McCarthy: Loanee Grant So Versatile Tuesday, 11th Oct 2016 06:00 Blues manager Mick McCarthy says he’s pleased to have versatile season-long loanee Conor Grant in his squad but says the Everton man is currently being kept out of the side by the form of other players.
Grant, 21, joined the Blues at the start of August but has made only three starts and two sub appearances so far with a groin injury having sidelined him for a month.
McCarthy says the former England U18 international can play anywhere across the midfield but in addition to the injury has seen his opportunities limited by the form of other players.
“He can play any one of them, I think,” the Town boss said. “In a three in the middle, but bearing in mind Skusey and Dougie have been playing so well, Kevin Bru has.
“He could play in a 4-4-2 when we’ve got two up top, he did against [Derby]. If you’ve got two up top I think he can play in a four. He’s a versatile player and it’s nice to have that type, to be honest with you.”

The Scotland job will be available soon. Hopefully, a return North of border will be too good an offer to refuse. Fingers crossed

All I can say is that if we don't perform against Blackburn on Saturday its going to be pretty poisonous at PR on Tuesday night.

MM is making these outrageous comments twice a month now, just to wind up us fans, its as clear as day. The week in between, he wheels out some reluctant 'player' to give his carefully scripted b......cks about how we are going to turn a corner soon. He is such an ignorant arrogant pig, im having nothing to do with this club again until he is gone, and Evans too. The owner just doesnt want to spend anymore money, just enough to keep us afloat, and use the club for his business interests. MM i s quite happy to jog along, on £1 million a season, winding up us carrot crunchers every time we have a go at the team. He couldnt care less. We are too laid back as fans, we need to organise plans to get rid of MM asap, placards, banners, flags whatever it takes, but this silent atmosphere at PR is no good, and a bit of booing at the end is futile. We should be chanting all game, get him out. The big clubs shift managers almost overnight, but we are too quiet. Organise yourselves, the time is NOW

Jeez, if ever there were a short article to sum things up, this undoubtedly is it! How much more of this do we have to put up with? Could the man that 'rescued ' us from relegation a few years ago be the one that does eventually take us down! It's not beyond the realms of imagination, is it!!!!!

Phil probably couldn't believe his luck when he got that quote.

Totally agree bings. If we make a statement we can get him gone. A club is nothing without its fans and that arrogant fool is driving them away. He must be smoking sum serious stuff if he thinks his midfield is on good form!!!!!!

To be honest I think even words are failing us who are MM fans. As far as I'm aware Connor Grant is a set piece specialist. Surely in a team that doesn't score any goals you need to try and create opportunities any way that you can and use everything available to you? We've received 3 million for Murphy and with that brought in a whole load of loan players who aren't even playing in favour of Douglas, Best and Varney. It's so embarrassing!

You fools MM is a football genius, he is as honest as the day is long. He may come across as arrogant but that is only to hide his insecurity, which has been caused by fans at clubs he has managed previously calling for him to leave after results went against him. It was nothing to do with him refusing to realise that players who were out of form retaining their places at the expense of others was a recipe for disaster, it was the fans fault for not worshipping him at every home game and casting aspersions on his ability to send out a team to try to win a game. You should be ashamed of yourselves, naughty people! Now repeat after me "in Mick we trust", either that or you can keep criticising his ineptitude, which ever takes your fancy, I still find more entertainment on this site than any match with MM the manager!!!

Just read this article and finding it hard to stop laughing at big thicks skuse and douglas joke.......absolute genius thick......tell us another one. The great news is that he'll be around for the next couple of years to keep telling these side splitters, as until his contract runs out or we get relegated, i doubt he's going anywhere.... I don't think our so called ambitious owner will ever be quite ambitious enough to pay him to leave.

A friend of mine in the game who is a close friend of Micks has confirmed to me what we all know . His ethos is 'don't get beat' , be competitive and combative. This will obviously go a long way to keeping you in a division ( Tony pulls has done the same ). So you can see why Mick would say such ridiculous comments but it is what he genuinely believes. We are going nowhere fast with him at the helm but I think we all know how stubborn he is and he will not change for anyone . Saying things like this just make him look stupider than he is ( and that's saying something). I travel 400 round trip , spend over 6 hours in the car for each home game costing a small fortune as well. Does Mick saying this encourage me to do it week after week . After 40 years , I'll obviously have to check my own sanity if I do

Oh dear...one things to not achieve results and start the season very average but then to talk absolute cobblers to the press is another. STOP taking the p*ss out of the supporters Mick.

