Blues Again Linked With Shrews Pair
Sunday, 17th Jun 2018 10:28

Town boss Paul Hurst is again reported to want to recruit defender Aristote Nsiala and midfielder Jon Nolan from his old club Shrewsbury.

According to The Sun on Sunday, the new Blues manager, who officially starts at Town on Monday, wants the duo to follow him to Portman Road but is said to need to sell before he can sign them.

As reported when Hurst’s appointment was confirmed at the end of last month, the pair, both 26, were widely viewed as players the new Blues boss might want to see follow him and a number of speculative stories have appeared in the weeks since then.

Several other Championship clubs, including Leeds, Norwich and Sheffield United, are all thought to be eyeing Nolan, who is contracted to Shrewsbury until the summer of 2020, and is likely to cost a substantial fee.

Centre-half Nsiala, whose contract runs to the end of June 2019, is also understood to have been watched by a number of Championship sides during 2017/18.

Like Nolan, the DR Congo international was initially recruited by Hurst when Grimsby manager from elsewhere in non-league, the pair having previously been with the Everton academy. The new Blues boss signed Nsiala for a second time when he took him from Hartlepool to Shrewsbury in January 2017.

Elsewhere, former Blues striker Kieffer Moore, 25, is linked with a £1 million permanent move to his former loan club Rotherham from Barnsley, who he joined from Town for £750,000 in January.

The Blues are understood to be entitled to a percentage of the small profit the Tykes would make should that deal transpire.

Niiice to linked to some players finally. Hurst must know some real gems in that league. Fingers crossed Evans and co can see them over the line. Coyb

no surprise if we put in bids for players that Hurst already knows. Certainly could do with another centre half but we do seem inundated with midfielders (if they are all ever fit)

'According to The Sun on Sunday...'. At this point the story lost credibility. Why does TWTD have to resort to scum papers to impart information to it's readers?

First we we signing Pardew, then McClaren, then Ross, then, then, then, then..... all apparently ripped from tabloids desperately looking to fill their pages.

Come on Phil, have some integrity, keep it local...

Sell before we can buy?! With exception of Bart ... who? Squad looks to be lacking depth with many moving on in the Summer.

Rotherham look to be spending £1M - just goes to show how Championship budgets and spending has changed in recent years. Speaking of Moore - have we fully reinvested the fee received for him in January - into new players?

Iam Spartacus - The Sun group have an excellent sports team. Yes the paper may be trash in some areas, but i dont see why people have to vindicate The Sun for reporting prospective transfers. All the other papers do it.

What happened to wanting wingers

So far every player being linked doesn't fit that criteria

Just saying

I honestly think Evans will give the cash to Hurst to sign these two, no problem at all, COYB!

Can't see a report being totally true because Hurst has already stated the midfield is oversubscribed and competition is high when all are fit. He as I ever said that he wants wide players. This is his primary focus I suggest, but also think he will hater alter defender.

Jesus -

If we're seriously in sell before you buy category, and cannot buy a couple of league 1 players outright - no pop at league 1 as some quality players in that league -

How in gods name can we be expected to do anything!?

@bluebare Nolan can also play just behind the striker, a perfect replacement for Didz. @Essexipswichboy yes Hurst did say that he wanted wingers & im sure we'll get them but if we don't get in a loanee centre back ie a Carlton-Vickers, Nsiala would be a perfect singing & he'd be our own player

Forest just spent £13M on one Portugese player!! and are looking to get either Grabban/Bamford too...looks like their fat Greek shipping magnet owner is going for it in the coming season...but we're remaining 'tight' and after listening to Evans didn't think we'd be spending and just hoping that our injuries from last season are fit for this one.

I can see these 2 signing.
Hurst knows these 2 and believes they can play higher.
It could be part of the deal of him coming in some way.
Nolan would be a concern due to the no. Of midfielders we have.
Didz replacement is a good shout - wages less.
Then it just the 2 wingers to find.

....... definitely need a couple of additions to the squad - but realistically can't see Shrewsbury wanting to do us any favours to be honest.

Not as if the Manager can flash a Cheque book to tempt them...... !!

Some seem to think that if 'we want a player' it a simple thing to sign them. Get real people - or is that too much to ask of some ... ?? ...... I guess it is.

Maybe this Site should avoid Sharing linked stories as it only causes unrest & negative comments: we never sign players which say 'LINKED'

Changing the Manager had to be the right step, for many reasons - but don't get too excited people, keep the 'hissy fits' under control.

Many steps forward still needed, before we hit the hights that some are taking as / for granted.

WAKE UP PEOPLE - WE STILL HAVE THE SAME OWNER........ don't forget.

Nsiala is a no brained, passionate player who is a very good defender, not the best technically.

Nolan is a tricky one. Because a fully fit Bishop is ten times better than nolan. But we could get 2 games in. Transfer window shut. And bishop is out for the season again.

Not buying into this paper talk, but this is where Hurst should have the edge on recruiting from the lower leagues. If there's any substance in this sell before we buy statement, then where has that 2million sponsorship money which allegedly is for squad development going or gone??

Ahhh toxtethblue, I see I'm not the only one convinced by Marcus Evans, Mr Nice interview then? 😂.

And cat, I was speaking to the groundsman the other day.
He ordered nice straight lines when marking the pitch and told Hurst, with regards to the money, that there was plenty still in the tank.

But as previously posted. He is a very nice man.
