Blues Launch TownTV and App
Friday, 21st Jul 2023 17:01

The Blues have launched their new TownTV service and official app.

TownTV, which the club are producing in partnership with QTV, an award-winning production company, replaces the EFL’s iFollow through which the club has provided its video services for many years.

TownTV will feature behind-the-scenes footage, extended features and highlights for £5.99 a month.

From the game against Stoke City at Portman Road on Saturday 12 August, both home and away fixtures will be presented from the new TownTV studio which has been built in the old gym at Portman Road over the summer.

Midweek matches not selected for live broadcast in the UK will be available to watch at an additional cost of £10.

Fans who sign up to TownTV prior to 28 July will be able to watch that day’s two 60-minute friendlies at the Innsbruck Cup in Austria against Bundesliga sides RB Leipzig and Werder Bremen at no additional cost.

The two games at Tivoli Stadium will be broadcast live on TownTV with multi-camera coverage, dedicated commentary and live pitchside presentation with James Tzanoudakis and Matt Holland.

Blues legend Holland and lifelong Town fan Tzanoudakis, who previously featured on iFollow as well as having worked for Bein Sports, ESPN, Eurosport and Netflix, and early in his career BBC Radio Suffolk, are among TownTV’s hosts, along with James Kirtland, a former Soccer AM presenter nown as 'Curly'.

Former Town players will give their expert analysis in punditry roles throughout the season, while Alfie Indra, who was involved with the Town media team last season, will be involved, focusing on the FanZone on a matchday.

ITFC Women’s all-time top scorer Natasha Thomas will also be working with the TownTV team, providing tactical analysis and progress updates on the Tractor Girls.

Omari Hutchinson’s first interview since signing on a season-long loan from Chelsea yesterday is currently available on TownTV along with more than an hour of behind-the-scenes footage and interviews from the pre-season trip to Austria.

International fans, those outside of the UK and the Republic of Ireland, can subscribe to TownTV for £19.99 a month.

Overseas supporters will be able to watch all of the Town’s games not selected for live broadcast in the UK.

The new app, which is available on available on iOS and Android, features news, live scores and exclusive videos, as well as giving access to the club’s online shop and ticketing.

£40 membership + £60 TV sub = £100 just for the 'opportunity' to queue or buy a TV game

Sigh indeed.

Ifollow was £140 a year for overseas fans for the season pass. TownTV at £20 a month works out at £240 for the year, so that’s a fair hike. Hope the content is nearly twice as good too! Also hoping they release an app for smartTVs, as connecting the laptop via HDMI was always a bit of an annoyance.

As a Canadian based fan I have just bitten the bullet and paid 19.99 and tried to watch the Hutchinson interview..but no joy

It's annoying that they went with a monthly fee. I just want to pay for the season. It's a way to eeek out every penny from us.
I really don't need anything aside from the matches for my international subscription.

I get "This tablet is not compatible with this app"!

Just to be clear, can you purchase the £10 per match on a match by match basis ( as on ifollow ) without paying the £5.99 package.

What I don't understand is why are Town penalizing International FANS who are expected to pay over 3x the price of a UK subscription. Very disappointed.

BTW, I get that that international subscription includes matches, but if you are not in a position to watch a match you still get to pay the full fee. Need to have an international subscription with same coverage as UK

3.3 times more expensive for international fans? Screw that... This is twice as expensive as iFollow. Not pleased with this at all.

It's not Towntv though is it? It's Town mobile/tablet. I want an app for the smart TV without having to spend hours trying to put it up on a big screen, then some of the HDMI cables aren't compatible with paid content. I'm sick of peering at football on small screens. So, it a no from me and l was very interested before expecting to get the app on TV.

Very disappointing for us International fans... And on top of that, if the game is live on sky, we pay the full monthly subscription with no possibility to see the game.
And why no yearly subscription ?
International fans have not been considered... Their pockets have !
Very upset.

I guess I’ll just watch a stream on the Firestick & Kodi then!

Am l right in thinking l could watch all Town home games on this? Bit disappointed l can't have it on my big screen TV also. Desperate to watch Town this season as l have a disability that prevents me attending PR

I always use the opponents I follow you, got to put up with the biased commentary, but the streaming always seems a lot better

I don't understand the mega difference in price between UK and international fans. If someone could offer a reason I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, I am lead to believe the club is trying to earn on international fans lack of options to watch games, which is really poor.

Seems a bit of a hike for us living in other countries to watch all the games. I can also see us missing out more matches as sky will want to show more of our games if we are doing well.

I never found a problem watching games on my big screen tv, use any normal HDMI cable and run it from your lap top to the TV.

I will still prob get it so can get up and watch games at stupid O clock.

So last season I had ALL the iFollow channels included with my IPTV package (not to mention Sky and BT Sports) for £20 a month! nonetheless I was considering signing up to support and pay ITFC. Not so sure now I know I am to be "penalized" for living abroad even thou I retain Season Tickets!

If I am reading the details on the official website properly, it appears that the international subscribers are getting a better deal than the UK ones. For 19.99 a month you are getting live coverage of every match included, except where we are shown live - at 40+ games for £200 (10 months subs) that's £5 per game. UK price of £5.99 does NOT include ANY live coverage, so we would still have to pay £10 extra for every game we watch !!

itfcserbia added 19:44 - Jul 21
SuffolkPunch, that's £10 for midweek games not selected for live broadcast in the UK. Although not the greatest and clearest descriptions about all this.

For example international subscription states "Access to live pre-match shows, live video streaming of non-broadcast selected games, audio commentary..." - can this be read as "selected non-broadcast games" instead of "all non-broadcast games"?

illegal stream it is then, want to try and mug off the international fans = international fans will mug you off instead

I am completely p!$$ed off with this. I was fully intending on signing up for Town TV and looking forward to what it might offer but not at those prices.
I'm just hoping that Radio Suffolk still have commentary rights otherwise I have to follow away games on CeeFax

As an international fan I will be paying more money but appears to be a better service than ifollow with the extra bits, I do not feel I am being 'mugged off' by the club, compared to live game costs it's a steal. At the end of the day I want to watch Town and I am relieved I can still do so still under the new scheme. No complaints from me,

I have been priced me out of the market also. I could justify the iFollow international subscription because it was more or less in line with the local TV channel showing premier league games. But this is too much. Highlights on YouTube for me from now on.
