Tunnicliffe Still on Town Radar
Saturday, 1st Jul 2017 14:27

Former loanee Ryan Tunnicliffe remains on Town’s radar TWTD understands, despite Tom Adeyemi joining the Blues on a free transfer yesterday.

As reported a fortnight ago, the Blues are one of a number of clubs keen on the 24-year-old, who is a free agent following his release by Fulham.

Tunnicliffe previously spent time on loan with the Blues in the first half of the 2013/14 season when with Manchester United, making 24 starts and five sub appearances without scoring.

The Heywood-born midfielder, who we understand would be keen on a permanent move to the Blues having enjoyed his time at Portman Road, was due to stay with Town for the whole season but was sold to Fulham in the January window.

Tunnicliffe’s last game for the Cottagers was in October last year and he joined Wigan for his second loan spell with the Latics in January, making eight starts and two sub appearances, scoring once.

When with United - for whom he made only two League Cup sub appearances - the former England U16 and U17 international was also on loan at Peterborough and Barnsley, while his first stint with Wigan came at the end of 2013/14 shortly after joining Fulham and he spent the first half of the following campaign at Blackburn.

Elsewhere, League One Charlton are reported to have joined the chase for free agent former Southampton winger Lloyd Isgrove.

Last month, TWTD revealed that the Blues and the 24-year-old’s former loan side Barnsley were both keen on the Wales international.

The Addicks currently have former Town winger Cameron Stewart, who was released by the Blues last summer, on trial.

Town are expected to confirm the season-long loan signing of 20-year-old Manchester City winger Bersant Celina over the weekend in time for the now traditional Irish pre-season training camp at the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare.

However, we understand the Blues are keen to add another new wide player to the squad.

Hyam (when fit) > Tunnicliffe

Wouldn't surprise me as Mick likes to have 7-8 midfielders in the squad so he can make changes after 60 mins. That's what we had in 14/15. Tunnicliffe showed some promise when here but needs to get his career back on track. He's an upgrade on Douglas and decent enough for 10-15 starts.

I can see Bru hanging around for a year in the same way Tabb did. i.e. lots of golf and no football.

Get Isgrove in,he's fast, young and hungry. A good player.

I would love Isgrove here, good little player. If we don't get him though, Henry from wolves is a good option, always liked him. Not sure if we've been linked?

Prefer Isgrove 1st. Don't mind Tunniclife as a squad member for cover but Imagine he wants to go somewhere and play.

Not 1st choice though.

Lloyd Isgrove - yes please, this is a no brainer in my opinion. Tunnicliffe i'm not to sure on, i still fancy Hyam and Bishop in holding positions in midfield with Isgrove McGoldrick and Ward in a three infront with Sears upfront (4-2-3-1)

Not overly impressed. More power up front would be my priority.

You can never have too much stodge in MM's view : 4 lumps of it in midfield will be his way forward ... or even sideways.

I think we still need a proven goal scorer and that will cost!

If we keep bringing in midfielders then some of our existing ones must surely be on their way. Douglas is already gone but a few of the others must be looking nervously over their shoulders!

Let's hope the radar has broken!

I'd be disappointed if we signed him. Not an inspiring signing, would he add anything to our midfield? Hard working yes, but does he add extra quality and creativity which is needed....no!

Agree with christiand not good enough.
Up the bid for Mcgin ,maybe go back in for Hugill now their gaffers gone, and another decent centre back and we are sorted.

Quick question for the fans- who would you rather have skuse or tunnicliffe? For me it's tunnicliffe as he's more mobile and better on the ball.

Don't need him, we are flooded with competition now for CM's which is great. Skuse, Huws, Adeyami, Bishop, Dozzell, Bru. look at other areas of the pitch we're we don't have options, Strikers and wingers Lloyd Isgrove is a must, bersant Celina who has never played in the championship and Danny Rowe will not get through a full season, both good players but need more options.

I would rather have neither and can see Hyam with others going out on loan or being made available.Mick needs more room for further signings

Absolute joke of this happens.

If there is any truth to this then likely to be the end of the approach for McGinn I would think. Would give us Skuse, Hyam, Tunners holding, Huws, Adders, Bish more forward with help from Doz and Nydam. Surely that's enough numbers wise. Wide midfielder likely to be next signing I would think. I get the impression we are likely to see how Taylor does pre season before bolstering the defence and Pitman may need to go before bringing in another striker.

If he's this years Douglas/Coke etc
He's a vast improvement imho, he could actually develop a bit

The McGinn thing was dead when we signed Huws. MM has since said that we need to sell to buy. It won't happen unless we rake in some money and there isn't too much prospect of that unless someone takes a punt on Bru or the Knudsen thing happens. Even if we sell Knudsen we will need to replace him and look at another striker. We don't know how good Garner is going to be for us yet, he could be a Murphy or a Chopra (Ie: Murph scored nout before then a hatful for us and Chops did the opposite) but there isn't a lot of depth up top.

As for Tunnicliffe, I don't think we should judge him on his performances when he was 19 and on loan here. He was ok but a 24 year old is a very different prospect. Not that many on here rated Jack Colback but he's earning more than any current town player!

Really don't rate him. We now have Huws, Adeyemi, Skuse, Bishop and Hyam in central midfield. Think we should be looking more at creative attackers who can fill in for when McGoldrick gets injured. Still think we're 4 or 5 signings away from being much better than last season.
