No Douglas Red Card Appeal
Monday, 25th Jan 2016 12:21

Town have confirmed that they won't be lodging an appeal against Jonathan Douglas's red card at Birmingham on Saturday.

The 34-year-old, who was dismissed in first-half injury time for a high challenge on Midlanders' winger Will Buckley, now faces a three-match ban.

Luke Hyam looks set to take the summer signing from Brentford's place in the centre of midfield when Reading visit Portman Road a week tomorrow.

Douglas will also miss the away games at QPR on Saturday 6th February and Bristol City a week later.

An awful first touch and then a ridiculous challenge. You'd expect to see that on a Sunday morning over the park - not from a professional footballer.

No surprise there... Not the worst challenge I've seen, but it was a "red card" offence.

Not sure that was the worst offence on the pitch during that game. Amazed that the boot to Fraser's head later in the match wasn't even considered a foul.

Thank god they won't appeal. 3 games without this guy on the pitch makes us significantly better. What a blessing he got sent off.

JimmyP45 - I disagree with that, he's been playing well recently. Adds far more to the team than Luke Hyam in my opinion. Skuse & Hyam partnership has never worked, both clueless going forward.

I like Skuse. He is steady and breaks the play up well and rarely gives the ball away. Hyam is similar but not as good and Douglas is similar and not as good as Hyam. These 3 guys should all competing for one place in the team unless we are going to switch to 4231 which is unlikely to happen any time before the end of 2018 season (or possibly 2020 season). Playing away from home it has worked to some degree as we spend a lot of time trying to win the ball back but playing 2 of those 3 at Portman Road is part of why many of us are bored stupid.

Hyam and Skuse are not the right pairing, we all know this. They're the same player in my view although Hyam is far more tenacious and Skuse has better ball retention. It's either Skuse / Bru or Hyam / Bru.

Heady - been playing well lately. Leeds - bad touch lost us a goal. Preston - constantly passed back 5 yards to defender - did not turn once. Brum - bad touch red card game lost. Please explain how that is playing well?

The worst thing about this is the potential revival of the Skuse/Hyam partnership. It just results in us playing backwards, and even more long balls. Either Skuse or Hyam, but not together. I would like to see Skuse & Bru holding, and Pitman in front of them. Remember how good Pitman was at the head of the diamond at Charlton?

I wouldn't have thought so! Red card all day long. Douglas won't be missed either. He is past his best. What worries me is the centre pairing of Skuse/Hyam. No creativity and hasn't worked in the past. One of them can't play as we need creativity and goals in the centre. Urgently.

Bru in, not Hyam please. Exciting football needed. Hyam and Skuse are fine as long as only one of them is on the pitch at the same time.

I have no problem with Skuse and Hyam together as part of a 3. Our best spell last season involved them in there with either Bru or Bishop.
Not in a 2 tho. Proven not to work in the past.

Gotta say I've been impressed by Hyam since his loan spell. He seems more forward thinking with the ball at his feet, more so than he ever was.

I think it was harsh on Douglas. His foot was slightly raised, but he didn't touch Buckley, who just made the most of it. Annoying.

It's not the only way to measure it, but in terms of results we do best when Skuse, Bru and Douglas are playing.

Based on my reckoning:

Skuse Bru and Douglas have started 5 games winning 3, with 1 Draw and a defeat.

Skuse and Bru have also started 5 games and are undefeated but only recording 1 win.

Skuse and Douglas have started 16 games winning 8, drawing 5 and losing 3.

So, actually it appears we do worst with Skuse and Bru!

braveblue - don't forget before he got the red card, our defence tried to clear the ball only for it to hit Douglas and feed back into the path of their striker to score. Another highlight of his, NOT.

Pleased that there is no appeal I do not want to see any player wearing the Town shirt making a tackle like that!! no excuses he was out of order as a senior pro.

Some usual ridiculous comments on here. Jimmy so its his fault that a defender hits the ball straight at him when clearing the ball is it? Mr Evans. If this is something ud only expect to see on a Sunday morning why are there so many pro players sent off for the same thing. The fact is, they don't deliberately set out to tackle that way, its instinctive. Agree its a daft thing to do but it happens. The beat. Other than wanting a player to miss an extra game( ridiculous), that rule no longer stands to my knowledge. No player has received an extra game ban for some time now. Don't get me wrong guys, I was angry when it happened, and amazed there were fans applauding him off and booing the ref, but he doesn't deserve the usual vitriole of some on here.
