Clubs Eyeing Youngster Viral
Wednesday, 24th Feb 2021 19:54

TWTD understands academy midfielder Allan Viral is interesting clubs in England, France and Italy.

Paris-born Viral, 19, made his first senior appearances for the Blues in the Papa John’s Trophy earlier this season, as a very late sub in the tie against Gillingham at Portman Road and from the start at Crawley.

Viral, in the third year of his scholarship, is yet to be offered a pro contract by Town and we understand three unnamed English clubs are monitoring his situation, as are a side in his native France and another in Italy.

With the number of clubs now involved, the interest appears to be contagious

A whole world of puns about Viral in a post-Covid world...
Let's keep our kids though, or has Evans changed that plan...?

Another cheap story that won't materialise.

If he is such a talent at 19 he should be closer to our first team squad by now, so expect these rumours to be nothing more than his agent trying to generate interest

But it does highlight the problem of how long we can keep hold of our promising youngsters before the vultures come looking.

Nick Pope, Ryan Bennett, Jack Marriot, Jordan Rhodes... need I say more? Evans get your cheque book out

I am unsure why this is Evans fault.
The owner cannot offer contracts to everyone in the hope that they might make it...we have 50+ pros already !!!
The lad is 19yo but obviously 'our' manager does not rate him otherwise he would have had more opportunities in the first team will all our apparent injuries. With this in mind it is probably why he has not been offered a contract.
Only now that other clubs see a potential does everyone panic !!!
It may also be agents trying to force the issue to get a contract for their man

Ryan Bennett as well! I didn't know that. (looked up his wiki page and you are spot on). You could almost build a decent team from the players we have released who have gone on to be good footballers
Someone get a grip!

Whittonboy. Those players you've mentioned were released by the managers of the time. A completely different situation to this. This is , like several others, a case of the club not being able to do anything about it. If a club want him, and he wants to go, he can go. Offering a contract isnt gonna make him stay, if hes offered more elsewhere. And
unfortunately, kids nowadays are swayed more by money, than what's best for their career.

Going to be hard to retain talented players when there are 50 professionals at the club as can't give them opportunities

Yes, money talks. But it's not as simple as that. I would imagine players have a will of their oen so it's not as easy as to ”get the cheque book out”.
Still, have to find a way to keep our youngsters until we get loads of money for them.

Can we stop this with a jab?
