Pringle Expected to Join Blues Ahead of Bristol City Trip
Wednesday, 10th Feb 2016 13:51

Fulham winger Ben Pringle is expected to formalise a 93-day emergency loan with the Blues in time to go into the squad for Saturday’s game at Bristol City. Yesterday, TWTD was first to reveal that Town were moving for the 26-year-old as cover for the injured Ryan Fraser.

The Blues were previously keen on signing Pringle in the summer when he was a free agent having turned down a contract at Rotherham but the 26-year-old opted to join the Cottagers on a two-year deal with an option for a further season.

Since moving to Craven Cottage the Newcastle-born wideman or central midfielder has made 15 starts and three sub appearances, scoring two goals, but his last game was on December 29th, while his most recent start came earlier that month.

Pringle joined the Millers in 2011 from Derby County, having previously been playing in non-league with Newcastle Blue Star, Morpeth Town and Ilkeston Town, after a spell with West Brom’s academy as a youngster. While with Derby he spent time on loan with Torquay.

Pringle, whose set pieces led to both Rotherham’s goals in their 2-0 victory over the Blues in February 2015, made 154 starts and 14 sub appearances for the Millers, scoring 22 goals, and helped them to promotion from League Two as runners-up in 2012/13 and League One via the play-offs in 2013/14.

As with previous loans at this stage of the season, Pringle may join on an initial month before the deal is extended to its full 93 days at a later date to allow a break to ensure he plays as many games as possible during his time at Portman Road.

Meanwhile, Town’s move for free agent ex-Watford wideman Lloyd Dyer is now looking less likely to go through with talks having stalled.

As reported yesterday, the two parties have failed to come to an agreement regarding personal terms following the former West Brom and Leicester man’s Hornets exit last week.

The Blues are two widemen short after the recent departure of Tommy Oar and Fraser having suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday’s game at QPR.

Town boss Mick McCarthy is set to confirm the extent of the on-loan AFC Bournemouth man’s problem at his Thursday pre-match press conference.

We'd best go up automatically now, just so we don't lose him for the playoffs.

Good news, very good cover for Fraser. I can see us reverting back to 2 up top now.
Bart
Chambers, Smith, Berra, Knudsen
Skuse
Bru or Hyam, Pringle
Murphy, Sears

I worry this leaves us very narrow with no natural width, I can see Sears being pushed out wide with the attacking Pringle through the middle. alternatively we could set up more attackingly as:
Bart
Chambers, Smith, Berra, Knudsen
Skuse
AMN Wide players Sears
Bru, Pringle
Murphy
Murphy

Happy on both fronts to Pringle, no to Dyer

wonder if we have any chance of a permanent deal in the summer for Pringle

Strange why Fulham are willing to let him go, clearly Hasselbaink doesn't rate him at all...

We haven't scored as many from corners this season, so lets hope he can change this!

Having seen him play, this can only be a good move.

As for Dyer, stuff him if he can't accept the wages offered. He has hardly played in 3 years so why should he be paid any more than our own players. I am assuming it's wages that is stopping him him coming here.

Hmm... I can't see us being allowed to have Murphy twice in the same side in your second lineup, Mr Evans.

Dyer or Pringle Both at their best would just get in the Colchester side

Bristol City away for Lee Johnson's first home game....... we will need 2 Murphy's (and 2 Sears) if we are going to get anything out of it. An away goal would be nice. I really hope we are more positive against them than we have been recently. Please don't set us up for a 0-0 Mick. Go at them. Now does Pringle know that we are very direct and he might not get to touch the ball for long periods of the game.................

Let's face it he is no replacement for Fraser. He doesn't run at players but crosses from deep at the earliest opportunity. Murphy might be pleased but it doesn't bode well for those of us that want to see the attacking flair that Fraser and Sears both bring to the game. I can see why McCarthy likes him but I can also see why he hasn't featured much for Fulham.

If Dyer wants too much money, forget him and have one of the youngsters on the bench.

Looks like a decent signing, hopefully provide some attacking threat

Just hope he is with us for Bristol(like a home game for me!!) having seen him play on a few occasions he could be the ball carrying player in the middle we need, but then we also need a winger! but with him behind Murphy and Sears who will pull wide and work his nuts off it could just be a match winning combination. COYB.

Decent player but not Fraser and unlikely to play a part in play offs if we get there. He also rejected us in the Summer. Seems like a panic move from a club who lacked ambition in January.

better than Dyer , who i am very pleased could not agree 'personal terms' , does boil down to lack of forward thinking in january , whatever spin anyone wants to put on it

I will bet Fulham are paying most of Pringles wages. As for Dyer I expect he wanted more than the minimum wage. Well done Evans PLC
