Town Sign Macclesfield Winger Friday, 27th Jan 2017 21:30
Town have announced the signing of Macclesfield winger Danny Rowe for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old has signed a contract until the summer of 2020 with an option for a further season.
“It’s been a hectic few days,” Rowe told the club site. “I was told that Ipswich were interested in me earlier in the week and I drove down today once I was told it had all been agreed.
“It’s an exciting move for me, joining a massive club like Ipswich and I can’t wait to get going.
“I know I have a lot to prove but I’ll be working as hard as I can to show everyone what I can do."
Manchester-born Rowe, whose elder brother Tommy plays for Doncaster, was with the Bolton Wanderers academy as a youngster but broke into senior football with Stockport County in 2009 during the Hatters' time in League One.
Rowe, who is left-footed but often operates on the right, moved on to Barrow in July 2012 before joining Macclesfield the following summer. After a spell out of the game, Rowe returned to the Silkmen at the start of 2015 and since then has been a regular for the Vanarama National League side.
In total he made 119 appearances for the Cheshire club and has scored 15 goals, eight of them in his 28 starts and two sub appearances this season.
Barnet recently had a £100,000 offer for Rowe, while Derby, Rotherham, Walsall and Port Vale have also been reported to have been showing interest.
He added: “I made my debut in the Football League for Stockport against Leeds at Elland Road and it’s a fantastic feeling to be back to that level again.
“Macclesfield have been great for me and I’d like to thank everyone there for helping me progress as a player.”
Rowe will meet up with the rest of the squad at Preston tomorrow but won’t be involved against the Lilywhites.

Whilst I don't like it, the reality is we can't financially compete with the bigger clubs in this division. We therefore need signings like this to work and either push us on or be sold a year or 2 for big profit. Good luck Danny, hope you can make the most of your dream opportunity!
Must think fairly highly of him, to give him a 3 and a half year contract with the option of another one. We've not done that long acdeal for a long while, have we? Hope he steps up well and we've unearthed a good'un.
Happy with this. The lad looks like he has pace and a few tricks. He might need a while to adjust at the higher level but he's got time on his side and hopefully he'll be given a fair chance to prove himself. Much rather we sign young hungry players like this with potential to develop rather than over the hill has beens the wrong side of the 35!
Had anybody mentioned him being linked, proves when some people get wound up by who we are with they should wait until a player is confirmed before venting their feelings
Welcome Danny, maybe it is because I read Roy of the Rovers when I was a kid but there is something exciting about signing young lower league players and seeing them do well. I remember the fuss when we signed Johnny Walters from Chester people were saying he wouldn't make it.....well he's not done bad for himself has he? Any change at the moment is a good one keeping picking up gems in the lower leagues Town, lets show the money boys how it can be done!!
Best of luck mate...worth a punt, but unfortuantely McCarthy's record with unproven young/youngish wingers since he's been here is not great.
All the best though, hope you get the chance to prove yourself rather than just 1 game or a few substitutions and then being wheeled off to a lower league club.
All we need now are a right back,2 central midfielders who can pass the ball forwards and a striker worthy of wearing the number 9 shirt....oh and a new manager and coaching team.
Shame we haven't got a Manager who can develop these type of players after signing them - instead of ruining them by playing them out of position, and coaching the attacking flair out of them in favour of 'defending'.. !!

Welcome Danny Boy - Good Luck to you, you may well need it - especially if show any sign of flair - OR if you dare to have a different opinion on anything to McCarthy.
Meet the McCarthy criteria - and you may become a favourite ....... !! - which means you will be a good bloke - and on the team sheet anyway.
Best wishes - hope it all works out for you at the Club.
I've been as guilty as anyone else with the negativity lately but at least the signings we are making are what was promised ... young hungry players from the lower leagues with fees being spent but the bank not being broken. Like a few posters have said i'd rather we took a punt on a player like this than spend 250k on a loan fee for someone elses promising youngster who will go back in a years time and not benefit us at all.
If i see more signings like this and some of the old guard moved on at the end of the season, along with some positivity on the pitch i will see light at the end of the tunnel and even be open to Big Mick not leaving ......... am i drunk ??
Very well Said @Keaneish, you echo my own sentiments almos tto the letter.
Other than that the only other thingie I would like to add is that Abbott & Costello II (i.e. MM & ME) sure continue their **exquisite** cherry-picking from the very "Top Shelve" this transfer window -- despite all those other amusing but fairly Utopian-like "linked with" stories -- don't they know? :-) ROFL
Sincerely good luck to you Danny ... and regardless of your offensive talents I feel you really got need exactly luck to make a so called "breakthrough" here for as long as archaic MM &TC are running things! ... and I also hope you are seriously ready (more ready than many of your departed or frozen-out predecessors anyway!!!) to take what in local Mick McCarthy lingo is known as a proper "SHIFT"! ... but don't worry if your are not yet familiar with the exact local meaning of that particular word on these Dinosauric longitudes, cause you surely will get the hang of said meaning in no time here! :-)
Good luck to you Danny and I hope it all works out for you at ITFC.
A few things:
Barnet being the only serious contender for him means very little. Perhaps he wasn't on the radar of other clubs?
Fans have been screaming for "a non-league gem", "young", "creative". He's stepping up a fair few leagues but he's all of above.
On the lighter side, agree with MicksZzztactics regarding what he needs to get used to. "putting in a shift" will be one of the key terms as will "grind it out for a 0-0". Hope he doesn't hear the term "hoof it forwards" too much but you never know.
Given our financial situation, these are the right kind of players to be looking at.
Yes MicksZzzz ....... if the lad can 'put in a shift' he could become 'different class' and if he is happy to run his heart out chasing long balls over the top from our defence he might even reach the pinnacle of MM's lexicon and join the class of 'proper blokes' ........ More seriously I hope that he can adjust and become a great success.
lighteningboy, miltonsnephew . Why do u say we need a rb? We've already signed one, he played last Sat and was by all I've heard, the best player on the pitch for us. Devereuxxx. Spot on. U said same thing after we signed the striker last week. Just think some on here simply want to be negative about everything. Come on guys, we're all pretty negative about the way things are going right now. None more than Me. Just allow used a bit of positivity. I wonder if the Leicester fans were as negative when they signed Vardy from non league
