Philogene and Town 'In Advanced Talks' Thursday, 4th Jul 2024 16:28 Hull City winger Jaden Philogene is reportedly in advanced talks with the Blues and keen to make the move to Portman Road.
The 22-year-old former England U21 international is one half of a £35 million joint-bid Town have made for Tigers pair Philogene and centre-half Jacob Greaves.
According to BBC Sport, the Blues are hopeful of signing Philogene, who joined Hull from Aston Villa a year ago, with talks at an advanced stage.
Earlier today, it emerged that a proposed switch to Barcelona is now unlikely to happen due to complications.
Hull owner Acun Illicali is reported to have confirmed that the interest from the Catalan giants was real but the player believes a move to Town would be the best option currently. It’s understood the Barcelona deal was set to be a loan with cash later on down the line rather than an up front fee.
Londoner Philogene, who has two years left on his Hull contract with the club having an option for a further season, joined Villa’s academy from the Pro:Direct Academy and spent spells on loan with Stoke and Cardiff City prior to making his £5 million switch to the MKM Stadium a year ago.
As well as the Blues and Barca, Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham United are also believed to be keen and Villa are understood to have the option of a buy-back.

Would be fantastic if we can get this deal over line, considering Crystal Palace are serious rivals for his signature and according to team, have spoken to his agents. West Ham,Tottenham and Manchester Utd are all supposedly keen, according to team talk. Fingers crossed we seal the deal, with Greaves to hopefully follow.

Of the two players in question, this lad is by far the most important for me. We may well get Greaves, and great if we do, but if not then there will be other options. I'm not so sure there are many other options for Philogene. He seems like just the kind of talent we want and that Kieran can develop further. Not counting any chickens yet, but definitely all fingers crossed.

That repeated fact that Bobby Robson kept turning down Barcelona to stay at Ipswich seemed long in the history and cultural memory of this club, I never thought I'd see the day that we were even again on the same news item let alone that in any way we would be competing, even if just for a transfer and not for the trophies.

Apparently his agent was pictured outside offices at F.C Barvelona although the club hadn't heard of Philogene. The loan interest may have just been a stunt...who knows but a return ryan air flight may have just put millions on the purchase price!!!

Greaves probably holding out for other bids

Really hope this gets over line. Philogene is an exiting player with potential to improve. I was hoping he was a player we would look at (also Simms of Coventry). Lian Rosenier departure from Hull made player exits more likely. Hull fans must be pulling their hair out.

Europablue so you’d rather he’d stayed than who we have now?? The past is the past but as much as I loved mick when he came in we had already started going further down the table with him anyway before being relegated. The biggest issue was Marcus Evan’s at the time he didn’t want to invest and charged us 2 mill a season interest on HIS debt. If kick have still carried on we’d have been bottom half championship and look where we are now. Things happen for a reason and I was sick and tired of waiting till 80 mins for a shot on target at home under mick as were the majority. As we say it’s gone now but I for one am glad he went as it lead to this.

Regarding these two I’d be happy with both and the fee is about right for the inflated prices these days. The fact Barca have an interest in taking him on loan next season shows what a talent this lad is and can only see McKenna making him better. As for greaves we need a pacey ball playing centre half which he is and in the team of the season as well as being recognised by his fans and piers sounds all good to me!

I guess Villa's buy-back-option will be terminated if he leaves Hull?

I think the team will be improved no doubt with the links of certain players etc but I really do hope we go for 1 or 2 real Premier league experienced players in midfield and up top similar to the impact Barkley played at Luton but im sure keiran will have us competing and attacking the league just think we will need that experience that's all

I think a lot of people building up philogene too much..yes he's a technically good player but when he was with Cardiff for over 34 games ..he only scored 3 goals..yes 23/24 season he has goy 12 and a few assists ..but have we not got a few players that have scored that amount too and not valued at 15 million or more ?..I know the only factor that is making him more attractive and valuable is being very young. But many a young player has set a season on fire and following Yr to be a damp squib...I value jaden between 10 and 15..no more..

Sweet dreams are made of this! Quality signing if this happens! If we sign these 2 at the reported fee, is that most of our budget gone? And the comment "Be careful what you wish for" doesn't even begin to cover it. Personally I wished to see my team play football, what we had under McCarthy was Anti-football and I truly hated it! I remember speaking to an ex player, who would leave early every week, because he also hated it! Now you can say McCarthy's hands were tied, but his philosophy is keep it tight, dont concede and lets see if we can nick it late on, if he had a budget he would have bought better players for that! Whilst it's all in the past we should remember just how bad it was and needed to get worse for us to become the team that Gamechanger would want to invest in! We need to enjoy the here and now that's for sure!

Having said that, I think I would be right in saying, the mighty Ipswich would be the first team to give the England side 3 managers!!

How I dislike this quiet bit between the negotiations and actually signing.

@Help: I suspect that if anyone signs today, it will be kept under wraps until tomorrow's kit launch. Not that that's stopping me from checking every now and again!

@Denny32, I think you are overlooking the very clear impact (and significant added value) that KM's coaching and man-management can have on a young player (cf. Omari).
