Lankester: Gaffer Has Made It Clear We're Out There to Win League
Wednesday, 10th Jul 2019 18:22
Jack Lankester says manager Paul Lambert has made it clear to the squad that the Blues will be “out there to win the league” this season, despite the Blues boss appearing to temper expectations with his public comments after Saturday’s 3-2 friendly defeat at Paderborn.
“He’s made it pretty clear that we’re out there to win the league,” Lankester, who missed the final months of last season with a stress fracture to his back, told iFollow Ipswich when asked what the manager had said to the squad.
“Everyone’s come back really well, the intensity in training is so high, we’re all ready for it, we’re all together.
“In terms of me, he said he wasn’t expecting me to come back and go straight in straight away, which I have.”
Bury St Edmunds-born Lankester is a Town fan born and bred with his father Steve a regular at Portman Road on matchdays.
“My whole family [are Town fans] so it’s not nice seeing what happened [last season],” the 19-year-old continued.
“But you’ve got to look at it in a way that we’ve got to bounce back up this season straight away, no doubt about it. We’ve got to give everything. I know I’ll give everything for this club.
“[The goal is] definitely [to go straight back up], the first few games are vital to get off to a good start and that sets out our season. Get some points early then we’ll be alright.”
He added: "It's not an easy first game away to Burton and then hosting Sunderland a week later, who are another massive club in the division, will also be difficult.
"But if we can prove ourselves against those two sides then I think it sets us up really well for the campaign."

The one piece of quality from our ‘not’ so promising youths. Gonna be a top, top player.
With the likes of Josh & Miles not ‘IMO’ being up for it, Dozzell failing to impress on a regular basis and Downes lack of focus, these lads need to step up, maybe LG 1 will suit them better.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves. Lets set a target of winning 5 games, as many as we won last season and move on from there.

Yes jong, winning 5 games in August is a reasonable target

Lankaster has a great future and hope he plays a major role in the coming season. He's got a very important role in PL team so hope he keeps injury free .

Players should just get on with it, no need to put extra pressure on themselves. But i thought Jack showed ability and a great attitude prior to his injury. Hes a blue through and through and I wish him all the very best for the coming season.
May the horse be with you Jack......always

Of course our target should be to win the league! Surely that's the target every season isn't it? These are professional footballers, why is it unreasonable for their paying fans to expect them to perform to the best of their ability? They should feel pressure, they should be fighting for a place in the starting 11 and they should feel proud to wear the shirt. I think Jack is, and will be a key player for us next season as he's a Town fan as well as a player. To me that shines through when he's on the pitch and a few others would do well to follow his example.

WInning every game should be every footballers goal. Yes, you can look at a fixture and think "ok, this will be tough", but the intention still should be to win. That was my main problem with McCarthy, I didn´t get the winning mentality the last couple of years, it was more "let´s set up for a point" (I liked Mick, just thought he was a bit too stubborn and old fashioned for his own good). We need to get the winning mentality back, and soon.

Top 6 should be the minimum requirement this season. We're likely to have the 2nd highest wage budget in this division so finances can't really be used as an excuse like it could in the Championship. We have lots of players who should be very good in this league such as Nsiala, Nolan, Edwards, Norwood etc.

Definitely one who has the ability, belief and hunger to make it. Dozzell needs to show more of that drive. Obviously they are still learning, but for Lankester consistency, performing to a high level week in week out and chance conversion rate will be important this season.
To be real contenders for the title we are short in a few positions, the principal one being a player up front who can bring Lankester, Norwood, Judge etc into the game and score himself. Will Keane would have been the perfect answer, hopefully he won't be too expensive.
We also need two full-backs to compete with Emmanuel & Kenlock. For me, Nydam and Kenlock are better suited to wing-back. Donacien appears to prefer centre-back, maybe Crowe can be persuaded to stay.
I expect Nsiala to really step up. When it was obvious we were going down last year, players like him & Jackson could have been given more exposure, rather than play loanees who were never going to stay.

Thanks Jack for clearing that up----was not happy with the comments of Lambert-----perhaps he can now come out and say what his intentions are for next season and I hope they match mine---WIN THE LEAGUE AND PROMOTION!!
See some of you lovely peeps in Meppen this week-end for our first trophy in dont know how many years!!

Blueswede...that was micks problem a 'winning mentality'....u do know we got relegated after mick left 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂 and that we have barely won any games since.....TALK IS CHEAP...MONEY BUYS THE WHISKEY.....#WHERES THE SIGNING....or our we going to resemble the bugsy malone cast!?!?!?

If we can keep him, judge, Bishop and huws fit for the season and Norwood scores like he can we do have a good chance of promotion for me this season.

Theres a big difference between believing in yourself, doing the business on the pitch as oppose to trying to sell it to the media. Dont talk the talk, John the Wark.

Yessssssssssssss!!!!!!...that should sell a few more season tickets, in all reality I think we will have had a fairly successful season if we end up in the play-offs.

Strange isn't it - the tiny minority boo-boys have gone quiet?
Some sort of realisation that Lambert knows what he's doing?
Embarrassed, I suspect : )
