Parker Among Interviewees
Thursday, 10th May 2018 18:25

TWTD understands former England international midfielder Scott Parker was among those to be interviewed by Blues owner Marcus Evans earlier in the week.

The 37-year-old, who TWTD revealed was among those in the running to take over at Town a fortnight ago, is looking to make his first step into management having spent this season coaching Tottenham’s U18s after hanging up his boots following four campaigns at Fulham last summer.

Parker has long held ambitions to become a manager and he began working on his badges and coaching youngsters while he was at the height of his playing career, which saw him represent Charlton, Spurs, Newcastle and West Ham in addition to the Cottagers, as well as a short spell on loan at Norwich, and win 18 full caps.

As previously reported, Blues owner Marcus Evans began interviewing candidates last week and has continued to meet with prospective new Town bosses in the last few days.

The interview process will continue into next week when Evans is set to hold talks with St Mirren manager Jack Ross having been given permission to speak to the 41-year-old by his current club.

News of the Blues’ approach to St Mirren has seen Ross elevated to 2-1 odds-on favourite with Bet Victor ahead of Paul Hurst, 2-1 against, whose Shrewsbury side are in League One play-off action at Charlton this evening (Sky Sports Football 7.30pm).

Shefki Kuqi is at 10-1, Parker has moved up to 14-1 with Simon Grayson at 16-1, Tim Sherwood at 20-1 and then Danny Cowley, Frank Lampard, George Burley, John McGreal, Mark Warburton, Paul Cook and Tony Mowbray all at 25-1.

Elsewhere, Steve McClaren, an early link with the Town vacancy, is reportedly set to take over at QPR following Ian Holloway’s departure this afternoon.

Holloway, 55, was spoken to by the Blues as a potential alternative to first-choice Mick McCarthy when he was appointed in November 2012 but seems unlikely to be in the running this time around.

No thanks. I want a young and hungry manager but he has zero managerial experiences or ties to the club to make it a worthwhile gamble for me. Jack Ross or Paul Hurst are the kind of managers I like to see us go for as they are young but have successful seasons in management on their CV.

Not for me. Need some experience surely? This would be too big a risk. Jack Ross may be a decent option. Looks lovely me the tried and tested manager is not in MEs thinking.

I'm sorry but this would be absolutely ridiculous, has no credentials at this level. Has to go and earn his stripes at a lower level or north of the boarder. Think of all the manager at the lower level who have earns that break... Paul Hurst....Jack Ross

Wouldn't be the worst appointment always comes a cross as a level headed player has been working toward being a manager for years. Those that say he's got no experience did Pep Guardiola before he managed Barcelona?

Not a bid idea, looks to be hungry and wants to succeed, which is a strong point. A little concerned about no experience, but then again you go back Bobby Robson had managed Fulham for about half a season before he got sacked....that turned out pretty darn good.
Thinking outside the box, Steve Nicol/Paul Mariner duo, did pretty good for NE Revolution for a number of years in MLS, transfer system and budget controls very different but limited so have experience with getting a lot out of little.

Yes please!!! Parker was credited by Harry Winks for turning him from a yoof into an England international in a year. Could be an inspired appointment, of someone who would be happy to work with our structure.

Good player and a leader, level headed, played good passing football at high level. Would prefer him to Sol or Tim Sherwood, if we go down that route.

I wouldn't hate this. Parker as well as an Intelligent footballer comes across as sharper than your average football player. A gamble no doubt but wouldn't be surprised if he has a better managerial career than Lamps and Gerrard

Blue75 - a valid point, but managing Barcelona with millions to spend and inheriting an excellent squad is unfortunately slightly different to No money and a very average squad in championship terms.

Jas0999 a good manager will improve whatever he has available. Our squad isn't that bad probably the best we've had a few years.

Yes to no McLaren. So we now have Jack Ross who I know nothing about really, Paul Hurst much the same - but both sound like exactly the way I think we should go. Now Parker, and I can see no fault.