Ridiculous comment by Mick. Very very very important game coming up. If we lose against Blackburn we are on our way to being sucked into an unnecessary relegation battle. Have we got the creative players to score goals to get us out of that battle? I am not so sure.... For the sake of our football club we need a result against Blackburn...even if it's our usual turgid 0-0 draw. I think Mick realises that and will go with our usual 7-3-1 formation, with Bru, Skuse and Douglas sitting just in front of our two centre backs. Bad time for being an Ipswich fan, makes you wish you supported another club. 17 live games I have been too without us scoring a SINGLE goal. No longer look forward to matches with good reason, talk afterwards is always about "wow, that save Bart pulled off at 20 was unreal" or "whooa...we really managed to GRIND out that 0-0 didn't we". The performances of all our players (except Bart) are simply not acceptable, Bart is unbelievable and Harts performance for England reminded me of Barts performances game after game for this club. The most unacceptable part of our performances is the fact that we time waste when it's 0-0 or even when we are 1-0 down. Time wasting is never acceptable unless there is a few minutes left in the match. Deliberate time wasting 3 or 4 mins into a match is a disgrace.

Love it when McCarthy goes on the wind-up. He'd laughing his head off if he saw this reaction.

@Goon quote "Love it when McCarthy goes on the wind-up. He'd laughing his head off if he saw this reaction." If he is laughing and that is how he treats the club and its followers then he should be bl00dy ashamed of himself and be booted out of his job forthwith. The Man's an inept disgrace.

My God!!! Then play the man and give him a chance!!!!!. Clear the midfield of defensive minded dross and let us celebrate youth and creativity and (whisper it )maybe a few goals. A12 or A14 your choice Mick but please please take one.

At Blackburn nothing will change..get used to it. Stopped going to see Town play in March because of the TERRIBLE football and I have seen many highs and lows but the poverty of our play drove me away and my son stopped following them too. Will not go back until we get a football playing manager who plays the Ipswich way.Someone turn out the lights..

Well what can I say...a news story and a statement from MM that has had the effect of uniting 4 pages worth of TWTD comments!!!! For too long there have been those defending the dour, negative, tedious team selection and tactics, but even they now appear to be accepting that time for change has well and truly come.
big_gaz67 added 09:13 - Oct 13
Phil, does TWTD get to be there when these quotes are made and get to challenge them on behalf of subscribers to the site? Just to report these quotes without them being challenged seems to me against the concept of fanzine web sets. TWTD sits in a unique position, the overriding majority of TWTD posters appear to be demanding more attractive football and with some press access TWTD has an opportunity to put these views to the management. I repetitively asked before for a specific question to be asked as to whether MMc receives a percentage of transfer profit because in my view it is becoming more and more apparent that he is nest feathering, starting with the seven figure sum he deserved for keeping us up and perhaps with bonuses from the Mings and Cresswell transfers. A few years ago I suggested, and received I've forgotten now how many negative marks, that rather than sell the club to Evans we should have gone into liquidation, taken relegation and then rebuilt from the bottom up using academy players wherever possible. My view hasn't changed - I wonder if others have?.......

I keep looking back to this article thinking that i must have dreamt it...but nope there it is in black and white If there arent at least two changes to the starting line up against Rovers we are going to slide into a relly dogfight this year

Unbelievable to think MM actually thinks they're in good form. Bru always looked promising but since he's been here he's never performed. I think Skuse is a very decent player and would always have him in the team, Douglas however is a joke, technically awful on the ball, lacks any physicality and is shocking going forward and back. I honestly can't see where MM is coming from saying they are in good form, its a joke! Connor Grant looked very decent the first few games of the season but hasn't been given a chance since? Obviously because he doesn't fit MM's style of just hoofing the ball up the pitch every chance you get. Furthermore Bishop should be starting by now, by far the best midfielder at the club and he's still on the bench every game because Mick is protecting him? He's been back long enough now to be fully fit surely? Even the likes of Dozzell should be getting a chance, a player with great potential who doesn't even get into our midfield must be worried. Wouldn't be surprised if he moved on soon. Mick has lost the plot.
