Wickham and Delaney Help Palace to FA Cup Final
Sunday, 24th Apr 2016 19:33

Former Town striker Connor Wickham scored the winning goal as a Crystal Palace side also featuring ex-Blues centre-half Damien Delaney beat Watford 2-1 in this afternoon's second FA Cup semi-final at Wembley to reach the final.

Town academy product Wickham netted a header in the 61st minute, Yannick Bolasie having put the Eagles ahead on six, Delaney claiming an assist with a flick, before Troy Deeney equalised for the Hornets 10 minutes after the break.

Palace will face Manchester United in a repeat of the 1990 final at Wembley on Saturday 21st May.

Meanwhile, Town academy schoolboy Dylan Crowe played the first 62 minutes for the England U15s as they beat Italy 3-2 in their opening game at the Torneo delle Nazioni in Gradisca D’Isonzo earlier this evening.

England face Russia and Qatar in their two other group games as they look to reach the semi-final and then final.

Players have left us that should not of been allowed to, Imagine wick ham and rhodes as our front two , delaney and macally in central defence , cress well as left back , new rightback , 4 midfielders. Keep Bialowski in goal. We've wasted more money than have sold these guys for on rubbish. Shows what we could of had

Keane ruined him. He was far better under Jewell. Really pleased for him - Captain of a team in the FA Cup Final, a competition we wanted to win.........

Personally I always thought Delaney as a bit of a liability. One of those cases where you wonder "how the hell can he be a regular in a premier league team' Maybe it is a case of 'horses for courses' or perhaps being alongside a more reliable defence?

What are you going to do, Bluefeast, keep them in a dungeon? Like the club, they have a choice where they choose to work too.

Keane in particular and Jewell managed to let go several players who are still plying their trade at a higher level than we currently stand. I appreciate some were for financial reasons but others were just plain bad managerial decisions.
I agree with bluefeast - just think where we could have been with Walters, Rhodes, Wickham, Delaney and McAuley plus couple of decent buys. Maybe the nation would be backing ITFC to win the premier league title instead of Leicester City.
Before you dismiss the idea Burley got us to 5th place in 2000/2001 before it all went tits up - you got to believe.

Nice to see Conor doing well in the bpl at last. When he left us it was the right thing for his career and we were well compensated for it. It's just a shame it's taken him a couple of years to get a consistent run of games, maybe we'll see him in a blue shirt again in a few years time.

As for delaney I always saw him as one of those players that was only spoken about if he did something wrong and a lot of his good defensive work went under appreciated.

Good luck to the both of them

I seem to remember loads of people having a go at Delaney on here when he was with us...

Delaney was used as a left back and was vulnerable. When him and GMac were centre backs they were quite a good partnership.

Always thought we let 2 many good players leave under previous 2 managers. Delaney was signed as a left back and was poor but was a good centre half and formed a good partnership with Macauley. Remember him having a good left foot. Good luck to him and Wickham .

I liked Delaney, regular under RK, but not rated by PJ. The decision to get rid of him wasn't the bad one, it was doing so when we literally had no cover. That was PJ at his brilliant best!

Shows what a cr@p (15) season(s) it has been when the most positive article of the year is how well some players who used to play for us have done. Good luck Conor & Damien in the final.

I would have Leadbitter in for Colback, but not to take set pieces.

I wish them all the very best and hope that they enjoy their Cup Final at Wembley.
The demise of our team was the fault of Keane and Jewell who let some of our best players go.
Unless there is a drastic change for next season , I fear that we will just stagnate in the Championship for the unforeseable future!

Fans don't help as the slated Delaney on here, so why would stay at club when the fans think your crap.
Scowcroft, Leadbetter, even Richard Wright and Naylor....... Now it's just about the whole team
Sell Murphy as he only got 10 this year.... Berra starting to get some stick now..... Well just about the whole team now

Face facts with the money in the Prem Town will never be able to compete we would get hammered most weeks, let's get a side that plays good football and flirts with the play offs

None of us are surprised at Wickham, he's probably underachieved of anything but Damien Delaney in the FA Cup final?! Come on now behave!
