Palace Were Planning Williams Recall
Monday, 10th Nov 2014 16:04

Crystal Palace were considering recalling loanee Jonny Williams before he suffered his injury in Saturday’s 1-0 home victory over Watford. The 21-year-old, who was yesterday withdrawn from the Wales squad for their Euro 2016 qualifier in Belgium, was on the end of a reckless Joel Ekstrand challenge just after the hour mark.

According to the South London Press, Eagles manager Neil Warnock had been weighing-up bringing Williams back to Selhurst Park ahead of their game with Liverpool following the international break.

Williams is currently expected to be out of action for around a month with what's now said to be a groin injury but saw a specialist and underwent a scan today which should give a better indication of how long he might be out.

“I’ve had a few injuries since I’ve been here and it’s been tough mentally and physically. It can grind you down,” Williams told the club site.

“I’ve not really been able to have a full week of training since I’ve been here because I’ve had to manage my fitness during the week.”

Regarding missing out on the Welsh match, he added “It’s always disappointing to miss out on games. It’s exciting times for Wales. It’s probably our best chance to qualify in a while,.

“We’ve had two wins and a draw against a good Bosnia side. All the home nations have started well and we will be looking to qualify.”

Great shame for the lad and for us. Great opportunity for Teddy Bishop now and am sure he won't let us down - he has been terrific.

Palace may allow us to get his fitness levels up again once he's recovered, but with their precarious position it means the better he does for us the more likely he'll be taken back

Suddenly we have riches in that area - Bru, Bishop and Hyam not too shabby, with plenty of cover.

Always thought once the month was up, he'd be off. Shame. But The Bish is a pretty decent replacement!

Earlier in the season I was worried whenever Jonny wasn't available. He's still a top class young lad and he is a loss when unavailable, but I just don't feel as concerned about it as I used to anymore. Bishop's looking increasingly capable of fulfilling the same criteria and Bru is proving a great find.

I'm not gonna say "we don't need Jonny", but I don't think this news is the catastrophic blow it would've been in the past.

I agree that Teddy Bishop is a very promising player and I'd like to see him getting more games, but please remember that he is young and doesn't have much experience; I'd hate to see him weighed down with too much expectation.

Oh dear.
Certainly is a bit injury prone;but considering the treatment he gets from opposing teams not surprising.Think he should get more protection but ref Saturday hasn't shown a single red card yet I believe.
I think he is a super lad,and with the team doing so well feel we should put in a bid for him in new year,as Mick was hinting the other week that if Town near the top then,he might approach ME for a bit of cash, not surprisingly.
I know it isn't applicable at moment but also some relaxation in FFP rules in offing.

If this had been last season it would've felt like the end of the earth, but this year he's not been as effective in my opinion. He's been hampered by injuries and been a stop start season so far for him. I'd love to keep him as long as possible but we now have much more strength in depth should he be recalled. Teddy Bishop and Kevin Bru have been outstanding additions to the squad this year.

As much as I feel we are a stronger side with Joniesta included, consider this. How many games have we won this season in which Joniesta has played? Please remember the score when he was assulted by the Watford centre half on Saturday also.....I make it zero......unless I am missing something?

A shame. Not sure if we will see him again in a Town shirt, as hasn't had the same impact as last year, primarily due to injuries. We also now have Bishop. Wonder if MM and ME may be tempted into the loan market. As squad is still very small compared to others. Options up front still a concern if one of McGoldrick or Murphy are injured.

The only way we might see Jonny in a town shirt again, if he gets recalled is if we go up. I reckon Mick would try and make him his first signing. Now is the time we see how serious ME is about promotion if we are still right up there come the Jan window

As much as Jonny is a quality talent, we've not won a game with him in the side this season (drawing 0-0 when he was forced off on Saturday) - which just goes to show we can get results without him.

Bishop and Bru can easily replace and both have been superb this season!

That said would still like Jonny to stay at town for as long as possible.

This talented player had essentially been
" kicked" out of Championship football. Bloody thugs.

...and for those suggesting it doesn't matter because we have Bishop. You'd better prepare yourselves gor simikar treatment to be metered out to our takented players.

It's the officials responsibility to protect footballers with flare ffs !

I wish Johnny would tell Palace to do one. They are stifling his career.

Bishop and Bru rightly get the mention but we have Hunt also who is looking good and then we have Henshall and Stewart still to come in contention all in all looking pretty good
