Leeds Midfielder Linked Thursday, 12th Feb 2015 10:39
Town are reportedly keen on signing Leeds midfielder Rodolph Austin on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
According to The Sun, the Blues want to sign the 29-year-old on an emergency loan now before making the move longer term when the Jamaican international’s Whites contract comes to an end in the summer.
Combative central midfielder Austin was reported to be close to moving to Wigan in a £500,000 deal just before the end of the transfer window but Leeds rebuffed the bid with manager Neil Redfearn glad they kept hold of him.
Redfearn told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “Personally I felt we had to keep him and I made that view clear. I spoke to [Leeds chairman] Andrew Umbers and to Rudy himself and they knew what I thought about it. I didn’t want him to leave.
“To be fair to the club, they’ve stood firm and kept him here and it’s the right call. We’ve had a tough season but we’ve been better recently and he’s a big reason for the last few results. We’d have been worse off without him.”
Having turned down Wigan's offer so recently, it would be a surprise if the Whites were to make Austin available for loan now [and Blues boss Mick McCarthy subsequently dismissed the link].
Austin started his career in his native Jamaica with Portmore United. He moved to Norwegian club Brann initially on loan in 2008 before joining permanently the following year.
After four years with the Bergen club 6ft tall Austin, who has won 71 international caps, scoring six goals, joined Leeds United in July 2012.
Since then he has made 95 starts and 11 sub appearances for the Whites and has scored seven goals.

When it looked like Wigan were in for him I wondered why we didn't go in for him. He is a decent midfielder and can't fathom why the Norwich of the north don't play him. Can certainly chip in with goals for sure
dad is a leeds fan, and been quite a few times this season, and no thanks! very inconsistent player, can lose his head too, not what we need in my opinion! even leeds fans don't rate him.
Can't see us signing anyone before the end of next week. If we finished in the playoffs Mick would want any loan signing to at least be available for the final on 23 May so with the emergency loan rule being 93 days, that works back to 20 February.
Bit confused by the report here. Are we in for him or not? If Leeds declined 500k from Wigan why would let him go on loan. Doesn't make any sense this, sorry.
Why Leeds and Ireland?? Surely we have any scouts looking elsewhere or can't ME afford the bus fares! Going to Clubs in worse state than us for players they don't want is baffling. If we really do have aspirations of play-offs why aren't we banging on Prem doors or going farther afield like Spain/Sweden. Problem is that MM has left it late so even if he gets some fresh talent in they'll take time to bed in!! Should have got loans in window and not left it to emergency; bad planning.
Not that we will, but nicking Dorrans from under scums noses would be good, John Walters is in an out at Stoke mutch to the detrirment of my fantasy league team. Id have him back.
If Roy Keane reckons he demanded out of town then I reckon Roy Keane is taling b0110cks