But what I'm really worried about ..... how long before Ollie ‘be careful what you wish for' is linked.

This is fun!!!

We have been linked with many this week and I appreciate and respect everyone is entitled to an opinion. No doubt we will have ideas of who we may or may not like to take over.
For myself I will support whoever is awarded the job because we need to build upon the positive energy that was evident on Sunday's match against Middlesbrough.
For the first time in a long while I actually believe we have just turned the corner, so please do not hammer prospective managers before they have even arrived at the club.

Would not have a problem with him as long as he would brings a good footballing philosophy with him. Being honest here, with the exception of Holloway along with the ‘Dino' as director of football (lol) I couldn't really give a flying one who we get.

So a question?
Marcus Evans until quite recently a "man in the shadows "
Is he now advising everyone, the Press, TWTD and all, about who is being interviewed?
Can that be confirmed here?
Would be very out of character for him ?
Are the " candidates" all running to the Press to say they have been interviewed?
Not heard them say that...
Maybe much if not all of this is just speculation
But now is it a little boring?
Yes many opinions but no one , absolutely no on here, writing our opinions really have any knowledge of who will be "'the one" or who will do any better than the last three.
Whatever Marcus Evans choice is, that is unknown, be he young , old , experienced or an "old boy"
But whoever is the choice then everyone should give that person a fair chance and let's not start with "slagging off" the new man, that would be a terrible move for all who really support ITFC
There can be very few now who have not been mentioned!
So maybe the pages can be silent until the announcement is actually made, and then there will be something real to say, hopefully, " give him a go and not cancel my direct debit"
Other comments will just take us back to the final dismal days of MM and the Supporters.

If he is looking at those with zero experience then why not look at Nash & Hogg as a double appointment? They know the club, know the players, know the fans and thanks to the last 4 games of the season have a little bit more experience of what it is all about - more than the likes of Parker, Gerrard & Lampard have.

Blues75 & Jas0999 with respect Guardiola was mentored by the ‘legend' Johan Cruijff, and you don't get a much better start than that.

Think I would prefer someone who is already a manager and has valuable experience of managing on little or no money and who has forward thinking , fresh ideas that are matching the current trends in the modern game.

For me, an experienced player who is well known in the game at International level is not suitable for the Town job just because of his past playing experience. Town is far too big a job for a novice
( albeit well known) to “ cut his teeth” on. He would have to work his apprenticeship at the lower levels first : a fact that the Cowley Bros have not lost sight of and I totally respect them for that!

Look at how hard MM struggled and he's had 40 years experience.

You've got to bring something else to the table in the form of achieving something in a managerial position. Not just some badges from the FA and a sense of entitlement to another big wage.

Start looking for a young manager with some success last season and then keep going down the list/divisions until someone says yes.

Can understand reservations about his lack of managerial experience , but for some reason I have a good feeling about Scott Parker as a manager .

He has great experience as a footballer , comes across very well as a professional and is definitely someone that would have the players respect .

I sort of see it a bit like when we appointed Bobby Robson . It's all about the man , just as much as the experience .

It's good to see there are some decent candidates being mentioned now - Jack Ross sounds good .......but please , not Sherwood , McClaren or Shefki

Not for me...if we were going down that route for a young manager just starting out with his coaching badges I'd go for Frank over him.

Yes!
I have my doubts about Hurst and Ross. Lack premier league connections and prem loans are presumably still part of the plan.
Parker the pick of the ex top players. Natural leader, intelligent, inspirational and would definetly sort out our ball shy midfield. Seriously ambitious player and I think he could be a top manager.

A mate of mine has a little bit of involvement with Spurs academy and reckoned we'd be lucky to have him.

Blue75 - I disagree that this is the best squad we have had for years. When you look at the loans and out of contract players departing, our squad is very small. The better players are getting older. Bart and Waghorn the only stand outs.

I agree regarding your manager comments though. I'm not against Parker by any stretch BUT I'd be surprised if we appointed someone with no experience. Time will tell!
