Five Changes as Blues Face Brentford
Tuesday, 18th Sep 2018 19:13

Town boss Paul Hurst makes five changes to his team for this evening’s home game against Brentford with Janoi Donacien, Trevoh Chalobah, Kayden Jackson, Ellis Harrison and Grant Ward returning to the side, while Jon Walters, the mystery pre-match doubt, misses out.

Gwion Edwards, Jon Nolan, Jordan Graham and Flynn Downes all drop to the bench.

The Blues look set to line-up in a 3-5-2 system for the first time under Hurst with Donacien at left-back, where he played for Accrington last season, Jonas Knudsen on the left of the back three and Grant Ward, Cole Skuse and Chalobah in midfield. Harrison and Jackson are up front.

Town: Gerken, Spence, Pennington, Chambers (c), Knudsen, Donacien, Chalobah, Skuse, Ward, Harrison, Jackson. Subs: Bialkowski, Edwards, Nolan, Graham, Downes, Edun, Kenlock.

Brentford: Bentley, Mepham (c), Maupay, McEachran, Watkins, Mokotjo, Sawyers, Benrahma, Dalsgaard, Konsa, Barbet. Subs: Daniels, Macleod, Canos, Yennaris, Judge, Clarke, Jeanvier. Referee: Darren Bond (Lancashire).

I've heard of managers who don't know their best XI, but this is something special.

Remarkable. Let's hope this is successful and leads us to our first win. But, quite speechless at the change. Clever? Reckless? Genius? Clueless?

I really don't know. Good luck lads! Still looking forward to this.

Interesting to see how we go with Harrison and Jackson upfront tonight. I fancy us to win tonight.

Gwion would be the first name on the team sheet for me, but I'm not the boss.

We dont score enough and we concede too many goals, if we can sort the defence out and stop leaking goals it's half the battle, 1-0 :)

Searching, i know we need to rest players but dropping our stand out player when we need a win?

2 up top though, I assume?

I've thought this might actually be our best formation, gives us two up front at least. But surely Kenlock is the best left wing back at the club!? To play Donacian there so Spence can keep his place is baffling!!! Also, the worst bit a bit the formation is the Edwards doesn't really fit in it unfortunately.

The two up top is what must have been waiting for! Question is are these two boys ‘good enough' Hurst!

McCarthy's ‘cozy club' continues, Hurst's ‘Achilles heel'?

This is perfectic our 7 players on the bench would probably still get a better result against Brentford then are starting 11 Edwards on the bench Donacien and Spence both playing has hurst had a midlife crisis

Maybe the nysterious injury wasnt Walters. More likely it was Hurst's mental equilibrium. Will be very much interested to hear his excuses post-match.

This chart basically says it all–and it was done BEFORE this latest selection. (And look who's at the other end of the chart...)

Right formation, wrong personnel. Hope I am wrong though. We only need one of Skuse and Chalobah in midfield not both. This is not a 3 5 2 by the looks but a 5 3 2. Not sure they are wing backs. When you play 5 3 2 you only need one defensive midfielder otherwise we are playing a back 7. Well better safe than sorry.

It sounded like the performance at Hull was dreadful, so a drastic change was probably needed tonight in terms of line-up. My fear is that PH can shuffle the pack in all sorts of interesting ways but it doesn't change the fact that the pack itself is not strong, certainly not compared to many other Championship teams. I don't want to be disrespectful to the players, but you read through the names of the starting XI and the subs and you think to yourself there aren't too many (any?) names there that will strike fear into the opposition. But anyway, good luck tonight. COYB!

My 0-3 prediction is looking good especially with those two inexperienced useless donkey's up front. I can't see where any goals will come from in that line up but I can see plenty of goals being conceded.sad sad times for town fans

Hurst looked a defeated man in his interview on the local news earlier. He's already talking about ME being a patient man and we're only half way through September.

Spence is stealing a living, no fluent passing, hit and hope passing.

Well that was a shocking half. Nothing good about it, and nothing to show we are not already in a relegation fight. What the hell are you doing to our club????
