Philogene 'Set to Rejoin Villa' Friday, 12th Jul 2024 15:53 Hull City winger Jaden Philogene is now reportedly set to rejoin his former club Aston Villa.
The Blues had agreed a joint-deal for Philogene and teammate Jacob Greaves with the Philogene side of the deal understood to be worth £18 million of an overall initial fee of £35-£40 million with the players understood to have accepted personal terms at Portman Road.
Villa, who sold the England U21 international to the Tigers last summer, had 72 hours in which to exercise matching rights, which they did on Wednesday.
And now, according to The Mirror and other sources, Villa boss Unai Emery has given the green light to complete a move for the 22-year-old.
The fee is understood to be £13 million with Villa having had a 30 per cent sell-on from the deal done last summer. The player is set to sign a five-year contract.
Philogene is currently with Hull at a training camp in Türkiye but is expected at Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training centre next week.
Town are close to announcing the additions of Greaves, in a £15 million plus £3 million in add-ons deal, and Manchester City striker Liam Delap, whose initial fee is also understood to be £15 million plus a further £5 million.

Spend the money at Brighton on Sarmiento & Rushworth instead.

I seem to recall he chose Hull over us last year, that worked out well for him. We move on

Weird, so both now valued at 28 million, yet we were paying 35 million in a double deal,

Not sure why so many are making a big deal out of this one. Lad has chosen an established Premier League team who he is already familiar with. Good luck to him. Onto the next one. This won't be the last transfer of the summer we miss out of I'm sure! Plenty more wingers available. Greaves far more important IMHO

Some ofcthe comments on here make me laugh. Why people feel the need to have a go at him I don't know. Had villa not come in for him, hed almost certainly have come here. Must be tempting for him to go back there as likely has unfinished business there. And must have been given some assurances about game time, as it was reported he'd only go back if assured of getting games. It's a shame, but good luck to the lad. Sure we'll have alternatives in mind. We move on

Sad really he'll not just be in Turkey he'll be sitting on the bench like a Turkey

Go get Asprilla from Watford, just as good and probably half the price.

Well they didn’t want you last year, they probably won’t you next year, good advice is never go back only go forward. When your form peaks off through not playing and the splinters from all the bench warming hurt your arse you’ll start regretting that move. Still if you do make a place in their team I’m sure you’ll get a warm reception here at PR.

Think Broadhead would have a thing or two to say about Philogene being the nailed on number one

Odd one for villa. Sell him for 5 million then buy him back for 13 million. Not great economics in any bodies eyes.

If we think he's good enough, we should put in an increased offer by £1m. If Hull agree, we get our player for a little more, if jot we just drive the price up for Villa. Win win either way.

Lots to be discovered yet : and what if ITFC up their bid — are Hull interested ? or are they into playing games ?AND where does the player stand ,what is his viewpoint and why turn aside Town and great coaching ? It’s a very very odd set of affairs ! COYB

I say raise the offer by a mill or two to make AVFC have to pay more money.

I thought Philogene's priority was game time? If he does go back to Villa, looks like he's either gone for the money instead, or Villa haven't been straight with him, or he's been very badly advised. Still, he'll have plenty of time whilst warming their bench to search for a new agent who isn't a greedy, self-serving, time-wasting wind-up-merchant that doesn't care a jot about his client.

Quite glad as I don’t think he’s the answer (though obviously I’m likely to be proved wrong). Dad prefer Sarmiento as an option for that money. Phylogenetic a bit of a show pony without the other qualities of Hutchinson or Sarmiento. Ryan Kent an option too?

Looks like Villa have the option contractually and have chosen to take it, shame because the lad quite clearly wants to be here and appears to have no say in it

If he didn't want to buy into the clubs plan, so wasn't fussed if he'd be here, then we shouldn't want him. Sometimes these things happen for a reason. Lets get a midfielder, a striker and a GK and move on to Liverpool. COYB

Now the smokescreen is out the way, announce Summerville as our new left winger!

I'm so glad he's not joining us. His agent is a prick and the player doesn't want to play for us. Glad we didn't throw money at him. Now let's sign a goalkeeper please!

Jesus christ the bed wetting on here. They guy has every right to sign for whoever he wants to.
Cervantes added 16:44 - Jul 12
It's a shame he's not coming, as he's a quality player with tons of potential. A bigger shame is the time and energy that we've wasted over this. I never wish a player ill but I find his decision a little strange. He must have been promised some significant game time, plus the allure of European football. I'm sure we'll have a plan B.
Positive_Vibes added 16:45 - Jul 12
This comes as no surprise. He’s been waiting for Villa all along. Hope we have some alternatives in the wings. I would quite like Morgan Whittaker. I know he doesn’t have Prem experience but I think he could be developed. Not sure who else is available, that fits our mold. Onwards and upwards COYB!
