Sears, Morris and Ward in U23s at Millwall
Monday, 9th Dec 2019 11:42

Freddie Sears, Ben Morris and Grant Ward will all play for Town’s U23s when they face Millwall at The Den this afternoon as they continue their recoveries from their ACL injuries (KO 1pm).

Sears, 30, has been out since the Norwich game in February, while fellow striker Morris, 20, suffered his injury in the same month.

Midfielder Ward, who was injured at QPR on Boxing Day, was released at the end of last season but has remained at Playford Road with clubs obliged to get players fit before they leave.

The 25-year-old will feature as a trialist with manager Paul Lambert having played down the chances of him re-signing the former Tottenham man.

U23s: Przybek, O'Reilly, Fehrenbach, Ndaba, Clements, Hughes, Gibbs, Ward, Folami, Sears, Morris. Subs: Stewart, Alley, Foudil, K Brown, Scott.

Will be good to see these 2 back and challenging for a 1st team place. Would love to see Morris hit the form we know he’s potentially capable of.

Fantastic news. Freddie Sears will make a great difference.

Saturday with only Keane and Jackson available as strikers was not good. We need the other options of Norwood and Sears all fighting for places.

Maybe Freddie is a couple of months away from the first team? Let's not hope for him to be rushed back too quickly.

I look forward to the PR roar when he does come back for his first game.

Go on Freddie!

He can play a massive part in the second half of these season, just hope he plays up top in a 2 and stuck out on the left.

Good news on Morris as well.

Great news about Freddie. Nice to hear Grant Ward is making a comeback too, even if it might ultimately not be with us.

Think Ward has been told go out and win a contract. There would be no obligation to play him in U23 games!

Alfromocol. Dont think youll find Sears is gonna be back early. This is just the next stage in his recovery. Still a way to go yet before he'll be ready for 1st team action I would expect. Abdutely no point in rushing him back, only for him to have a recurrence of his injury.

Great news a of course. Hope it goes well for them. Next one i want to see is Jack Lancaster turning it on again in the first team. He looked excellent in the Championship.

Great to hear. Freddie, Morris, Lankester and Ward would all be in or around 1st team action in my opinion.

Such good news, and comes at a time when the squad (regardless of whose turn it in in the grand rotation scheme of things) seems to have plateaued to a degree. Great players, who know everyone, need no introduction to the style of play, and are even better suited to make an immediate impact.

This is the best piece of news to come from the club in a very long time

Normally playing any part in a u23,s would mean 1st team selection not far off.
If all goes well, we could see both of them before xmas.
And both way to good for L1 imo.

fingers crossed that Freddie can get back to full fitness and playing without any setbacks ,these ''comeback tests'' are worrying. We really need him ,but not in haste . GOOD LUCK FREDDIE .

First step but great to have two more forwards in the mix. Interesting that Ward is getting a run out. At his best he'd be good addition.

I like Freddie. He's a top bloke, but Freddie sears is not the answer. He scored 9 in 21 when first arrived when combining superbly with Murph. He was five years younger and pre-major injury. He has scored 21 in his last 141 for town. Thats a goal every 604 minutes. Lets assume he returns to this pre-injury level which isnt a guarantee, I personally feel he is an unnecessary hurdle to the progress of younger team mates.
