Town Among Clubs Linked With Fleetwood Striker
Friday, 5th Jan 2018 19:20

Town are one of a number of clubs claimed to be showing interest in Fleetwood striker Devante Cole, who is in the final six months of his contract with the Cod Army.

According to Football Insider, Scottish giants Rangers, Championship quartet Sheffield United, Birmingham, Ipswich and Reading, and League One Wigan are all eyeing the 22-year-old, who is the son of former England international Andy, with a view to landing him for a cut-price fee.

Cole junior has scored 12 goals this season having joined the League One club from Bradford in January 2016.

The 6ft 1in tall frontman, who has been capped by England at U16, U17, U18 and U19 levels, started his career with Manchester City and spent spells on loan at Barnsley and with the MK Dons before he joined the Bantams following his release in the summer of 2015 without having made a senior appearance for the current Premier League leaders.

Town are currently not in the market for another striker, however, manager Mick McCarthy has said they could look to replace David McGoldrick, whose Blues contract is up in the summer, if he is sold during the January window.

Looks the part and with that gene pool should be a winner.

As much as I would love this to be true, I doubt it... Why would we let Moore leave without a shot, when he is (I think) the top scorer in the same league? However, I would like this to be true. The lad has a tonne of pace and could do a job for us!

Did very little at bradford, so wouldn't want to pay much at all!

If he doesn't fancy crossing the border, even in our current state we must be the pick of the rest?

Saw a lot of him at Bradford and a couple of times for Fleetwood, absolutely not ! Not up to Championship level, poor movement, not an intelligent footballer. No thanks.

Does he have pace? A 22 year old who has scored 12 goals already in League One this season sound like just the type of player we should look to sign if we can get him cheaply. It feels like McGoldrick won't be here much longer and Celina returns in the summer. We need some players the fans can look forward to seeing how they develop.

If Everton are spunking 20 mill on the Turkish fella could Lookman be an option? Suspect out of league but even on loan would be teriific.

A few positives here; he is a player in form. Only scored 5 goals the whole of last season but has already eclipsed that with 12 this season. Seems injury free which is pretty much vital given our current predicament. Plays in League 1 so the shift between leagues wouldn't be monumental. On the negative side, Bradford fans thought he was shocking....but sometimes clubs just don't fit the player.

I like Devante Cole! A good prospect.
Seems more and more likely Didzy will leave which isn't disastrous, along with Kieffer Moore. Only leaves Drinnan (unproven) and Sears (no confidence). Coke would offer something different - roar roar pace.
For a cut price fee, seems good business all round.

I like Devante Cole. Offers lots of power and pace up front.

Yungblue: Coke isn't here anymore and I'd never describe him as pacey. He is still Suffolk based and has been on trial at non-League clubs in the area. He did offer something different but in all the wrong ways. After your post I had to double check we hadn't signed him up again!

The second young striker to be signed? Folami, Morris and Patterson must be wondering what's going on.

Scored 12 in L1 so must be a great player worth putting in our team.

Hang on..! Didn't we just sell one of those?!

Just seen Erik Sviatchenko has just been made surplus to requirements at Celtic. Danish centre back, quite good apparently. Wants to move to England. After a championship club. Perhaps Jonas can put in a word.
