Keane: At Ipswich I Managed Badly
Keane: At Ipswich I Managed Badly
Tuesday, 7th Oct 2014 13:26

Former Town boss Roy Keane’s second autobiography The Second Half is published Thursday but after a Manchester branch of Tesco put it on sale early passages have begun to appear on Twitter and in the national media.

While much of the material leaked so far centres around his time at Manchester United, the Irishman includes a chapter on what he accepts were 20 unsuccessful months at Town.

"I don't think I'm a bad manager, but at Ipswich I managed badly,” he says in the book, which he wrote with Booker Prize-winning author Roddy Doyle.

"I spoke to some people like something on the bottom of my shoe,” concedes Keane, who is now the assistant manager of the Republic of Ireland and Aston Villa.

“I couldn't feel it - me and the club,” he admitted, adding, "I don't f****** like blue. City were blue, Rangers were blue. My biggest rivals were blue. Is that childish?”

The Second Half is officially published on Thursday and is available from Amazon here.

Been said by everyone else but yes, he was the worst thing that ever happened to this club. Set us back years - got rid of any creativity and skill in the side. Had no clue.

I'd disagree with anyone who said Jewell was worse. He bought some decent players, tried to get some flair and skill back, it just didn't work out. Keane didn't know what he was doing at any point.

As for his comments about not liking blue. What a tool.

Biggest error Marcus Evans has made in his time here was ditching Town legend Magilton for that idiot.

It's taken us 6 years to finally start moving forwards again.

At the time I could see that Keane was steadily dismantling our club...trouble is I don't think he knew how he was going to rebuild it. This is confirmed by him saying that he managed our club badly. It was clearly a marketing ploy by Evans in bringing him in but sadly it was not what was required at that time...possibly pound notes was more important for Evans back then. I have always felt sorry for Jewell, he had to start reassembling the club but he was unable to locate the pieces that were there before...we had become a soulless cub. He tried but failed, cant blame the bloke really. It might sound mad but if we had brought Magilton back in I think he would have had a better attempt at discovering ourselves again. Any how, we now have a proper manager who has put some new building blocks in place, and that foundation should see us good in the long term. Its looking good already, although some were criticising MM's style earlier, so lets just persevere and see where we get too.

When you consider the money he spent (e.g. £3 million on Leadboots) he really did f*** up in style. Makes MM's achievements all the more impressive.

I know that there were some "Magilton out" people at the time but as Lightningboy says and
I have said before, it took to the end of last season to even get us back to where Jim had us.Maybe if Jim had been given one more year???? We will never know.

Worst Manager ever! I said the day he was appointed it would be a disaster. I still understand the appointment, which was based entirely on the sunderland revival and the fact that he should have had the pick of the best young talent out there. Unfortunately he'd already pissed fergie off so instead of say, Drinkwater, we got Lee Martin. His attitude stinks, always has, not as a player but as a person and a human being. Here is a man who has "no regrets" about ending another pros career, about walking out on his country on the eve of a world cup, about head butting a team mate and about generally being a knob with a chip on his shoulder that would make the Mcain factory proud. Absolutely back of the line when they were handing out decency. I rate pj more, I think it was too much for him to sort out but still a better manger than Keane who I would like to tar and feather with canary yellow ones, then he would be an accurate depiction of what the man is, scum. Never liked him, nevet will. F***k of Keane. Can we have that as a chant at future games do we think?

"I don't think I'm a bad manager, but at Ipswich I managed badly,”.............Roy, you are a sh*t manager and an unpleasant human being, don't ever forget either of those points.

Roy Keane has done absolutely nothing for ITFC. In fact, Roy Keane has done absolutely nothing for anyone other than one person. Roy Keane. He's greedy, unpleasant, arrogant, disrespectful and most of all he's the biggest @rsehole in world football. If anyone can name someone in football they like less than this man I would love to hear it!

Keane was the worst I've ever seen. Always felt Ipswich were a stepping stone for him. Didn't work out for him and us.

"I don't like blue" - You have to laugh at that as an excuse! So pathetic it's almost genius.
Must make MM happy to be achieving success where RK completely failed.
Having said all that he somehow attracted a regular 22,000 plus attendance.
And I'm liking his new beard.

"Is that f***ing childish?" I'd say it's tantamount to receiving wages by deception, admitting you didn't do well on purpose 'cos you didn't like the place. My opinion of him sinks even deeper.

Yeah, but he was right about Jordan Rhodes. He even missed a penni at the weekend.

What MM has acheived with a fraction of the funds that RK had at his disposal vs Keanes shambolic attempt at management shows just how much better off we are now. What did he sell Rhodes for again?! What a joke...

Jim wasn't going to get us up, but neither were the other two buffoons. Mick was the best appointment since Joe Royle.

Wish we still had Magic now. We'd be in the Premier League and wouldn't have had to suffer the last three idiots

I had no problem with the sacking of Super Jim Magilton but the slagging off he got from some on here was a terrible way to treat a Town legend. Jewel and Keane where mistakes by an inexpiranced football club owner. He has made amends by bringing Mick in.

The rest he just didn't speak to.

Pathetic comment from a pathetic man. Completely inept as a manager.

Simonds92 added 16:21 - Oct 7
He completely ruined every aspect of our club, jewell had to try and rebuild a broken club and he couldn't manage it but he definitely put his all in to the job I don't think you can be angry at anyone for that. Might of done better if he had a certain jordan Rhodes at the club to pick. Roy Keane is a complete clown and watching his punditry on itv no wonder he was never a success, talks absolute bo****ks, useless pr**k

There are three absolute facts of life. Death, taxes and the fact that the man is, and will remain until the end of time, the worst manager by a light year this club will ever employ.

The thought that we had him at our club, makes me sick beyond belief and I still can't see his face or hear his voice without feeling a shudder of contempt.

No wonder he is hero worshipped by the budgies!!
