Boss Lambert Pays for Fans' Coach Travel
Saturday, 19th Jan 2019 10:37

Blues boss Paul Lambert has personally reimbursed the travel costs of 50 Town fans taking the official coach to today’s game at Blackburn Rovers.

Fans embarking the coach at Portman Road at 6.45am this morning for the 500-mile round-trip to Ewood Park found a letter on their seat from the Town manager.

With coach tickets priced at £37 each, in total Lambert, who yesterday confirmed he would be staying at Portman Road next season no matter which division Town are in, paid £1,850, a gesture which was warmly received by those travelling.

The Blues manager has repeatedly praised the club’s support since taking over at Portman Road in late October.

He's a very smart bloke, getting the legends in, making the signings, paying for the travel, saying he's here long term 👏👏👏👏 how did other clubs not love him

I really hope Paul succeeds at Ipswich as his efforts on and off the pitch deserve success as he really has pulled out all the stops since coming here. I had my doubts about Paul Lambert at first as wasn't totally convinced about his record since Norwich and I was always rather keen on George Burley after his great piece in the EADT a while back. However, since Lambert has been here even though results haven't always quite gone our way, I've been so impressed by his words and actions (such as this one) that you can't help but want to see the man make a big impact here as he thoroughly deserves it. And even Marcus Evans seems to be getting the message too so feel much happier with the general warm feeling around the club right now. Mick while certainly an astute manager on a budget could be divisive and stubborn and Paul Hurst also proved very stubborn during his short-term here. Subsequently we desperately needed a manager to unite the fans and it seems we've had our prayers answered on that front. So COYB!!!

It's not very often an appointment fits everyone so well but I think PL genuinely wants to make this his home.

Next town ledgend in the making.

Everyone is behind you Paul good luck 👍👍

Just hope those travelling by other means don't start asking why they're not getting costs paid, just be pleased for those that have, he didn't have to do this, please don't be the one who starts expecting this..

Brilliant gesture...

The fact that he's only had to pay for 50 says a lot about the level of support

Not nessesarily sausage.
Town has a wide catchment area of supporters so not everyone is going by coach from ipswich and surrounding towns. I have been going to way matches for 35 years from my home town and the club has always been well supported by fans from all over the country. Still getting over 1000 fans to an away game is fantastic for a club at the bottom of the league. This is a great gesture by PL and I have absolutely no problem with it.

Little touches like this mean so much to hard pressed fans, especially in our current league position. Leicester have been pulling it off for a while - a pint at half time on the house etc. Well done Paul and really hope we get a result today.

Who does this man think he is?

Since coming to the club he has launched a massive charm offensive; talking to the legends, saying nice things about the supporters, now he pays for a coach load to go to the game!

Has he not learned from the sullen and miserable how to be a successful manager?

Wow.

I remain convinced the damage was already too much to repair... On the pitch. But off it he clearly understands the importance of the fans.

Excellent gesture, here's hoping for salvation.

Instant ‘glove in hand' between club and Lambert, an affinity ! Let's hope in time, with of course patience, success follows on field of play! Top gesture, so it is!

Stop ! Think ! Observe ! See and Hear ,this is a very real good human being who understands how to motivate ,manage and enthuse all round .He's even got ME on the bandwagon too: so let's be nothing but positive ,supportive and enthusiastic too !
He deserves it, ME deserves it AND the management team and squad are thoroughly earning our respect ,and dare I say it ‘love ‘ This is the Town we all wanted ,isn't it ?

I hope in many years to come the town fans are having the debate about who is towns best ever manager

Sir Alf or Sir Bobby (Total Legend) or Paul Lambert.

Mr Lambert you are the best manager we have had here since George Burley and yet you have only won two games. Excellent work so far here is to back to back wins today you will have 500 fans backing the club all the way.
