Four Strikers Start at Burton
Saturday, 28th Oct 2017 14:17

Town boss Mick McCarthy has named an attacking line-up for this afternoon’s game at Burton featuring all four of his frontline strikers, David McGoldrick, Joe Garner, Martyn Waghorn and Freddie Sears.

The Blues could line-up in the 4-4-2 system which saw them to victory in a number of their early season games or in a 4-2-3-1 formation with McGoldrick, Sears and Waghorn behind Garner.

Tom Adeyemi, who has suffered with a recurrence of his hamstring injury, is the man to drop out of the team for Sears, while Kevin Bru is on the bench for only the third time this season.

For Burton, former Blues striker Luke Varney and ex-loan keeper Stephen Bywater are among the subs.

Burton: Ripley, Warnock, Allen, McFadzean, Buxton (c), Turner, Murphy, Lund, Akins, Dyer, Sordell. Subs: Bywater, Flanagan, Naylor, Varney, Palmer, Akpan, Barker.

Town: Bialkowski, Spence, Webster, Chambers (c), Knudsen, Skuse, Nydam, Sears, Waghorn, McGoldrick, Garner. Subs: Gerken, Iorfa, Celina, Connolly, Ward, Downes, Bru. Referee: Simon Hooper (Wiltshire).

Four strikers playing but nobody to supply them, pmsl! What has Celina done wrong ffs?

Positive line up and not surprising to be honest against a bottom 3 side...Mick certainly wouldn't start all 4 of the above strikers against against a top half side.
Wouldn't surprise me at all if Mick tells Chambers and Webster to 'hoof' to them and basically by pass the midfield.

A game we should win. but Burton have the ability to cause an upset at home.

Poor poor Celina. He offers a hell of a lot more than Sears does.

Celina in a few years is going to be playing at a high level imo. I don't think we will be!!

Agree about Celina...

I think the world has to stop spinning before Celina will get in the starting 11 under the current manager.

When Celina started he did very little. His runs are exciting but he invariably loses the ball. A great goal scored but very little else in my opinion. That said if he does come on he will probably have a cracker and prove me wrong. Hope so.

I feel a bit for Ward. Especially after he murdered Norwich last year and didn't get a look this year.

Lots of responsibility on Nydam
Will Sears or Waghorn play on the right - whoever has Waghorn in front of him needs to be on his game - Waghorn provides questionable cover

This is an awful team lineup, given the players that are available. Why can't we get a balanced side with Celina and Ward on the flanks? And why do we have 2 right sided defenders on the bench when there are already 3 on the pitch? Where is Smith? Where is Kenlock?

Didn't see Celina doing a lot more than anyone else when he came on last week . Why would he be in the team ?

Bert.

If Celina comes on today it will because we are a goal down and Burton will have built a brick wall across the box. Much like it was last Sunday.

It will then be very hard for him to make an impact and will probably be double marked.

The guy has never been given a fair go.

Same as Tommy Oar and Johnny Parr.

Nice team, feel as if we can win this game and we have to!! Celina not starting is a disappointment for me but other than that we have a good chance in this. Remember, Sears scored twice against Burton last season, hopefully he will do it again. I predict a 4-2-3-1. COYB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tika Taka stuff expected today then.

Win or Lose, same old one dimensional tactic. If we play any sort of decent football today it won't be because of the manager with a line up like that.

A brick wall that has let goals in pretty regularly over past few weeks , if he cant score against Burton then what is he doing at man city

Don't forget Sears scored in both games against Burton last season! If we score first and early could see a few goals !

MM gone back to early season plan against what he perhaps believes is a poor team. Doesn't look balanced as I too would have started Celina instead of Sears and found room for Downes. Still hoping for win though.

Why does MacArthy ever buy wingers? They never get a look in. Yes 4 strikers looks attacking but at least 2 of them are playing out of position. What's the matter with Celina, Ward or even Rowe. As for the defence drop Chambers, move Webster over & put Knudsen in the centre with Kenlock at left back.

So he slags off the fans (see Ipswich star) for asking him to play 442 more and then plays 442...

No respect, no new ideas, move on please

I don't understand why Ward can't get into the team, he is fairly quick, he is good on the ball, good at set plays. You could even play him at right back. I am not MM hater but some of his team selections beggar believe.

Muccletonjoe

If Mick had started him today and shown some faith i would expect a decent performance from him.

But mick clearly hasnt shown any faith in him and no doubt his confidence will be suffering.

3 points today and onwards snd upwards!

Should be more 5han strong enough to beat Burton. Why on Earth we didn't show more intent in matches against the better teams is beyond me. Let's not make this any more than it is - MM selecting an attack minded line up against a team who will probably be relegated, in a match where we ought to win very comfortably.

Great but Celina for Sears for me.

At least there is some sort of intent there

muccletonjoe I have down marked you because I presume you are talking about Bersant Celina;but he isn't starting and wont be able to score unless he is given time on the pitch by the Dino.

This sums McCarthy up he always picks players like Skuse but rarely a player of ability like Celina.Bersant has already given the impression that he is unhappy with not getting much time on the grass, and could well go back to City at the end of the year(recent tweet}.

The Manager cant handle criticism of any sort;and if a player dares to put his head above the trench, then its curtains for them.

I am afraid the same fate will befall the Kosovan that did for Tommy Roe and Jonny Parr,as the arrogant and childish McCarthy only likes yes men in his side

Sears before Celina. Please just go.
