Chaplin Wins PFA Gong For Second Month
Friday, 14th Oct 2022 12:51

Blues forward Conor Chaplin has been named the League One PFA Vertu Motors Fans' Player of the Month in League One for September, having also won the award in August.

Chaplin netted three goals in the month to take his tally for the campaign to six, while he has also claimed two assists.

The 25-year-old is one of two players to collect back-to-back PFA gongs along with Manchester City's Erling Haaland at Premier League level.

Also nominated in League One were ex-Blues striker Ellis Harrison (Port Vale), Jevani Brown (Exeter City), Devante Cole (Barnsley), Anis Mehmeti (Wycombe Wanderers) and Morgan Whittaker (Plymouth Argyle).

Chaplin, who was presented with his trophy by Colin Hill, now a commercial director for the PFA having represented Arsenal, Colchester, Leicester and other clubs in an 18-year playing career, told the club site: “It's pleasing to receive votes again and I appreciate the support.”

“The goals don't come from one person so it's important that the team is recognised. I've probably scored one goal that was just 'me' this season and that was the free-kick against Barnsley. All of the others come from the team working together.

“Fingers crossed I can keep contributing and helping the team. We're all looking forward to Lincoln this weekend, so we'll give it everything to put in a good performance and get three points in front of our fans.”

The thing I like most about Connor is not what he does on the pitch (and he is clearly a great player), but how he conducts himself off it.

The respect he gave those Pompey fans at Portman road, you have to love him for it. Just seems like a proper decent bloke.

Agreed Pennblue. Seems like a great guy to have around and could easily step up to the Championship when we get promoted.

Thoroughly deserved, well done Chappers!

Yes much improved player from last season where he was in and out of the team. Added consistency to his game tended to give the ball away at times last season. Not sure if he's championship standard time will tell but very popular with the fans.

I don't think he's been good enough to win it twice. But it suggests any player nominated will win the vote.
