Forest and Robins Linked With Spence
Monday, 1st May 2017 16:51

Bristol City and Nottingham Forest are reportedly keen on Town right-back Jordan Spence, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Spence, 26, joined the Blues in January having been a free agent after his release by the MK Dons last summer and having spent time on trial at Playford Road and with a number of other Championship clubs earlier in the season.

Since signing a short-term contract to the end of the season Spence has established himself in the Town starting line-up and has now made 16 starts.

Blues boss Mick McCarthy has said he has been impressed with the former West Ham trainee’s performances and will talk to him and his agent at the end of the season.

Spence has similarly said he has enjoyed his time at Town and would like to stay, most recently at Saturday’s Player Awards Evening.

However, according to HITC Sport, Town face competition for the former England U21 international full-back’s signature from Sunday’s final day opponents Forest and the Robins, where Spence previously spent two spells on loan during 2010/11 and 2011/12.

If we wanted to keep him, why wasn't a deal offered months ago?

Chambers may regret saying he didn't want to go back to RB...

Jas0999 - because months ago we didn't know what league we'd be in or who our manager will be. The latter we still don't.

Spense is a must, was very impressed with him on the occasions I saw him play. His quick, good vision and hard working and can pass a ball!! Im wondering if we could push him forward as a winger as he can put in a decent cross. This would also accommodate Josh at R/B in what I hope will be a flat back 4.

Wow competition from Forest and Bristol city(please take Skuse back but I don't think Lee Johnsons that stupid) that means we have no chance!! should have been sorted by now but then we are talking about the mystery(tax loss for the empire which Mick has been so well paid to assist) that was once Ipswich Town FC.

A 26 year old comes in, impresses on trial, signs, does well, establishes a place in the first team... what more can he do to earn a contract? I would say the lad needs to know where he will be playing next season so he and his family can plan their life.

Easy decision. McCarthy stays - Spence should go. McCarthy goes Spence stays. He's a young lad,he doesn't need McCarthy holding him back.

Credit to McCarthy for getting Spence in this season. He has been a good addition to the squad.

We should sign him to strengthen the squad re the comment from Chambers that he does not want to play at right back(and rightly so) means that in Micks eyes he is no longer a proper bloke and I fully expect the premiership class Cole Skuse to be skipper next season9to take us into div1) to teach him a lesson for upsetting our great leader!!!

I don't know if I'd be too upset if he didn't sign on. While he is currently a better player than Emmanuel, I'd quite like to see Emmanuel become a regular, as he's looked ok most of the time when played and would probably have lower wages.

ronfearonshair... he was on trial here earlier in the season but MM didnt sign him as we had Chambers so was not taken on, why no one took him i dont know, but he was still available when MM's hand was forced due to injury!

MM out!

Get him signed up, he's improved since he's been here and can play Full Back and Wing Back. He's young, can pass and make space...having said that he can't hit a ball into Constantine Road, so he's not a proper bloke!

No need to panic. Spence is under contract until 30 June. He cannot sign for anyone until 01 July. At the end of the day he will decide his future based on whatever offers are on the table at that time. Ours, if we decide to make one, might be the most attractive, but if Bristol or Forest offer better terms then we must understand that he would almost certainly accept them. Of course we can offer a contract extension now but there is little point signing up players now if there is even the remotest chance of a change in the manager. That said, in my view, he has shown enough to believe that he is worthy of a competitive contract offer before others can make one. But who knows?

Ronfearonshair... you don't know what you're talking about. Too many clueless fools like you on here and in the terraces at Portman Road. MM turned Spence away, until he was desperate.

Diggers, Coke, Best and Dougie on the other hand..........

If he was that good why didn't a Div 1 club want to keep him. Just shows how far down we have come

He's been good, should be offered terms. Square peg, square hole- you'll get more effective results

Gemini and all the MM lovers stop keep quoting lack of funds!!!!

One example is Chambers at RB for 3 seasons, spence comes along and first time around is rejected because we have a RB ( proper bloke ) in Chambers, spence comes in when MM 's hand is forced through injury.

We lost lots of games because of that flaw at RB, he fills the midfield with defensive rubbish to compensate. All you MM lovers please explain that away, if you can!!!!!
