McCarthy: Feeney to Join Town
Tuesday, 15th Mar 2016 22:21

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Bolton winger Liam Feeney will be joining the Blues on loan for the rest of the season on Thursday.

“He’s at Ipswich, I’ve just seen him, we’ll be signing him on Thursday, it’ll be done,” McCarthy confirmed.

The Blues boss was very impressed with the 29-year-old’s performance against Town for Bolton last week.

“I’d never seen him play up front before but I thought he was different class last Tuesday, I thought he played really well,” he added.

“He can play either side, he’s got real pace, he can stretch the team, stretch the pitch and he’s an experienced Championship player, so that’s a good one for us that.”

Feeney, who is out of contract in the summer, impressed against the Blues during last week’s 2-2 draw at the Macron Stadium.

He started his career in non-league with Hayes and then Salisbury, moving on to Southend (loan), Bournemouth, Millwall, Bolton (loan) and Blackburn (loan) before joining the Trotters on a permanent deal in May 2014.

Feeney's departure may in part have triggered former Trotters' manager Neil Lennon's exit earlier today.

Lennon was reportedly told that the winger - amongst others - was set to move on at a meeting today and the Northern Irishman subsequently left the club by mutual consent.

That's just what we need to keep the current momentum going.

9 to play, 5 at home and one point off the play-offs - just like last year. We'll beat Boro in the play-off semis and then meet Brighton in the final. Start believing.

A loan signing from the team BOTTOM of the division and you lot are happy?
Have you forgotten who you support?
Shame on you.

@ITFCRealist and yet you are no doubt one of the people that want us to sign someone from a LOWER division? Yet a player in OUR division isn't good enough?

That's good news. We really need to add to the squad as was shown by the poor quality football on show tonight, albeit earning us a welcome three points.

Well we're certianly lacking in ANY quality out wide at the moment with AMN gone AWOL and Fraser injured and possibly not returning so I greet him with open arms even if he does come from the Champioship bottom club. Hopefully he'll add something a bit different to our midfield - all the best Liam!

I wish Feeney a successful stay at Town.
We took Skuse from the bottom team, so that's not a gauge.

We were bottom of the league 3 seasons ago and last year some bloke called Murphy was top scorer. There are good players in bad teams. Hell, Leicester were bottom of the Prem last year.

@ITFCRealist We signed Gareth McAuley from the Leicester side that got relegated to League One in 2008. He's not done too bad ey?

Wish him well if it's true.

Been reading Boltons fans view of him. He works really hard but is inconsistent and needs to improve the quality of his final ball.

I note he doesn't have the greatest goal scoring record either.

Taking him on loan is a good way to go, so if he doesn't impress we are not stuck with him, a la Cameron Stewart.

Yes - this is positive all be it mening Fraser probably not coming back
Thought he was decent at Millwall
With him and Dids coming back def sharpen the place up me thinks - Pringle , Foley and him are decent additions of late

At this stage of the season we need the extra push that an incoming player can bring. Even if he does't do it himself it at least adds to the incentive for others to perform and keep their places.

A good move to add to the options.

Just because Bolton are bottom it doe's not mean all their players are poor.He is a very good attacking wide player and could well give us something we are lacking.Give the Lad a chance,he may well turn out to be a winner.👍
