Two-Match Ban For Downes For Straight Red Card
Wednesday, 17th Feb 2021 16:19
Town midfielder Flynn Downes will miss two games as a result of being shown a straight red card in the late incident which saw him dismissed during last night’s 0-0 draw with Northampton.
There was confusion regarding the situation regarding the 22-year-old’s sending off with referee Darren Drysdale showing a yellow and then a red card but with Downes not having been previously booked.
However, the situation has now been clarified and Downes was first booked for a foul, then shown a straight red card for offensive language to the official as he reacted to the caution, hence the two-match ban rather than the expected one.
Downes, who was captaining the Blues. will miss Saturday’s match at home to Oxford United and next Tuesday’s trip to Hull City.

Hot headed prat . Downes as Captain material my arse. Just imagine the uproar on here had Chambers done this !

Totally out of order ,especially when Captaining the side : needs to learn personal responsibility and discipline ,AND learn to count to TEN before opening his mouth !
FD is so behind the curve in his game and approach ( never mind what PL says ) and our overall approach and work completely evidences a great shortage of individual and team focus and discipline .
Much needs to improve ! We can I’ll afford to lose players unnecessarily !

Another regrettable decision turning Palaces 4 million down. Another overrated pre a Madonna that is a liability rather than an asset.

The whole Ipswich team is not one to be proud of regarding behaviour on the pitch, lack of discipline has crept in with players regularly arguing with officials and also our coaches and manager joining in. Not something to be proud of but something that has crept into the modern game. Why should refs put up with it. There are ways of saying something other than a verbal foul language assault. Agree Downes is not Captain material. In fact looking through the team who is, who can lead, play well and be trusted?

Get rid of captain chaos , doesn't want to play for the club getting sent off means he avoids getting injured and scuppering a move in the future.

He seems to get booked every time he plays, as a midfielder it’s about time he learnt to tackle.....
Failing that, accept he can’t and keep his mouth shut then all those top clubs watching him won’t notice.

This needs to be appealed on the basis the ref had lost his head by then......
jabberjackson added 17:28 - Feb 17
Look at Drysdale's face - shocking
This should be appealed by ITFC, as clearly the Referee's head has gone (as well as Flynn's), and he is incapable of making balanced decisions

when you see how taylor acts on the sidelines its no wonder we as a team are ill disciplined,at least jackson came out and apologised for his red card, lambert threw him under the bus with that one, doubt we will hear anything from downes he never learns, not fit to be captain of ipswich, he doesnt even wanna play for us tbh

Definitely worth an appeal after the manner in which the referee was behaving at that moment in time. He even got flustered with the cards. I still see Downes as one of our better players despite others apparently disagreeing. We only have a small number of decent players and the rest are struggling to play even at this poor standard. Massive clear out required. Get rid of the old boys network at start all over again. Sign players who want to play for the club. As much as I detest Norwich their club appears to now be run very effectively by owners who love the team.

He's just another town idiot,

Another few days off for him. I’ve no doubt after that he will get another niggling injury before getting his long awaited transfer in the summer, possibly to Cardiff.

‘Pre a Madonna’
That is a cracker.

I think it has been a good call to make Downes captain when Chambers isn’t playing. He’s young, probably the best and most passionate player we have. ‘OK Flynn, I’m going to trust you with this, go and show your true colors. Lead from the front, let us all benefit from your passion, let’s see you inspire the team Stevie G style.’ Only he doesn’t channel the passion to inspire, he just lets it ruin him. Shame.

I’m sure we will lose to Oxford and Hull with or without Flynn so makes no difference really

Just an overrated petulant little brat. Should be moved on ASAP and this would probably be best for him as he would have to go outside his nice little Ipswich comfort zone.

Our indiscipline this season is incredible

Appeal it. The ref had lost the plot. He messed up and won’t admit it.
Dozzells_Bobblehat added 09:21 - Feb 18
Appeal ??? On what grounds ? If he swore at the ref then end of . Doesn't matter about the Judge incident it's irrelevant. He has potential but he needs to learn to control himself .
jas0999 added 11:52 - Feb 18
Rightly sent off. It’s a shame more referees don’t show there’d card to players using offensive language.
Beattiesballbag added 12:30 - Feb 18
The Ref had clearly lost it before that point so that should be taken into consideration, as the state he was in he would take offence to anything that is run of the mill language on a football field.
braveblue added 13:51 - Feb 18
How do the righteous people on here know what Downes said? In what way was it worse than what the ref will hear every game? How many has he sent off for this in the past? Bit of a coincidence it happened just after he lost the plot.
