Chelsea Fined For Town Penalty Protests
Tuesday, 21st Jan 2025 12:08

Chelsea have been fined £40,000 by the FA for surrounding the referee following the award of Town’s penalty in the Blues’ 2-0 victory at Portman Road last month.

The West Londoners’ players protested furiously with John Brooks after the spot-kick was awarded for Filip Jorgensen’s foul on Liam Delap in the 10th minute, which the striker scored, VAR having upheld the initial decision.

Chelsea admitted the charge and the fine was imposed by an independent regulatory commission.

'it failed to ensure that its players did not behave in an improper manner'. That written English makes my head spin, still not convinced it makes sense.

Agree with you 100% Jugsy. It makes my head hurt! Although coming from the FA perhaps it isn’t all that surprising that it doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense lol.

That’ll learn em. Let’s hope they don’t have to file for bankruptcy. That well known sub that falls over all the time Dewsbury-Fall is paid £80k a week. There are 17 players paid more than him.

So a fine of £40k for Chelsea FC is basically a joke. Why bother?

On watching the incident back on TV,I don't think it was a penalty, the Chelsea defender barely touched Delap and he took a dive, however it was nice to see some luck on our side for a change.

Perhaps they should also get fined for play acting. I seem to remember every time one of their players was touched above the ankle they went down holding their head.shocking how many of their players were abusing a system that was put in place to protect them. Im sure at some point it will cost someone dearly because an official somewhere will think someone is trying to take advantage of the rule when they are actually injured and will get ignored.

The lack of any substantial fine and and a lengthy ban for violent assault is what Wolves and their player should have received. The Chelsea incident was pretty tame in comparison.

Jugsy, I agree. It's a bit convoluted. I think they mean, "failed to ensure it's players behaved in a proper manner," which might have been a bit easier to understand. Agree the fine is fairly ludicrous given the level of money awash in the PL.

GForce. Tge defender didn't touch him at all. It was the goalkeeper who tripped him. Even Maresca said je,accepted it was a penalty, and that his players said it was soft. So they accepted it was a penalty, bit still surrounded the ref.

I don't even recall that being bad? Certainly not as bas as the Fulham players surrounding the ref before VAR got involved for their first pen. Not to mention Harry Wilson calling the ref something quite unsavoury!

40k fine to Chelsea is an absolutely pointless waste of time.
