Milne Aware of US Interest in Smith But No Decision Made
Saturday, 13th Jan 2018 20:49

MD Ian Milne says he’s aware of interest in Blues defender Tommy Smith from "an American team", but says no decision has been made on the New Zealand international’s future. Last weekend, TWTD revealed that the Colorado Rapids, who are managed by Smith’s All Whites boss Anthony Hudson, were targeting the 27-year-old.

Quizzed on BBC Radio Suffolk’s Life’s a Pitch (from 1hr 17mins 42secs), Milne said: “I’m aware there’s interest from an American team. We all love Tommy very much personally and as a player.

“It’s a case of where he wants to be as well, how fit he is and all the rest of it. He’s been playing very well. So there’s no decision been made on him.”

Smith was withdrawn from the squad which faced Sheffield United in the FA Cup last weekend due to illness and missed today’s 1-0 victory over Leeds for the same reason.

Reports in the US indicate that the Rapids are looking to sign two centre-halves before their season gets under way next month.

Meanwhile, Milne says he knows of no interest in Blues striker David McGoldrick, whose contract is up at the end of the season with Town having no option to keep the Ireland international for a further campaign.

Cardiff City, who we understand were again represented at today’s match, and Birmingham City were both linked earlier this month.

“There’s nothing going on there, as far as I’m aware,” Milne added when asked about the situation.

Asked whether there have been any talks with McGoldrick regarding a new deal, he said: “That I don’t know. Again it’s going to be between Mick [McCarthy] and [owner] Marcus [Evans]. It’s a case of what the strategy is going forward.

“We’ve got him until the end of the season and that discussion’s going to happen over the next [few months].”

Also appearing on today's Life's a Pitch was Blues right-back Jordan Spence (from 1hr 10mins 25secs).

Everytime this clueless idiot opens his mouth things get less and less clear. He's always the last to be told something and I can't really blame Evans as he seems a bit dim

At least he's been made aware of the interest - that's better than his usual level of awareness.

Another vague performance from our Sergeant Schultz like figure. He has an other world personal about him witness comment about Tommy playing very well. Sadly Tommy has hardly played at all in the past few months and when he did get back it was in the debacle at Fulham and then after that he was unwell again

Perhaps Tommy has got New Zealand flu. Milne has no idea what day of the week it is

How does this square with McCarthy saying he knows nothing about interest in him?
And would everyone stop interviewing this joker, he has nothing to say of any credence.

Ask him if he knows who he is?
Is it dementia or Alzheimer's ?
Who is Ian Milne? what are his qualifications?

How can the MD of any company know so little about what's going on in his organisation? Why can't he just be honest and say that he cannot discuss certain subjects because they are business sensitive. Better still why can he not be honest about anything? I'm guessing Radio Suffolk only give him air time to preserve their exclusive broadcast rights

Milne and MM don't seem to know very much do they? They both contradict each other as well. Perhaps it is Marcus who makes all decisions on transfers.

When the man who usually says he knows nothing is prepared to say he might know something, possibly , then we should all assume that something might possibly be going on. Perhaps.

Wise words from the man who brought you ‘I'm not aware of any interest in Kieffer Moore'

So much uncertainty and contradiction it just beggars belief.!!

Smith has been playing very well? We can add that to his comments about money being available to spend in January, and Moore's departure not being on the cards. "It's a case of what the strategy is going forward." - this man is supposed to be the MD, how can he not know?!

Indeed Mark. Usually a MD is closely involved in strategic planning but this guy frequently makes comments that suggest like Sergeant Schultz he sees nothing hears nothing and knows nothing. At least the inept Clegg did seem to have some idea what was happening but struggled to know what to do about it. All of this suggests to me that Evans is firmly in control albeit behind a cloak of invisibility. Strange times

Thus guy is incompetence in human form. Tommy has been playing very well. Does he not know he has been injured? He should not be allowed to speak in public.

What's the betting Smith and Bart leave on the last day of the transfer window, leaving us sputtering like fish on a sidewalk again?

What does this guy even do? Everything that's ever asked to him he'll say "Don't know. That's a conversation for Mick and Marcus Evans to have". SO WHY ARE YOU DOING INTERVIEWS?
