Connolly Joins Bray Wanderers
Monday, 21st Dec 2015 09:36

Winger Dylan Connolly has joined SSE Airtricity Premier League side Bray Wanderers back in his native Ireland.

Speaking last week, manager Mick McCarthy said the Irish U21 international’s contract would be settled so he could join an Irish side ahead of the 2016 season.

“Dylan will be released,” he confirmed. “We’ll make him a free agent so he can go and get a club in Ireland if he can.”

Connolly, 20, joined the Blues in January from Shelbourne, signing an 18-month contract.

The Dubliner was on the first-team bench on a number of occasions last season but without making his senior debut. However, he failed to make the same impact during this campaign.

Real shame. None of the players from the Irish teams have made it at ITFC so far. Wonder how long before McDonnell goes back.

I think they get homesick. Didn't he go back home a few weeks after coming here?

I thought MM was saying that he would be in the first team?

Either I have misunderstood the comment, or he has fallen off a cliff.

That's yet another player gone. Jas0999 talked about the fact that our squad is considerably smaller this season. We've lost loads of players and brought in very few so our wage bill must allow more players.

I'd say the trimming of the squad3ans we can pay the senior players more money in their contract extensions - of which there have been a few. This is where the Mings money has gone towards. Transfer fees are not where the cost is to Clubs.its the hefty monthly wage bill.

The squad is larger this season, certainly in terms of senior players. I would assume Connolly's exit makes little difference to the overall wage bill as he would have been on peanuts, relatively.

@Phil
Do you know if McDonnell is still rated by MM? He kept mentioning himlast season as one to watch but he hardly ever is on the bench yet alone in the first eleven. If Coke is ahead of him (on the bench) then that seems to me that he has gone way down the pecking order

Id say whats put him down the pecking order is the wingers weve bought, rather than Coke, a central midfielder.

One of the many players Mick has got on the cheap who have not made the grade at PR.
Better to buy just the odd class Marquee player,and try and bring thru a few more youngsters?

Sad to see him move on. MM tactics have evolved this season to 3 up front where the wide players need to be technically and tactically good. Passing and the ability to bring ball inside to play off Murph. Out and out wingers do not really fit in unless they can adapt accordingly as Brett and Freddie have done.

My view is that Connelly and henshall are limited to what they offer tactically and technically, despite their raw pace

Shame we don't blood the youngsters like Bobby did. Not just Mick, Jim Magilton wasted the the last youth cup winning squad

Talking of youngsters, Hyam was apparently excellent against Hull. Ran the midfield for Rotherham.

@Brittaniman
Are you aware there are only 11 players allowed to start each game?
Do you want to settle for lower-mid table and a relegation fight? If so, then let's play our younger players (despite having better players available)....or we could fight for promotion by playing the better (albeit generally older) players.
