Feeney: I’m Direct, Pacy and Work Hard
Friday, 18th Mar 2016 06:00

Town new boy Liam Feeney has told supporters exactly what they can expect from him when he makes his debut.

That could be in tomorrow’s visit from Rotherham when, depending on results elsewhere, victory for Mick McCarthy’s men could see them climb into the coveted play-off places.

Feeney is still catching his breath after a whirlwind few days that has seen him join on loan for the rest of the season from Bolton, swapping a survival struggle there for the promotion challenge on offer at Portman Road.

The 29-year-old winger said: “I don’t really mind where I play across the forward positions, whether I’m wide or through the middle. I’m happy to go along with what the gaffer wants from me.

“I’m direct, pacy and I like to work hard. Hopefully the fans will see that in the weeks to come and I’ll have a successful spell here.

“My game is to try to get on the ball and be creative with it — run at people, get forward with the ball, try to get shots off and try to get assists.

“That’s what I’ll be trying to bring to the team and when the gaffer calls for me that’s what I’ll be looking to contribute.”

Feeney is likely to feature, perhaps even from the start, against a Rotherham side who still occupy a place in the Championship drop zone but have been buoyed by new boss Neil Warnock’s impact and an impressive haul of 10 points from their last four league fixtures.

Successive wins over Brentford, Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough were followed by last week’s tremendous 3-3 home draw with Derby, a remarkable game in which the Millers trailed 3-0 with just seven minutes left for play.

Feeney reflected on the events of a hectic few days, revealing: “It was on Tuesday just after training when I was told there was a chance I’d be coming down here. I heard the news in a phone call from my agent, who said the two clubs had agreed a deal.

“I went to see the manager, Neil Lennon, after that and it all happened pretty quickly from there. I drove down that afternoon and saw the boys get a good win over Blackburn and I came in on Thursday for my first day’s training.

“It’s strange how things can work out. I was playing against Ipswich last week and before I got the call on Tuesday I was just preparing as usual for Bolton’s game on Saturday against Bristol City.

“Then that night I was down here watching Ipswich beat Blackburn and hopefully I’ll be involved on Saturday against Rotherham.

“That’s how it can go in football and I can only say I’m pleased with the way it has all worked out for me.

“The lads had a difficult game against Blackburn, who never make it easy for you, and when you get to this point in the season they’re not always going to be pretty, free-flowing games.

“It was a good solid win and I thought the lads dominated the game. I like to think I’ll be able to add something to the team and I’m fully fit if the gaffer wants me to start with me on Saturday.

“The decision to come here wasn’t difficult. Obviously, the situation at Bolton isn’t great at the moment and to come into a side that is pushing for promotion is a positive thing. I’m excited about the opportunity and hopefully I can help out.”

Certainly sounds like a MM type player. Works hard and is direct.

Should have added good signing. Could make a big difference.

The big difference here to most other loan signings is that he is fit, not having to wait for 3 months to get fit then going back to his parent club.
Hit the ground running and earn yourself a new contract young man

He could be just what we need to provide some service to our strikers. Provide Murphy and Pitman with crosses, and they will score goals. A lot of our crosses used to come from left back in the days of Mings and before that Cresswell, but since Knudsen took over that has been missing. If Feeney can provide that much needed service perhaps we do have a chance of top six after all?

Sounds like he will fit in well. We need someone who is pacy as it looks like Fraser won't be back. Hopefully he can play on the right as he will be good in front of Chambers. With Pringle on the left it will mean Sears can play in his best position up front.

love it and was decent at Millwall out wide - well done Mick , him Pringle and Foley are decent additions for the final push and with Dids close to coming back and afew teams above us hiting the skids lets push on
Tomorrow will be tough , two old stagers going at it MM vs NW - May need patience but I think with Murph finding scoring touch and Sears down the middle we 'should' have too much

He will surely start on Saturday. Says all the right things in his interview which is what you would suspect from a senior pro. After watching the game Tuesday himself thou he must be more than confident that he can make a difference for us. With reference to a few comments I've heard about this being a Fraser replacement I would have thought it was more a Niles replacement and would expect the former to be back with is soon for a much needed boost of ability.

A good signing, hopefully start for us on the right in a 4.4.2 & hopefully Mick will bring Pringle back in on the left.
Sears & Murp up front sounds good to me!!

Let's just hope the Lad can provide what we have been missing for a long time.He caused us quite a few problems when we played up there the other week,I went and I was very impressed with him.He is match fit I hope so he should be fine to play tomorrow.Lets just hope Sears and Murphy play up front with Pringle on the other wing.A very hard game, but if we play to our best we should win.!He could turn out to be a very good signing. We have a few loan players now who if we sign could turn out to be a real bargain.👍

Sometimes it can take a player like this to come in at the right time and the whole team suddenly clicks. We shall see.

Feeney, Foley. All we need now is Foe and Fum and we'll be the giants of the Championship.

battyblue - bet you've been calling for MM to make some signings. Now he has, and a decent one at that, you still take the chance to have a dig.

12th man - hoofing is kind of direct so that's one of the biggest contradictions you could possibly say!

Good signing this - get the right flank moving.

Get Pringle on the cursed left........

Le Pen... CURSED.
Civelli... CURSED.
Fraser... CURSED.

We've had Quinn/ Tunnicliffe and Tabb shoved wide left, annoyingly not cursed! Weird football.... !

Add Townsend to that list, another left winger who didn't have a great time of it. God our left wing has been an issue for a long long time.

Alan Mahon had a successful spell on that wing aswell thinking about it and we couldn't extend the loan deal!

Just what have we done to deserve this!? Matt Richards was fit aswell when shoved there. Massive tangent but bored at work.

Talk is cheap, you will have my full backing as an Ipswich Town player but i will judge you on your performances, anyone can say what they will do and provide, i would like to see it. Now is the time for players to be heros.

As I said previously when first mooted, that this could give us the impetus needed for top 6 place/

It is nice to get a player who is not only playing well for previous club;but is their star man, unlike most players recently who were cast offs from previous club,or like Foley a free agent who had been without a club for 6 months.

Talking of whom would like to see both Liam and Kevin start tomorrow,at the expense of Hyam and Douglas.
