Tuanzebe Linked With Trabzonspor Monday, 16th Jun 2025 10:07 Out-of-contract Town defender Axel Tuanzebe is being linked with a move to Trabzonspor in the Turkish media.
According to widespread reports, Fatih Tekke, head coach of Trabzonspor, is targeting Tuanzebe and Slavia Prague’s Christos Zafeiris.
The 27-year-old was previously interesting the Süper Lig side in the summer of 2022 while with Manchester United.
Town have been in talks with Tuanzebe regarding new terms for some while with his current deal up at the end of the month.
The DR Congo international has been a key man in the Blues side over the last couple of seasons after joining following his release by the Red Devils and his departure would be a blow, especially with Cameron Burgess, Town’s other senior player out of contract this summer, having already moved on to Swansea City.
While Turkish media reports are often not overly reliable, it would be a surprise if Tuanzebe hasn’t had interest from other clubs at home and abroad having been one of the Blues’ best performers in the Premier League despite his campaign being hampered by injuries.

McKenna makes me laugh, not. He says how much he wants Axel to stay and is a good player etc etc, but this club has clearly not made him a new contract offer worthy of a signature from the player. He's 37yrs old fashioned, in his prine, and he'll walk away free just like Burgess. I'm not impressed by our transfer dealings thus far .... "only a couple likely to leave".... in yer dreams!

Found his feet and confidence again at ITFC ,largely thanks to belief in and from KM. He will be very aware of the ‘short’ active career prospects and therefore keen to add comfort and protection for the future by capitalising now ! A talent undoubtedly ,but M A & KM have a team to redevelop and a business plan which will be unaffected by emotion ; renewal of vigour and personnel is part of the game ,and we shall likely see more departures ahead ! Would have hoped for a little bit of loyalty bearing in mind we gave him a contract whilst injured so that he could prove himself. Guess it all depends on how much money and length of contract offered. Excellent player when not injured. If he goes, we move on. That's football at our level.

Would be disappointing to see him leave, but not a surprise. You’d have thought if he was staying the deal would have been sorted a long time ago. The question, is who are we bringing in to replace the many departures? You would think we need additions sooner rather than later with the championship season starting early August. Burgess, Delap, Harness, Luongo already gone. Axel to potentially follow. Four loanees as well.

Doesn’t seem that there’s anything that resembles loyalty in the game these days. McKenna gambled and took Axel after he was pushed out of the door by Manure, came here with a very questionable back injury and got him fit so I thought he would have given a new contract the thumbs up after a season plagued by one injury or another. Going to be another big loss after Cam if he goes.

blueboy81, I guess you, like me, will wait and see where the " adequate " replacements are coming from. Somethingthing I do know for sure, we have to know if a player is leaving before he can be replaced. Personally, and it is of course a personal opinion, not an actual fact, I've not been as convinced by AT as many seem to have been, and that's without considering his injury record. Which actually disappointed me a bit, as I was quite impressed with one or two of his appearances when at Man Utd. Maybe the start, stop nature of his injury worries haven't helped, and that's a worry in itself. Can't agree with you on the safety of KM. I'll bet if after around 10 games or so, we are not around where the powers that be think we should be in the league table, he'll be feeling a little hot under the collar! It's clear your not a great fan of KM, fair enough, you're as entitled to your opinion as anyone, including me. I have been and still am, but I too will be keeping a very close eye on proceedings, he still has some credit in the bank with me, but that doesn't last beyond next season. As far as I'm concerned, failure to get promoted straight back to the PL, will be just that, " failure ". Far bigger than the season just gone.

The best defender we have in my opinion. So, all of our best players are leaving for either pittance or on free transfers. If we get promoted again, we have to spend another £100-200 million on building a team and wait until Xmas for them to gel, by which time we'll be as good as relegated. Is it me, or does it feel like we are going around in circles? If we can't keep our best players, then this is what is going to happen. Although this article is currently a rumour, the fact many of our players seemingly WANT to leave says a lot for their belief in what is going on (and what is likely to happen) at Portman Road in the near future, and that is extremely worrying.

People keep assuming that because a player doesn't renew their contract that something is rotten with the club. It could be as simple as wanting a new challenge. Seeing a different city. Wanting to meet new people. Better money. The same reasons we all look for new jobs. Some people don't like sitting still for too long.

Those saying we wouldn’t have offered Cam a 3 year deal. Why not? He’s 29! Not 59! He’d be at his peak at the end of a 3 year deal, most centre backs are in their prime early 30’s Same with Tuenzabe - I get that it’s a difficult thing to process, but we have deep pockets (relative to where we usually are financially) so it’s VERY clear they don’t want to be part of the Ashton/Mckenna project. Cameron hasn’t left for money, or financials, he’s gone to okay and be valued and appreciated by his manager. T is leaving because yes he can play at a higher level, for sure, but if he thought we’d bounce back, and he’d be in the premier league next season, he’d potentially stay. A lot of players clearly don’t see themselves progressing. Greaves, Clarke, Johnson, Muric, it’s a long list if players who have gone massively backwards. McKenna hasn’t for the best from then, hasn’t improved them, and has a huge rebuild now, all of his own making. Ruud isn’t a good manger, had 3 seconds with his team, and achieved far more. KM has had years coaching the group, achieved miracles with the legacy group for 12 months, but spent a fortune to go backwards. And both this summer and last, he’s spent more time worrying about speaking to other clubs!!!! The gas lighting if some fans is staggering. It’s like an abusive g/f they can’t let go of!! It’s clear he’s speaking to Brentford - the Andrews deal would take three seconds otherwise. They just can’t afford his alleged £5 million salary, which says it all. It’s time he showed more respect to the fans that have given him nothing but love and support.

Can't we start learning from these foreign clubs and get players from abroad. If Trabzonspor can target Tuanzebe we can start looking players from the Turkish League etc. instead of fishing from the lower leagues for perm signings and hoping some Prem clubs can loan us more youngsters!
Phil1969 added 22:36 - Jun 16
Sign the offer, like Burges wrong end of career 2026/7 won’t be a Prem player maybe we won’t be a Prem club. Whatever. Injuries don’t help.

Yes Axel is a good defender but I see him more as a back three type defender than a pushing forward fullback. Maybe that is not what McK wants for his team, who knows ?

Best 1v1 defender we have. Miles better than Clarke or Johnson. Has had a few injuries although the hand one was a bit unfortunate. First choice starter for me with Clarke as back up.
Len_Brennan added 06:33 - Jun 17
We don't need to keep Axel for a season playing in the Championship, because we'll still have enough good centre halves & right backs to be a promotion winning side without him, even before we sign someone new. Why we do need to keep Axel now, is so we still have him if/when we achieve that promotion & come back into the Premier League with a genuine PL class defender already in the squad, rather than having to spend £20m+ on someone that is likely to be a gamble, like how Greaves was in tbe season just gone. A 2 year deal, with an option of an extra year, would do nicely.

widj123, you've made 22 posts since joining and NOT ONE of them has been positive. Not a single one of them. You're either a troll, a budgie, or a plastic fan. Feel free to find a club you do want to support. Your banter is tiring.

he's just too low for the speedy wing backs of the Premiership, and his constantly having to run flat out the whole game contributed to the injuries,
