Morsy Nominated For Player of the Month
Thursday, 7th Sep 2023 06:00

Town skipper Sam Morsy has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award for August.

Morsy is on a shortlist alongside Norwich City’s Gabriel Sara, Ozan Tufan from Hull City and Stoke’s City’s Andre Vidigal.

The Blues captain enjoyed an impressive August as Town won four of their five league fixtures to end the month second in the table on their return to the Championship and as a result was recalled to the Egypt squad five years after his most recent cap.

The judges for the gong are Sky Sports’ Don Goodman, EFL chief executive Trevor Birch and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.

Surprisingly, manager Kieran McKenna is not among those nominated for the Manager of the Month award.

John Eustace, Birmingham City, Preston North End’s Ryan Lowe, Enzo Maresca from Leicester City and Norwich City’s David Wagner are on the shortlist. Both award winners will be announced on Friday.

How did they overlook KM? I mean, it’s a bit obvious he has had a fabulous month…..but the Nobwich manager after losing against Rotherham gets nominated.

Can’t make it out.

As much as pains me to point it out, Nodge were unbeaten in August, we weren't.

Yer, they’ve had their “best stat to a season for 35 years” apparently…… but we’re still above them in the league having played against arguably much better sides!

Always I’m our shadow……

Give the 'curse' to Wagner.

Seems "odd" to overlook KM, all things considered.
Missing out for KM could end up being the driving force for him & the team.
I don't think KM is actually bothered in the slightest by missing out though, but his players & us fans might dig in deeper for him.

Great to see Sam finally getting some recognition for his performances (International call up too). It makes you realise how lucky we are to have had him drop down to League One for two seasons.

Good luck to Morsy and a strange omission for McKenna. Surprised Jon Rowe didn't make the shortlist for them having scored in every game in August.

Morsy wont win it - not with Don Goodman on the judging panel - he hates Ipswich!

Not sold on the jury, quantity and quality.

Seems odd on McKenna. But for August Saturdays result wouldn't count so it's based on 3 wins and a loss and 6th place with that I guess. Makes slightly more sense but harsh.
