Dyer Joins Chesterfield Staff
Sunday, 25th Jun 2023 19:08

Former Town midfielder and academy coach Kieron Dyer has formally joined the coaching staff at ex-Blues boss Paul Cook’s Chesterfield.

Dyer, 44, began working alongside Cook with the Spireites in March in a consultancy role as they reached the National League play-off final in which they were beaten by Notts County on penalties, but has now officially become a member of staff.

“I came in for the last two months of the season just to give the lads a different voice,” the ex-England international told the Chesterfield club site.

“It seemed to go really well, but I have unfinished business. I think all the staff have unfinished business, as do the players. I’m really excited for the coming season.”

Cook added: “I feel that the addition of Kieron will help us both at the top level and also on the training ground.

“He’s a real watcher of the game who loves working with players individually and collectively.”

Ex-Town winger and coach Gary Roberts is also on Cook’s staff, while Armando Dobra and Bailey Clements joined the Derbyshire side last summer following their Town exits.

It does seem as if KD has an issue with the current itfc direction?? Maybe he got too used to ME's austerity measures which meant youngsters would be pushed through earlier? Coybs

Great as a player, but for whatever reason he has lost his way. Best that he moves on in my opinion.

I can see it from his point of view as well. A local lad who has done an awful lot for the club over the years. We shouldn't forget it was Dyer who put his hand in his own pocket at times to help the academy when Evans wouldn't. He's probably a bit bitter that the new owners came in and overlooked him for other roles, especially when McGreal was given the caretaker job.

Not saying Dyer was ready for that or that it's not right that we've all moved on but he must feel a bit put out. Either way I hope he goes on to do something in management and gets an opportunity somewhere. Really good bloke who is often misrepresented in hearsay.

The first thing I think about when I hear about KD is that I hope that he has a positive resolution for his health issues, then after that. I hope he can get things straight in his head and we can at least heal the rift he has with the club. I'd love for him to come back, but he's proven himself to be a bit too emotional, which under his circumstances I totally understand.

Effectively got Robson the sack at Newcastke. First class k**b in my view. How someone who fights with his own teammates during a game can seriously be a coach is beyond me. Great player for Town but that was a long time ago. Good luck at Chesterfield but wouldn't want him anywhere near our coaching setup. Probably why there were few tears when he threw his toys out and left.

Despite the emotional attachment as a player, which I understand, if KD was a high quality coach and potential manager, why hasn't someone snapped him up at a higher level? I wish him well but when he left my instincts told me his opinion of himself was out of line with his true value

Sheez, give the guy a break. He is a town fan through and through, got blue blood running through his veins. He was a great player for us and we made a lot of money out of him. He has been seriously unwell the past 2 years, what is the matter with some of you? If he has has a vent about stuff and you don't agree with it, then I think he deserves to be cut some slack, he has not been a well man.

Still sulking because he didn't get the Ipswich job. Has never really grown up and cannot see him being totally in charge of any club. Still rate him along with Kevin Beattie the best young player we have produced .

As a player could be fantastic at times. As a man, well, he can get a bit carried away at times too. Not sure he will ever be management material, but as a coach the youngsters at Chesterfield could learn a lot.

There used to be a time where released ITFC players automatically moved to Colchester, but now it seems they have a choice to make. It's the future.

Couldn't care less about him to be honest. Showed his true colours last year in my opinion.

So many uncharitable responses here. He's an ex Ipswich player and coach who did his best for the club and left under a cloud. Let's be happy for him he's got a permanent position even with the serious medical issues he has.
You only have to look at all the other coaching departures, including the latest, that there's no loyalty from our new management set up. When you get told to go and are replaced by people who toe the line that's not healthy.

Good Luck Kieron, good to see you back in the Game full time.
Best Wishes for Success along with Cookie at Chesterfield - a really great little Club, that deserve to be back in the Football League very soon.
An excellent choice for any ITFC Fan as their Second Club, in a lovely part of the Country, with a nice Modern Stadium.

He struck me as misguided in his flounce with town. Proved their point on why they didn't give him the role he wanted.
With his background of success at a young age and abuse, he needs a strong trusted advisor/mentor/father figure in his life to help him mature and make wise decisions and it doesn't seem like he has. Wish him all the best at Chesterfield and hope he can heal his relationship with ITFC one day.

Good luck to him but don't think there was or should have been a place for him at ITFC. I don't see he has the integrity to be part of it & is probably far better for him to be with Cook.
