Alabi Joins Grimsby on Loan
Wednesday, 25th Nov 2015 14:50

Blues striker James Alabi has joined Vanarama National League Grimsby Town on loan until January 3rd.

Alabi signed for Town in the summer after a trial having been released by Stoke City.

The 21-year-old scored his first Blues goal in his only appearance so far when he came on as a sub in the 4-1 Capital One Cup win at Doncaster.

Alabi, who had a spell with Celtic as a youngster, had spells on loan at Mansfield, Scunthorpe, Accrington and Forest Green while with the Potters.

If he gets a sniff of goal, hope it's not too big a one, being in Grimsby that may not be too pleasant.

Interesting, glad he's out getting football, shame it's only in conference premier. Hopefully he puts in some goals and earns himself another loan move to a league club. I like the look of alibi though from what I've seen.

I'm from Grimsby and go to a lot of home games so I'm happy to see him sign. Hopefully bangs a few in.

Disappointing that he is off to a non league side. At 21 that doesn't seem promising to step down to that level

I saw him score for Town, so somewhat of a collector's item and thought he'd have had a sniff of the bench by now. I guess instead he's not been able to step up and so he goes for a whiff Pollocks and fresh air.

Not the end perhaps, but it's looking likely for young James.

Why we signed him in the first place is a mystery. Never going to get a game for the 1st team. Rather than waste his time playing reserve football he should be out trying to make a proper career in the lower leagues so good on him for dropping down to get some football rather than sitting on his wages and unprepared to go out on loan like Tabb, Parr and Andre Dozzell.

umm.. why would we want to loan Jonny Parr & Andre Dozzell out for Lathers? and can you explain please how they are unprepared?

Perhaps Parr thinks he should be playing first team so doesn't want to go out on loan ?

Have seen Alabi play for the 'stiffs'(whoops showing my age).
Must say not particularly impressed with him,and doubt very much if he could hold down a place in a Championship clubs first team.
Even though he is only 21,is already a bit of a journeyman, similar I feel to big Frank Nouble.
Suppose he could be ok as back up;but don't expect him to be kept on when his contract expires.
However still only young and could still develop as Graham has at Wolves;but to be fair, like so many of Micks signings, wasn't really given much game time here.

Decent player, but unlikely to get a chance with us. That said, we lacked impact players on the bench Saturday, with all three fit strikers starting.

Should have been given a chance by now, off the bench at least. Bajner, Nouble etc. got an opportunity at least. Why buy and not try.

Its a bad move for him and the Club. It didn't work for Marriott so why try him so low down the leagues. He should have gone to Div 1/2 otherwise how is he going to show his potential against poor opposition!! It didn't work for Marriott as its proved that scoring goals at Woking was easy and so couldn't make it in higher division. Alabi needs good coaching and to be with better players who can help him develope. Whata waste
