Silva: Davis Should Have Been Sent Off Sunday, 5th Jan 2025 20:49 Fulham boss Marco Silva blasted referee Darren Bond for failing to red card Blues full-back Leif Davis during the first half of this afternoon’s 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage.
In the 27th minute Davis, who later conceded the second penalty from which the Whites snatched their point, ran across to halt Harry Wilson’s progress as the Wales international threatened to break through behind the Blues’ backline. Referee Bond showed a yellow card.
The home support chanted their dissatisfaction with the referee as he left the field at the end and Silva could see their point.
“I’m on the same page as the Fulham fans,” Silva said. “They go in the same direction and it was a difficult afternoon for the ref and was hard to explain some decisions.
“It’s a clear red card. We cannot control it. The performance from the referee was not at the level the Premier League demands, in my opinion.
“When [Wilson] touched the ball he was going one on one with the goalkeeper. It’s difficult to understand.
“It was something I can’t control but I don’t want to get in trouble so it’s better to stop in this moment.”
The Portuguese head coach was frustrated by his team’s overall display but still felt they deserved to take all three points.
“We have to be disappointed with our performance, definitely,” he insisted. “It was a very good first 30 minutes. We were the team in control and we had two or three clear chances to score, one with Raul [Jimenez], which was a great save from the goalkeeper.
“We didn’t give up many chances for them. With [Liam] Delap and [Sammie] Szmodics, they have players on the attacking line who are quick and can create moments around the box, but the reality is that before 1-0, they didn’t.
“We lost control of the game when we went behind 1-0. We were too soft with the way we defended that moment. It’s a mistake from us and they scored.
“The fighting spirit was there. Even in difficult circumstances with some decisions going against us, they showed the character.
“If somebody has to win the game, it should be ourselves. We created more chances, we were more on the front foot and we did everything apart from score more goals than Ipswich, so we have to be disappointed to not win the game.”
Jimenez’s goals were his 54th and 55th in the Premier League, making him the highest-scoring Mexican in English top-flight history ahead of former Manchester United and West Ham forward Chicharito.
“It’s an incredible achievement,” Silva added. “I’m really pleased for him because we all know he had a really bad moment [with his head injury], not just in his career but in his life. He was really down when we signed him, but we showed trust in him and it’s paying off.
“The first two or three months at the club, he was not scoring and everyone was asking why we took the decision to bring him into the football club. We kept trusting him, he kept working really hard and it’s so nice to see him achieve an incredible number.
“It’s an honour for him to achieve these numbers and he will be in Premier League history for many, many years. Let’s hope there’s much more to come from him and I’m here to help him.
“It’s not just the goals today. The way he won fouls, the way he was always there to help the team. We changed his position in the second half and he did really well. Let’s hope he can get even more confidence in the future.”

Whiny little child Marco. You were given the lions share of decisions and are having a tantrum because town were a posts width to putting it out of sight. Davis wasnt sent off because the ball was rolling through to Walton. Not every foul (penalty or not) is a booking

“The way he won fouls…” Seriously? Is that what he is assessing players on? I’d be looking out for every leg stretched out and taking theatrical diving lessons!!!!

I watched this game on Tv. During the moments when Fulham were second best to Town, the camera zoomed in on this guy who was nearly in tears. He was remonstrating with his staff in his dugout like a kid who’d lost his sweets. I just wished someone had handed him a box of tissues, a real cry baby. The bottom line here is, yes Fulham had the lions share of possession, but we managed this game very well. We defended well, broke through them when the opportunity arose, and quite frankly, should have scored more. He fails to mention that their keeper had to pull off a couple of saves to keep them in the match, and of course how lucky they were when Clarke rattled their keepers post. I’m disappointed because in my opinion, we gave away two silly penalties, had it not been for that, he’d be crying all the way home with nothing. The referee only issued Davis with a yellow because he genuinely went for the ball, he just mistimed the tackle.

This guy spends most matches "losing it" on the touchline..amazed he doesn't pick up more yellows/reds...like a big cry baby. Could learn a thing or two from KM on how to conduct himself.

Lets be honest, it probably was a red card. But dont mind getting away with one. Just hope the defense and midfield learn to track players a little more effectively at times. The risk wont pay off next time. If its one on one you just have to get as close as you can and hope the keeper saves it.

Prebbs007. If Davis had been sent off, which I don't think we could have argued with, I dont think they'd have needed that penalty to win the game. So,that's irrelevant really.

If you say so blues1 but it’s factual nevertheless. And every pundit both on tv and in print disagrees with you.

The covering defender was coming across, so I don't think that was a red. The ref made some baffling decisions, but he got the two penalty decisions right and the one he missed, he used VAR to make the correct decision. Ipswich dealt with every cross into the box, and Fulham kept on doing the same thing. The Town players were winning every 50/50 in the first half. We didn't create that much, but we were playing to counter. I'm a bit confused why Silva made a half time sub. I assumed it was because KM set the team up very well and Fulham were struggling to deal with us in the midfield. Jimenez fouled his man to get that shot on goal, but Walton made a great save. All in all, it was a poor performance from Fulham and we let them back into the match twice, the second penalty being a very unnecessary challenge. I thought we'd being doing much better not to make rash challenges when there was no danger.

Silva spent the whole game berating the 4th official, then was in the refs ear in the tunnel before 2nd half. He's just trying to cheat a result rather than concentrating on his own players. Knob. And no way was it a red card, we had defencive cover.

Maybe, maybe not but it was not the outcome so get over it. More alarming and unpunished was your own aggressive attitude throughout and Harry Wilson on initially not being given the first penalty. Clearly your aggression goes onto the field. Poor role model displaying poor behaviours in our game.

Never a sending off not only had he lost control of the ball with a heavy touch the centre half was coming over to cover

My brother in law is a rugby man. He says that the behaviour of managers and players in the PL puts him off the game. He admires KMc for the way he conducts himself and can see how that is reflected in the players. I don’t remember our team behaving badly since he arrived.

Stop your cry baby tears, and realise how lucky you were to come away with something from the game. Yes you had the possession stats before Szmods goal, but what did you do with it? Your two goals? Both from penalties and a gifts from us, because you couldn't create any clear cut chances yourselves. Best chances of the game from open play? All ours.... Szmods goal, Broadhead's shot and Clarke's that hit the post. Another manager spitting out his dummy when little Ipswich ruffle their feathers.

Davis being booked only was just about the right decision. I hate this sense of entitlement from some managers towards us, if you are going to beat us they need to score more than us and they didnt, they needed 2 pens gifted to them! Speaking of which, what the hell was that from Morsey? deliberate and cynical, type of tackle you make in midfield when you are outnumbered and need to put a stop to things! A poor decision from our captain! Still i would have taken a point at the start, but conceding that late takes away something from which is a very good point! !0 days now tp rest up, get some (more) new signings in and some of the injured back!

Why is some abuse more punishable that others? players and staff can abuse refs with vile language and get away with it, doesnt happen in rugby. Did that Lukic even get booked, he was at it(fouling) all game.
