Vincent-Young in Doha Seeing Specialist
Friday, 1st Nov 2019 12:13

Fitness coach Jim Henry has revealed that right-back Kane Vincent-Young has been in Doha, Qatar this week with physio Matt Byard seeing a specialist regarding his groin injury. Henry, speaking at last night’s Meet the Club event, has also given an update on the progress of Freddie Sears, Teddy Bishop and Jack Lankester.

Vincent-Young, who has made a hugely impressive start to his Town career having signed from Colchester in August, suffered a recurrence of the groin problem which saw him miss a couple of games earlier this month at Southend last Saturday but with the problem not expected to keep him out of action for too long.

Sears tore a cruciate knee ligament injury earlier this year, as did young striker Ben Morris, while Lankester suffered a second stress fracture in his back during pre-season and Bishop a medial ligament problem.

Quizzed on the current situations with Sears, Bishop, Lankester and Morris, Henry said: “Freddie’s been training this week, he’s done some jump training just two days ago.

“I think we’re still talking about a number of months until he’s fully fit. That’s basically because we have to be careful because of [the danger of] re-injury. He’s probably a few months away still Freddie.

“Ben Morris, I haven’t really seen much of Ben Morris. Jack Lankester’s had a back problem, that’s going to take probably from now until the end of the season.

“Bishop’s doing really well. He’s had a medial strain and that takes a little bit of time, a few months until he’s back. He’s doing a lot of strength work, he’s started to do some aerobic work today, so again we’re still talking about a number of weeks until he’s back on the grass.”

Town have had plenty of long-term injury problems over recent seasons but Henry says the Blues are far from the only ones.

“It’s definitely happening at other football clubs, that’s for sure,” he reflected. “If you look at Portsmouth, I think they’ve had six cruciates in the last two or three years. I think Tranmere when we played them had something like 10 out.

“If you look at the top football clubs, Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United’s a really good example, they had 75 injuries last year. They’ve got the best facilities in the world and they’re still struggling.

“I think we’ve done really well with injuries. I think Matt has probably been a little bit under-resourced for the last few seasons, but we’re starting to get on top of that now.

“We’re sending a lot of our players to Ireland for assessment. Matt’s over in Doha right now with Kane Vincent-Young right now.

“The club’s spending a lot of money now, we’re starting to address that. I think it’s only time before that pays dividends.”

Previously, Town players spent time at Aspetar in Doha, which describes itself as the “world's leading specialised orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital”, in the summer of 2018.

Meanwhile, Henry also stressed the importance of the first-team chef Adam Gooderham: “The chef is a massive advantage, food’s important. They need the right carbohydrates and protein, we have a Michelin star chef at the football club and he’s fantastic.

“We managed to lure him away from some restaurant and he is fantastic. It’s definitely worth coming for some lunch.”

Months for Freddie?! I thought the original timeline was next month for some reserve action?! Obviously don't want to rush him back, but Jacko/Norwood could do with some competition!

Freddie months away? That's changed then! What a shame could do with him he would smash this league I am sure. Good for his confidence too for when we are promoted 😉

I stick to earlier comments I've made here, namely I'll be astonished if January goes by without further additions.

Maybe managing expectations here. All being well, we could see Freddie after Christmas. But it's a horrible time to be thrown in after months out, and we need them fit for good.

You cannot have failed to be impressed by KVY and to a lesser degree Garbutt, and it surely highlights the importance of fullbacks these days. Regretfully they shone a light on deficiencies in the department and we definitely need back up at both LB and RB come January.....though do have belief in Kenlock, it just seems his confidence has been knocked whilst playing behind the empty space Judge vacated when they were both in the side last.

Bit surprised you need to fly all the way to Qatar to get some quality treatment/assessment, but there you go... . (Not sure Greta would agree!) We could certainly do with some or all of Sears, Bishop, Lankester, Morris, etc. back sooner rather than later as our fixture list is piling up.

No mention of Nydam?

Bluefox

He wasn't asked about, so wasn't mentioned. He was on Life's a Pitch a while back and gave his assessment of how long he'd be out.

Nydam Staying Positive During Recovery 5th Sep 2019 14:37
Tristan Nydam says he’s staying positive and that his recovery from the broken ankle he suffered during pre-season is progressing well. 8

The ever increasing professionalism is clearly demonstrated ; and despite the current news being disappointing both for supporters and the squad ,it does show a) how far behind we were in our approach b) how much on site facilities needed improving and C) how appreciative we ought to be of PL and Co and of the quiet commitment from a Marcus Evans - all these things cost !

Freddy Sears is a hard working and loyal player. He's a likeable 'top bloke'. Hes recovering from a serious injury and other than a worldly last year has typically struggled to hit a barn door in the last few seasons. I undertsand people like to see someone running and working hard but he is not the future of this club. I would personally be upset if his return cuts into the potential playing time of lankester, el mizouni, dobra, keane, folami etc.

Yes,
I do miss SWN98.
Do you think the rumours that he became MM's live in butler were true?
I think it's much friendlier these days.
We text in peace and harmony, respecting each other's opinions.
Ipswich fans could teach the world to sing 😁

Toronto Tractor. If it was a choice of Edwards or Sears playing wide , who would you prefer ?

Sears months away, no sign of Ben Morris, Lankester probably not going to be seen all season. While it's folly to rush players back, especially young ones, I'm not seeing much good news here.

dosnt look like we will be seeing much of these lads this season, shame Freddie is still some way off fitness ,he would be a big boost for us, but as was stated cant rush it . As for Bishop , he is always going to be skilful passenger i fear.
