Lincoln, Portsmouth and Hearts Latest Clubs Linked With Bishop
Tuesday, 6th Jul 2021 15:18

Lincoln City, Portsmouth and Hearts are the latest clubs to be linked with Blues midfielder Teddy Bishop.

The 24-year-old was among the players told he could find a new club at the end of last season and is currently training with the U23s.

As previously reported, Bishop’s hometown club Cambridge United were keen to take him to the Abbey Stadium but it’s understood wages were a big obstacle preventing that move from happening.

TWTD revealed a fortnight ago that the MK Dons' interest in the academy product was well progressed.

However, according to the EADT, the Dons need to move players on before they can make the addition with Lincoln City now said to be leading the chase.

Portsmouth are also reported to be keen, but in a similar position to MK, although with a potential swap switch involving Blues target Michael Jacobs mooted.

Town have held talks with the 29-year-old winger and a deal seems not unlikely once the former Derby man has fully recovered from the knee surgery he underwent towards the end of last season.

Scottish Premiership Hearts are also reported to be keen on Bishop, whose appearances during 2020/21 triggered a one-year option on his Town deal.

Swap deal works for me with Jacobs. We have not forked out a fee for Bishop so this works well.

Wouldn't want a swap deal for Jacobs, injury record is poor and has never really stringed together a run of games, Lincoln would be a good move for him however

Personally. Bishop is one of the remaining exiles I would keep as I think he is capable of stepping up a level with the right players around him. If he goes I'll be disappointed but wish him well of course.

I believe the problem with Bishop is he goes missing in games and is one of the players who could not train two days running. Given the high press game Cook plays it is less about his undoubted ability and more about him not fitting in with the system Cook plays.

I wish him well and it is a great shame with all the injuries he has had that he never progressed from the play off season team.

i'm really , really pleased for the boy, but tbh I didn't want this one to go, but it is what it is .

However I'm a little confused as to why , given the queue of Clubs after Bish, why there isn't a queue of clubs being reportedly after Downes?

I'm a fan of bishops and would keep him. Last season was the first for a while he was relatively injury free. You need to see him as a 21 year old developmentwise given the football he missed with injury.

Well he's not a boy anymore. His true ability will show elsewhere. Sometimes it's just not meant to be

A fit Bishop plays in the Championship in my opinion. But the fitness is the problem...

Mediocre, "Jacobs injury record is poor and he's never strung together a run of games".
Sounds like a fair swap then.

He had a lot of promise in his breakthrough season but he's way too injury prone and just doesn't contribute enough goals or assists for the position he plays in. 5 goals in 6 years is nowhere near good enough for an attacking midfielder. He's had enough opportunities

Only capable of playing 45 minutes out of 90 minutes because of his fitness issues means he's not good enough for a team that wants to get promoted. Wouldn't swap him for Jacob's either another injury risk.

I feel some people are being very rose tinted when it comes to certain academy lads.
He was great when he came through.
Since then he's been a disappointment in terms of injury record and to be honest the overall quality he has shown.
If we are gonna give a midfielder a chance this year who's been up and down it would be Nolan for me.
Think he offers much more.

The reference to wages is interesting.

Perhaps under former ownership/managers we have been overpaying?

If he trains well with the 23's and shows a better attitude and fitness there is every chance he will stay. If not no great loss and easily replaced.

Attitude is the new buzzword. Mentioned by someone for all departing players.

Nothing wrong with attitude. Cook just doesn't rate him, or will not suit new style of football so he will be off.

Not every player who leaves has an attitude

why isn't there a queue of clubs interested in Michael Jacobs?

oh yeh, he's another aging injured footballer without a home

shocking level of fitness explains the injuries and poor performances.

that's one thing cook found out immediately

who knows where bishop can end up with a proper fitness programme and coaching

I like Teddy. When fit and in form, easily good enough for Championship. Unfortunately the 2 rarely go hand in hand. Good luck to him and wish him all the best, but we need players who are actually going to play most weeks.

Living in the midlands, as I do, I don't have my "finger on the pulse" as, I guess many of this site's contributors do, but surely getting rid of so many youngsters is not good. We have been "burnt" in the past - Marriot, Webster, Walters, Moore, Lawrence, etc., - perhaps the coach could have spent a season trying to develop some of these outgoing players before offloading them.

Another overrated sicknote. Good Riddance.

Bishop has enough talent to play comfortably in the Championship and he proved that with us. He's far better when surrounded by players on his wavelength and who can do the ball winning. He showed glimpses of his ability at the start of the season but then started going missing for along periods. He could still be a big success with us but I'm afraid that's down to him and how hungry he is for success. A swop deal with Jacobs would be crackers. He's injury prone and less of a talent that Edwards. We have to aim higher than him if we want promotion. We don't want another season of excuses. Fans have bought tickets and now it's time for PC and his team to start their work. The goal is promotion and anything less will be huge failure with such investment
