Town Confirm Hurst and Doig Depart
Thursday, 25th Oct 2018 17:03

Town have confirmed that manager Paul Hurst has been sacked, owner Marcus Evans believing that it “is in the best interests of the club” to appoint a new boss with ex-Norwich manager Paul Lambert set to be his successor. Assistant manager Chris Doig, fitness coach Nathan Winder and physio Chris Skitt have also left the Blues, while academy head of coaching and development Bryan Klug will take caretaker charge for Saturday’s game at Millwall.

“I have decided that it is in the best interests of the football club that we appoint a new manager to take us forward,” Evans told the club site.

“I would like to thank Paul and Chris for their efforts and we wish them well for the future but after 14 matches we find ourselves bottom of the Championship and with only one win this season.

“Paul’s arrival here in the summer was welcomed by us all and we worked tirelessly to support him fully with his plans for player recruitment, training methodology and backroom staff.

“But unfortunately those plans haven’t turned into positive results, which is why I have had to take this decision today.

“The core of our club remains strong and it is that which has helped us create a highly competitive team in the Championship over the last five or six years.

“This group of experienced players along with the additions we made to the squad this summer of younger developing talent, plus the ongoing progression of players from our academy means the new manager will have a solid group to work with and build for the future.

“I am determined that we develop a team to play attractive and exciting football. We have a stable and talented coaching team in place at Ipswich and Bryan Klug will step up and take temporary charge of the first team for Saturday’s trip to Millwall.

“I am actively looking to appoint a new manager as soon as possible with experience, who will embrace the long term vision we all have for the club and who can deliver the success that every Ipswich Town supporter craves.”

Had to be done. Wouldn't mind Lambert. I know ex Norwich scum but remember 'painfully ' how they tore us apart

Evans, you are living in cloud cuckoo land. This squad needs SERIOUS investment and quickly.

Until this cretin of an owner goes our beloved ITFC is at best going to be an also ran. They guy has no idea and if anyone is out of his depth it is him. We need a chairman with character, with a love for the club, a reachable goal and the willingness to use the necessary resources to make this happen. Until then......

Lambert, surely not, his saving grace must be that he is cheap.

Happy with Lambert, would be a good appointment.

He is a good manager, just because he was at Norwich doesn't mean anything to me so I welcome him.

Right thing to get rid of Hurst.

So another manager called Paul?
Hope this is 3rd time lucky!
Would of loved George Burley but not to be!
Lambert has done very little since Norwich so not really sure what to expect.

Was so excited at appointment and gutted for the guy.

In my opinion tried to change too much too soon, poor recruitment and bizarre team selections.

It's very strange for our club to do this so soon but we are in so so much trouble we had no choice.

Football can be so cruel but we support the club, not one mans dream.

Let's move on but not forget the real baddy in the piss poor situation is still at the club and that's the chairman.

Pleased to see the back of Hurst but not sure that Lambert is the right choice. Having said that beggars can't be choosers.
Hopefully the players will step up for Bryan Klugg on Saturday and start getting us up the league before it really is too late.

....absolutely gutted that the experiment didn't work .....
,,,,even more gutted that it's lambert in the frame
.....where are the ex town players that can be drafted into the club and make the team proud to wear the shirt ....or give Klug the job!!
....another poster suggested mick will be laughing ....don't care ....we are still enjoying the fact that he has gone..,,,,

Swn98..... Time to put the 'I love Mick' to rest now. The club were going nowhere with him so it was time for a change. The change didn't work so we now move on and support our once wonderful club. Whoever comes in will have a hell of a job to turn things around. Get behind the new guy and please put Mick Mccarthy out of your mind.

Really disappointed it has come to this. But after QPR Saturday and last night against Leeds this was inevitable.

Like many I had high hopes of a new era but for whatever reason it has not worked between him and the players. Doubt we will ever know the full reasons why.

Concerned about the idea of Lambert. No issue myself with it as we should judge the man not his past but with the anti Evans feeling strong on this website I fear a backlash under the "not understanding football" guise.

Whatever comes next we have to unite. We are deep in trouble.

One of the saddest things through all of this is that a once respected family club is now in such disarray.

Let hope that change in the managers seat will do the same on the pitch and in the stands.

Thank god. Have seen a good selection of games in the flesh this season, but the performance against QPR was unforgivable and evidence that the win against Swansea was a fluke. Didn't expect anything but a loss last night, and thought Evans was going to persevere with Hurst til at least the Preston game. Very, very relieved he's acted now although not excited by the prospect of Paul Lambert, though I'm sure he will get more out of them than the fearmongerer ever did.
The time was right for Mick to go, and we should all remember that he saved us from relegation and should have taken us up the year we made the play-offs. However, things had gone sour and were never coming back round, although I do think some of the vitriol of fans was over-the-line. Was very excited about Hurst when appointed, and have tried my best to get behind him til the end. However, the spinelessness of that home performance and the terrible man-management meant he was never going to succeed. Good riddance, he should have done the honourable thing and resigned but that's e extremely wishful thinking. However, believe we had to act now or we were in danger of going down and never coming back up again.
My preference for management would be Burley and Butcher to steady things this season and then we go from there. No questioning whether their hearts would be in it, and no doubt in my mind that we wouldn't go down with them at the helm.
Hopefully this is the first of many bits of good news to come but there is still a lot of work to be done before we can even think ahout getting out of this relegation battle. COYB

Good move. I liked Hurst at first but as soon as he was put under pressure you could see the ‘headless chicken' tendency which has proved his undoing. Important that this change was made now before we became cut adrift from the main pack. I just hope whoever takes over can make something positive from the rag-bag of lower league players they will be inheriting. On the positive side we may get a manager who understands the benefits of balancing the introduction of some of our very promising youngsters into the mix. What we now need is more consistency in the team line ups in our coming games to try and improve cohesive teamwork. Onwards and upwards. COYB.
