McGoldrick Returns to Action in U21s
Monday, 21st Mar 2016 13:31

Town have confirmed that striker David McGoldrick will return to action for the U21s when they take on his old club Nottingham Forest at Portman Road this evening (KO 7pm).

McGoldrick, 28, has been out of action since mid-December having suffered a 90 per cent tear to his hamstring.

“Didz has worked really hard to get back and he will be involved for the U21s tonight,” manager Mick McCarthy told the club site.

“If he comes through that OK then hopefully he will be on the bus with us for the Wolves game after the international break.”

McGoldrick has made only eight starts and 11 sub appearances this season, scoring three goals.

Also set to be involved this evening is Needham Market defender Keiran Morphew, who has been back on trial at the club in the last few days.

Admittance - to the Cobbold Stand only - is free for season ticket holders with tickets otherwise priced at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.

Great news on the face of it - I don't normally pray, but just this once I think I will, that he comes out of it unscathed!

Will be good to see him returning... Hopefully comes through with no problems and adds a bit to our options after Easter. Let's face it, we need some!

Please don't rush him back into action. He is an injury prone player and yes, we are crying out for his football brain and vision etc, but just ease him back into the game.

Good luck Didzy, we miss you!

Guess who will be playing vs Wolves then. Smacks of desperation by Mick now if Didsy does play. I hope people are not expecting too much of this injury prone player. I would ge more impressed if Mick commited to playing Pringle, Feeney and Foley untilmthe end of the season.

There is no need to rush McGoldrick back as we have striker options in Murphy, Sears and Pitman, but it's the midfield that needs sorting out! What's the point of all these strikers with no service?

He only wants to get back to first team action so he can put himself in the shop window for the summer. His head is not at Ipswich, his wife and family moved back to the midlands and he spends the majority of his time there. He wants a move and I don't blame him.
I also hear that the lad form Needham has a £10k release clause in his contract that town are not willing to pay.

If we had any clue as to the Club's goals i could qualify this comment, but let's not rush Didz onto that bus to Wolves. Maybe a bit of substitute action at home, where he has not been knotted up on a coach for hours, will be fine.

As far as i can tell, we decided not to take a genuine run at promotion at Xmas with our attitude to the transfer window when we were very much in the mix for a second year. If that is the case, then let Didz rest, get strong for next season and give a kid or 3 a game. Anything is better than loan players or more injuries which we would carry into the close season.

With a proper rest for Murphy (surely he and Didz can't expect much game time at Euros on current form), a fit Didz and Bish, contracts for Pringle and/or Feeney and/or Foley PLUS 2/3 young guns who have already tasted league football.....then who knows next season.

But do we want promotion even the ? ......I do, my 11 yr old does, but don't ask me what MM or ME wants, I genuinely have no clue there.

Portman Terroist -
Any suggestions for the back 4? I think that is where we struggle most, we have 4 players at the back who are scared of being on the ball and can't pass.
I would prefer ME to come out with a 5 year plan, take the pressure off and get in a young manager with innovative ideas. I hate this "we'll take each game and each season as it comes, and hope for the best." approach. I'd prefer a manager that will give youth a progressive route into the first team and make the right signings. Oh for another 90's George Burley! I feel as a supporter of this club I am being fed BS and being short changed.

Looks like a bargain game to go and watch for free or £3, I'd love to be there.

And imagine being Keiran Morphew; from Needham Market to playing alongside Didz! Fingers crossed for both.

Good news, but ultimately will he be match fit? Has his injury problems and unlikely to play all of next season. Let's hope we plan accordingly.

He's trained so would like to see him on at start then subbed with youth taking over. No point in pushing him too soon. Trouble for MM is that he has his best options for defenders out on loan but I'd still liek to see him intro players that will pass and move forwards and not the dross served up last game

Really hope he comes through unscathed. Unfortunately I won't be suprised if he gets injured again in the near future - a 90% hamstring tear sounds like a nasty injury that may reoccur...

On another note, hope Morphew impresses again and goes on to be another Mings!

god knows what to write ,i want to write something that is positive but all i can think of is MM telling him run the channels ,harry and scrap ,put your foot in , track back etc.
