Bologna Reportedly Agree Ioannidis Terms
Tuesday, 18th Jun 2024 13:12

Italian side Bologna have reportedly agreed terms with apparent Blues target Fotis Ioannidis.

Over the weekend, the Greek media revealed that Town had made a €22 million (£18.6 million) offer for the 24-year-old Panathinaikos striker, a bid which had been turned down by the Athens club.

Now, according to the Corriere Dello Sport, Bologna, fifth in Serie A last season, have agreed personal terms with the Greece international.

It’s reported that Bologna’s sporting director Marco Di Vaio and technical director Giovanni Sartori have negotiated a deal with Ioannidis’s agent Andres Niniadis, who had previously spent time at the club last week, regarding a four-year contract with an option for a fifth season.

No fee has yet been agreed with Panathinaikos, who are are understood to want €25 million (£21.1 million) for last season’s 23-goal frontman, although are keen to keep hold of him and have been in talks regarding a new deal.

Meanwhile, a report in A Bola in Portugal, where Sporting CP previously made an €18 million offer for Ioannidis, claims to outline the details of Town’s offer, which was apparently turned down due to being based on top-up clauses rather than straight cash.

It’s said that proposed deal was an initial €17.5 million (£14.8 million) plus a further €4.5 million (£3.8 million) in bonuses should they be triggered later on down the line.

Why? Why would he choose Bologna over Ipswich?

Nice just to be to be mentioned to be competing with the likes of Sporting Lisbon and Bologna for international players. Beats Tony Dining

Could be a problem for Town if players feel they could be playing Championship football next season

They will have to sell the dream or like Sir Bobby fly them over the stadium with the players on the pitch waving at them.

Assuming details of our offer are true we might need to change our strategy a bit.

We are now part of the richest league in the world. Any club we try to do business with are going to want full value for their player and are unlikely to want top up clauses, which they may or may not get depending on how we perform. We are going to be amongst the favourites to be relegated, like it or not, which could work against us.

We seem to have successfully negotiated top up clauses in the past but we are fishing in a whole different pond now. Players of the quality we need could be hard to get.

Would not be disappointed to miss out on him, of 23 goals last season, 9 from penalty spot & only 16 goals from open play in last two seasons in Greek football, hardly prolific!

Yawn yawn, here we go again. Im sticking with my #wakemewhenheshere mantra, pictured with Mark Ashton and wearing our kit, only then will I get too excited although it's interesting to be quoted with that sort of cash.
Phil's article carefully references the sources being other media and therefore it's as reliable as a deal with Del Trotter. Alright Dave?

George Hirst isn't exactly prolific, but his physique & general play has been perfect for bringing out the best in the players around him & style of play favoured by KMcK.
Just judging from the clips I've seen of this guy, I got a similar vibe. I think he'd chip in with his fair share, but the goals will come from everywhere.

I think the deal is up the Greek. I think McKenna will be keeping a close eye on the Euros the only problem is they might start the season a bit fatigued.

Karlosfandangel. Dont think luton had any problem signing players with the thought they may begin the championship the following season. Why should we?

Ahh, Tony Dinning, all misty-eyed now, I doubt anyone will ever fill those shorts.

Not too worried, I think we might have come a cropperolis with this signing anyway...

Any of these Georgian players available per chance?

MK1 added 18:50 - Jun 18
There will be others. If he doesn't want to come here, then he ain't welcome anyway.

FreddySteady added 19:01 - Jun 18
Maybe we should cast our eyes over some of the supposed lesser teams at the Euros? Georgia, Slovakia etc

If he doesn't sign for us, he's lost his marbles.

this is gonna be a tough window I'm hoping we get the right targets that could help us stay in this league we want players that's gonna help in the foundation and do the things the club want we probably have targets as long as our arms but it's getting the right people in

itfc2024 added 20:48 - Jun 18
blues1 Luton got average championship players in that in the end didn't achieve their goals I'm hoping we get better players that can achieve what us as a club want

Sounds like a bunch of Bologna

@RegencyBlue the vast majority of transfers in to Premier League clubs that involve a fee also involve add-on clauses (e.g. fee after avoiding relegation, fee after x apps, x goals etc.). It's just that in this particular case the Ipswich bid was not deemed to be enough, and some other club was offering more, it would seem.
