Town Make New Cajuste Approach - Report
Monday, 7th Jul 2025 21:45

Town are reported to have made a new approach to Napoli regarding former loanee Jens Cajuste.

TWTD revealed just over a week ago that Besiktas were in pole position to sign the 25-year-old with a loan deal subsequently agreed between the Serie A champions and Istanbul side and reports over the weekend indicating that the Sweden international was set to travel for a medical.

However, it emerged this morning that despite terms having been agreed between the clubs - an initial loan fee of €1 million (£863,000) with a €6.5 million (£5.6 million) buy option - the claims of an imminent medical were premature.

According to some sources in Italy, Cajuste himself is the reason for the move stalling with the player still to OK the switch and taking his time before he makes a decision.

Meanwhile, Football Italia is reporting that Town made a new approach today for the Gothenburg-born midfielder.

Cajuste enjoyed a successful loan spell with Town in 2024/25 and it’s no secret that manager Kieran McKenna would like him to return, although the Blues boss admitted at the end of the season that “there’s probably a lot to do for that to happen”.

Italian sides Udinese and Fiorentina are also among those understood to have shown interest, while French clubs and Premier League sides Aston Villa, Burnley and Crystal Palace were linked, although some of those speculatively.

Sevilla in Spain are also among the clubs claimed to be interested with one report suggesting Napoli have offered him as part of a deal for 21-year-old Spain U23 international winger Juanlu.

Cajuste, who has three years left on his contract, isn’t in Napoli head coach Antonio Conte’s plans.

The former Reims man made 26 starts and seven sub appearances for the Blues during 2024/25, scoring once, and was beaten to the Supporters Player of the Year award by Liam Delap by only 36 votes.

If we were to get him ahead of the clubs mentioned then it would be some coup.... Come on Jens, we love you!!

So to all of those saying there's no chance of him coming back, and id begun to think it unlikely, here u go. Seems Cajuste doesn't exactly seem keen on Besiktas, so maybe, just maybe, there is a chance we could get him.

His agent is playing us big time. It is quite clear that nobody wants to sign him as he has obvious injury issues. He performed well here when fit but rarely completed a full game. The Championship involves playing more games which he’s unlikely to cope with. If he was so fantastic lots of clubs would have an interest but they haven’t. We should move on or this could be another poor acquisition

£863,000 with a £5.6 million buy option is a lot cheaper than the reported £1.3m loan fee with £10m buy option a year ago. His transfer value seems to be falling so maybe we can afford him, depending on wages. I would only want a deal at a sensible price.

He would be a significant cut above the championship level technically. He plays like he has a lot of time on the ball, and would only have more in the champ. Amazing if we can get this done, I just felt it wasn't quite over yet.

But, we definitely need another in midfield even with Humphreys back. We need to replace Phillips and luongo and need a long term Morsy replacement. So, an additional fit CM who can play 46 games is a must

So you're telling me there's a chance?

Still seems like an unlikely deal to get done, we do have a fair chunk of credit for ffp but will probably need about 3 or 4 more so we have to be careful. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love him to come back but just controlling my expectations.

Even if you don't think we should sign him, which btw baffles me he would be a fantastic signing - not going for him makes no business sense. 26 year old international, 12m euro valuation on transfermarkt which notoriously downplays player valuations. So thats over £10m and from the sounds of it we could get him for £6m, it is such an obvious signing to make. He would be brilliant in the Champ, I have everything crossed hoping we get him!

Stop giving me hope! If we bring him in AND keep Hutch... we're winning the league. Might be asking one miracle too many there.

Maybe we’re struggling with other targets. Would he cope with a full Championship season?

Fingers crossed for this, I'd heard a while ago that he was very keen to stay but that Napoli were looking for more money than we were prepared to offer. Seems like the Fabrizio may have done us a favour bu leaking these details out early and making it easier for us to get something in place with Napoli. Early talk was them wanting a big up front fee.
But is he comes, he won't be the main MF purchase, we need someone robust enough to take the strain from Sam M, thats a fairly unanimous view judging by previous comments

i have a feeling that Jens really want to be here. But of course there are other factors, like agents, etc. And I can also understand the financial and ambitional aspects, a players career is fairly short.

He seems to be a well rounded human being would it be a luxury buy perhaps unable to play two games a week as required in the championship i e a lame duck or is there some benefit I cannot see............

I'd prefer us to sign a player that is not injury prone and can regularly complete 90 minute games, one after another and not need constant treatment and rest. Championship is tough. For me Cajuste has not proved his body is up to it, but I don't doubt his quality.

Tedray. His role won't be workhorse thats for sure, but we saw at PL level how his ability to turn and accelerate can unlock even decent PL midfield players. With another more defensively minded player to add, I think our CMF, with Morsy, Taylor and Humpheys to make up a core of 5, will be strong enough.
