Chambo: We're Full of Confidence Ahead of Bolton Clash
Tuesday, 8th Mar 2016 06:00

Skipper Luke Chambers says two league victories in a row have lifted the mood in the camp as Town seek a second successive play-off finish.

Saturday’s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest took Chambers & Co to within one point of sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday and they will be trying to make it three on the bounce at bottom club Bolton this evening.

Chambers, 30, said: “Everyone is full of confidence and looking forward to the next game. Thankfully, we have another one coming up quickly and we seem to enjoy that.

“But to be fair to the lads, it never really wavered when we lost three in a row, which was something new to us over the last three years or so.

“It was a test to go away to Huddersfield and put in a strong defensive performance, which we did, and now it’s two wins after we beat Nottingham Forest at the weekend. And they were two very different performances.

“We came in at half-time on Saturday and amongst ourselves we were happy with the way we had played with the ball.

“Obviously, the gaffer didn’t let us forget that Forest could have had three or four goals in the first half. They had some good chances from good crosses but thankfully we had Bart there when he was needed. After that spell I felt we controlled the game.”

New signing Ben Pringle, whose loan from Fulham has played a huge part in Town’s turnaround, netting both the goals that were enough to defeat both Huddersfield and Forest, while ex-Wolves full-back Kevin Foley made his home debut alongside him in midfield and was most people’s choice as man of the match.

Chambers added: “The gaffer signed Prings because he knows he can score in every game and give us goals from midfield! But seriously, we all knew Ben before he came here because he had played against us for Rotherham and was very, very good in the games between us.

“It has obviously not worked out for him at Fulham but we’re grateful to have him here and it shows what a new addition can do for us. He’s fitted in brilliantly with the lads and he’s enjoying his football again.

“A lot is made of Skusey’s role in the team but Kev’s performance on Saturday was one of the best I’ve seen from a central midfield player in a long time.

“I thought he ran the game, passed the ball forward and was always available, especially for me and Jonas, and he’s been another brilliant addition.

“The gaffer doesn’t always consult me about potential new signings but he has asked me in the past and we had quite a few chats in the summer when we had to do a bit of business — not so much during the January transfer window because he made no secret of the fact that he was happy with where we were.

“Obviously, we have had a few injuries that put us off the track a little bit because it had a part to play in that run of three straight defeats. We’re getting some of the boys back now and there is light at the end of the tunnel for the likes of Teddy Bishop and David McGoldrick.

“We’ve still got Ryan [Fraser] to come back, while Skusey and Cokey are not too far away, so things are looking good for us going forward.”

Best thing a poor player responsible for so many goals against and being teachers pet is to keep quiet.
Concentrate on your fist pumping to try and increase your popularity.

Interesting how happy Chambo was with Foley's performance. Like it was for the fans a midfield performance like that was long overdue.

Penguinblue you're incredibly depressing on every single post. I'm all for expressing your opinions but sometimes you really need to give it a rest. Site score of -85... that says it all.

MM consults Chambers sometimes-heaven help us. All comments coming out of PR sound like spin from a politician so you know it's all BS. How about a statement from Evans
