Crowe Signs First Pro Deal Ending Months of Speculation
Friday, 26th Jul 2019 15:31

Academy product Dylan Crowe has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the Blues, ending months of speculation regarding his future.

Right-back or right midfielder Crowe, 18, has signed a deal which runs to the summer of 2022 and is expected to include the usual year’s option.

With Town since the age of 12, Crowe has won England caps at U15, U16, U17 and U18 levels.

Celtic, Huddersfield, RB Leipzig, Arsenal, Manchester United, Brighton, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Benfica were among a host of clubs claimed to have been eyeing Crowe, who completed his two-year academy scholarship at the end of last season.

Crowe featured for the U18s and U23s during 2018/19, although missed a lot of football through injury, and was involved in Wednesday night's U23s friendly victory at Lowestoft, coming on at half-time.

Today seems a good news day can we just have a couple of experienced players in the next few days.

I did not see that coming?! Very exciting, let's bring him into the first team squad if he's getting close to being ready - the reports of global superpower clubs keeping tabs on him indicate he might be.

I was sure we'd lost him. Just goes to show rumours do not always reflect reality. Great news: now go on and cement a place in the starting eleven!

With all the big clubs being linked and this deemed a problem position for us, why not give him a try from the off if he's that highly rated(can't be any worse than spence)

This is really good news. He appeared, as far as we supporters could tell, to be stalling on signing a contract for a while and I expected him to be off, so well done to club and player in getting this sorted at long last.

A nice long contract too, which should help protect his value if any big clubs do come calling in the future.

This piece of fantastic news, and long-term investment, is far more significant than the on going Alan Judge saga.

Are all these kids signing deals without assurances of game time ? If so then PL is some salesman as suspect that very few will feature, in the League at least, this season yet again. If not then they really better be good enough as this is not the year to take chances !

PL has stated that the re-building is a long-term process, largely based on the promising young players. Seems like that approach is beginning to be put in motion. Now, we just need Dozzell to sign a new contract and the future begins to look more rosy.

Great news for the lad, let's hope he doesn't find himself the subject of a derisory offer from a championship in 6 months time and decide his contract isn't worth the paper it's written on and fancies the opportunity!!!😂

Good news but where is the experienced central defender? Wondering if James Collins has got himself fit and running again.....? We need someone like him or to loan a decent left footed Prem squad member who needs a run of games .........

I sensed earlier in the year PL was not too enamoured with this young man as he commented that some young players thought they had arrived in the game before they had proven themselves.

By the age of 18 the likes of Mills, Burley, Beattie, Wark, Dyer, Osman, Bent, Ambrose, Richards, Westlake, Dozzel, Wright, Bishop had all made their first team debuts and were serious challengers for a regular first team place. I am sure there are several others I have missed.

With the exception of Mick Mills I have watched all the above players at youth team level and was excited about their prospects.

I have to say I have watched this lad several times and even at U23 level he hasn't stood out for me. I know he has had a few injuries this year but when we played Birmingham in the U23 North v South Semis he was completely anonymous. I don't particularly want to be seen as criticising young players but just wanted to put the “fuss” about his potential as an 18 year old into perspective. If he lives up to the hype he should be pushing for a first team place now and I don't see him on PLs radar for debut anytime soon.

The lad Benyu who went to Celtic under a similar level of hype had a great first season there in two games on loan to Oldham!!!!

So Dylan show us some grit and application - roll up your sleeves and show the doubters that you are worthy of a contract for a club that has a history of giving young players real opportunities
