor good luck when you leave and SORRY your injure at IPSWICH looks to have been a set back in your career.

Sindre94... I know Nouble gets some stick for what he can't do, but we were winning games when he was in the side partly because of the things he can do, which is be a pain in the arse and huge physical problem for the opposition which creates opportunities for others. Along with Mings he was doing the Michael Johnson course at Burton pre the start of pre-season which tells me enough about his attitude to think he deserves some support. Even if they'd cost the same amount I'd rate Nouble a better signing than Taylor.

McCarthy's attitude to Taylor seems to be "I've made up my mind don't confuse me with the facts".
A stubborn Yorkshireman living up to the Yorkshire image.

Just to make it clear, when Mick praised Taylor at the start of pre-season it was obviously just to try and get clubs interested in the hope we'd get a decent bid for him. He isn't for Mick, we've known this for around a year now. Shame it hasn't worked out but In Mick we trust, so the sooner we get rid the better!

MM sees him every day in training and has obviously been unhappy with his attitude. The only people who know what has actually gone on are the manager and the player himself.

We can all speculate on the rights and wrongs of Paul Taylor. Maybe he has a drink issue and it has affected how he trains. Maybe he is constantly late for training.

Maybe it will eventually come out. But the quicker he goes the better for the smooth running of the club and the dressing room.

MM obviously gave him a chance when pre season began and the way MM is speaking it is obvious that Taylor threw it back at him.

Bluetone... which facts is MM ignoring? Please tell me what Taylor has done to suggest he's worthy of playing in the side? I think MM asks 100% of players and that's not too much to ask. If Taylor was prepared to work hard and do the job for the team he's required to do MM would be fighting his corner. He clearly thinks he doesn't have to for whatever reason. I always recall my county coach telling me "Any idiot can work hard"... ok he was out of order as I was recovering from chicken pox, not being lazy in that game, but his point is still valid.

Obviously been unhappy with his attitude.

Again really?

We don't know what the problems maybe and he is not going to be a Ipswich player so just wish him the best and move on or carry on knocking for what ever that archive for you.

TBH, after attending the open day, I'm not surprised about this. When playing the small match in the training session, Taylor would either perform a quality move, or not bother. Sometimes he would even make a decent pass, but still decide there was not a cat in hell's chance that he was going to go for a return, even if it was on. Hell, a lot of the time he'd just turn and look at the floor.

If that's what Mick sees every training session, then I'm not surprised he says he's not for him.

Why do people rate him ,there were two players available on transfer from peterborough , Boyd and Taylor and we got the wrong one , paying a large fee and large wages. He is not hot and cold he is luke warm and cold. Move on...

Jas: those that think Taylor has not really been given a fair chance by MM do not "love" him as you put it. If I remember rightly, he had a really good game against Wolves (on his debut I think?), he was a game changer when we beat Blackpool away and was MoM, and the three times I've saw him come on as a sub last season he really put in a shift; working hard and chasing back as well as showing a bit of skill on the ball. So in my view, based on the limited times he had on the pitch I think he did work hard individually and for the team. I recall him tracking back and making a defensive tackle by the corner flag in one game at PR and thought at the time 'surely Mick will be pleased with that' - but despite a very good 20 minutes or so he didn't even make the bench for the next game. And therein lies the rub, those of us who simply don't think he was given a fair run in the team, as others have no matter how badly they might have played, which we find perplexing to the say the least.

How do you know Taylor was a "disruptive influence since he signed"? Have you seen him training, do you know players or staff that have confided in you - or is it just pure speculation? I read so may posts about him having a "poor attitude" and "letting the club down" and so good riddance to him but the fact is we don't know this - only Mick and his staff do.

I rarely post because there are so many numpties on this forum with ill-informed views who do not know the facts (I'm not suggesting you're a numpty BTW) but I wanted to put some perspective on the Taylor debate. If Mick was to simply state that Taylor unfortunately doesn't fit in to the way his teams are set up (he's neither an out and out winger or a forward - more of an Eric Gates type player IMO for those remember that far back) then fine we could all move on but for those that speculate he was a bad trainer, a bad influence, a mouthy git, a non-conformist etc and to then wish him good riddance without knowing the facts - well, you're plainly wrong.

In summary, I do not for one minute "love" Taylor, but I do believe that MM did not given him a fair crack of the whip, I personally would have him in a Town shirt ahead of Tabb, for instance, and I'd certainly have brought him on more often as an impact sub.

I'll be back home for the Fulham and Crawley games and hope to see 10-15 games this season during my visits back to the UK. I was fairly optimistic for the season ahead but I'm not yet convinced that MM will do anything other than select a predictable 'hard to beat' side against Fulham. I hope I'm proved wrong!

I suggest theres more about Taylor than his football ability to condider. Players have to "fit" and sometimes the most apparent gifted player can have other attributes/ flaws in their character (on and off the pitch) that is likely not gel into a close knit squad. I suspect Taylor has ticked on the cons than pros side of the "desired/must have"list of required qualities.

Talented yes but clearly has an attitude. He dosnt show the qyality enough. Yes he sometimes offers a moment of flair but to often it really is a moment. All I have seen is a chip on his shoulder with no wirk ethic and a tendency to go down when talent suggest he can do more. Even Posh haven't come knocking which speaks volumes. As a replacement, on loan of course bu, Jimmy Kebe? Looks down the pecking order a bit at palace

Qatarblue ... By no means do I mean any offence by saying people love Taylor. In fact, I am a great believer that in sport generally we all have favourites and those that we are less keen on.

However, it is pretty obvious that Taylor was disruptive and let himself down after joining us. It's a closed issue, which I won't go into on here again, but if you are not aware, look it up.

I agree with you re the hard to beat side and would point out I am all for quality creative players, but as others point out on here tonight, Sadly there are issues with Taylor. SamWhiteUk post probably sums it up as far as I'm concerned.

Well if he is getting rid then to me personally it's a shame, because ability wise at least he is streets ahead of nouble. If Nouble had Taylor's ability to go with his work rate and effort he would be a good player. Like wise if Taylor had Noubles effort and committment he would be a good player too. What is clear is that a squad that is still down from last season and who has got rid of veseli and now prob taylor will still need a couple of additions

Rumour has it that Jonny williams will be coming in on a season long loan once pulis announces his squad.

I personally think Mick is totally black and white with decisions on players from the off, theres no grey area at all. Its quite obvious that from day 1 of Taylor being back playing and fit last summer Mick just wasnt interested in him.
He basically had no chance from the off.
Mick likes big strong strikers or good hold up players like Didz, he doesnt play speed merchants, he doesnt build his team that way.
It will be slow methodical build up again this season we just have to accept thats how we play.
Good luck Paul just dont come back here and score eh?

I'm disappointed things did not work for taylor. From a selfish point of view I was hoping my namesake would do well at Portman road. I always wanted to play for the town since a kid, shame this Paul taylor did not do so well

thebeat... how is MM black and white? Taylor has been involved until today in preseason.. he was involved at the end of last season. I would take your opinion more seriously if A) you saw him in training every day B) Taylor had ever done anything to suggest he deserves to be in the side. To describe McGoldrick as just a big strong player or hold up player displays a real ignorance in my opinion. He a talented footballer.
