Derby Linked With McGoldrick Move
Wednesday, 8th Jul 2015 10:01

Derby County are reportedly showing interest in Town striker David McGoldrick.

According to The Sun, the Rams are keen on adding the 27-year-old to their striking options and the frontman is claimed to be “open” to the potential switch.

McGoldrick, who was born in Nottingham and has previously represented both Notts County and Nottingham Forest, has a year left on his Town contract.

Speaking last week manager Mick McCarthy said that the Ireland international is determined to make a positive start to Town’s new season having missed most of the final months of 2014/15 due to a troublesome thigh injury.

“It is a big season for him and he knows that,” he said. “We spoke about it at the end of the season and he wants to come back flying.

“He’s having a couple of extra weeks off because he was involved with the Republic of Ireland.

“Hopefully, if he stays injury free, his season will be great, not a problem at all. He’s a top player.”

McGoldrick’s family moved back to the East Midlands last season having been unable to settle in Suffolk but this is not uncommon in football and the striker is understood to be happy at the club.

At the end of last season McCarthy said that the striker was “not looking to move” and issued a hands-off warning on both McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy, with Middlesbrough's recently rebuffed offer of around £4 million reported again by some media sources today. Last summer, Town turned down a £7 million offer for McGoldrick from Leicester City.

Elsewhere, former Town goalkeeper-coach James Hollman, 37, has joined Motherwell in a similar role.

That's that then.

He'll get a much better offer from Derby and we'll have to sell him.

If I am honest, whilst I am in awe of his skill, touch, and ability to pick a pass, I am also loving the Sears and Murphy bromance.

Can we replace him? Johnny Williams says we can.

I'd let him go for as much money as we can get - providing we can get an adequate replacement.

However! (here comes the hypocrisy) I would like him to stay and feel he can change games in a heart beat...

Derby are like the Man City of the Championship, just trying to buy their way to the premiership. No one likes you, hands off our players!! I think mcgoldrick could be the difference between us going up this season, for that reason I wouldn't consider anything less than 5 mil, and even then, after consideration I'd politely tell them to do one!

Well as he has 1 year left on his contract and has been hit by injuries, so if Derby do want him then the fee won't be as much as the 7 million we turned down from Leicester. For me it will all hinge on whether he signs a new deal or not, if offered 1. If he doesn't then sell him

He's been missing half a season so it is easy to forget how good he is. If MM would play him just behind Murphy and sears that's a frightening forward line.

Derby seem to have a bottomless back account while ours seem to be frozen in the vault.

why would we sell him? we have enough funds to strenghten, it's not like we need more after the sale of mings? people Re forgetting how good he was the previous season, need his flair and creativity! just shows how good murphybwas, to overshadow didz! we can't sell him!!

No big surprise family moved back to midlands! if the price is right lets do the deal get in a new striker and two fullbacks, with Mings and McG money we can afford quality and move onto new season with committed players.

didn't realise his family had gone. that's a shame but surely would foreshadow him leaving either this season or when his contract expires?

Have I missed something? From here in NZ I got the impression that Derby had already spent more money than the Greek national debt. Have they sold someone for a vast amount and they are now reinvesting the cash? Or does FFP not apply to them? I am truly not sure what is going on at Derby.

Dids has been unhappy with the promised lack of investment since his move was denied as stated on a number of occasions . He will join Derby who are looking to get promoted by going after players to do so not just seeing who is left on freebies and hoping . He will get more money and a better chance of promotion .
Murphy has already stated the same about investment in the squad and could follow him out of the door but at least we will be keeping the FFP happy

Wouldn't be too bothered tbh - depending on how much we got for him - i'd be happy with £2-3m.

Personally I don't think he's anywhere near as good as he was 2 years ago, physically or mentally.

So long as we keep Murphs alongside Sears & Pitman i'll be more than happy plus we could bring in someone else with the cash.

I think FFP doesn't apply to approx 23 of the 24 Championship teams!

Although I'm a fan of McGoldrick, if Derby want to pay something like what Leicester offered, then we should accept!
Unlike last year we now have Sears and Pitman too, and with McGoldrick's injury record....

A year left on his contract, his family in East Midlands. As much as I would like him to stay, we may as well get something for him as I don't think he'll sign another.

East Midlands is basically in east Anglia. It's not even that far. Stop whinging ya silly sausages. No bid has even been tabled.

Anybody who watched the Norwich Away game in the play offs will know we need McGoldrick to gain promotion...
With 10 men and 3 - 1 down... the man walks on the pitch in his usual laboured style (granted fans may not like this) but within minutes he'd waltzed past 4 players on 3 separate occasions - particularly one move which nearly resulted in Sears scoring.
He is a cut above the rest of everybody in this league and we should be keeping hold of him!

Granted, if £7/8 million came in would we be foolish to turn it down with 1 year on his contract? But then I'd want us to spend 5 or 6 on a replacement and that just ain't going to happen!

Let's get him playing, let's get him assisting and scoring - come January and it's not working, either he's not or we're some how miles a drift of promotion - then by all means sell him! <<<<< But I just can't see it happening and think had he'd been fit last year, we'd probably have made Wembley AT THE VERY LEAST!

TimmyH added 10:40 - Jul 8
Would be a bit of a shame if he were to go, would have liked to see him get back to full fitness and see how he shapes up this season as he has something to offer at this level, but surely first rule of thumb is don't sell to a fellow rival looking to get automatic promotion.

As another poster mentioned where are Derby getting all this money from?...

itfcserbia added 10:43 - Jul 8
If he doesn't feel he still has a lot to prove here and give back to fans and staff - well he can sod off. That being said, hopefully he does feel it and hopefully he will stay and sign new deal soon.

We really need to keep him. He's got skill and quality which sometimes you need in a game, I believe he can be the player that can win us games which need a little quality. We can't sell him to a rival it doesn't make sense to me. I think mick has this all under control, he'll have a plan for everything.
